Myrtle L. Peterman
Myrtle Louise Peterman, 72, of 214 Garlinger Ave., Apt. 10, Hagerstown, and formerly of Mt. Briar, Md., died Saturday, Oct. 9, 1999, at Washington County Hospital.
Born Jan. 28, 1927, in Mt. Briar, she was the daughter of the late Roy Sylvester and Emma Grace Orcutt Griffith.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Lloyd Jake Peterman, in 1979.
She was a homemaker.
She was the last of her immediate family.
She was preceded in death by one sister, Gladys Griffith and three brothers, Melvin Griffith, Herman Griffith and Martin Griffith.
Funeral services will be held Tuesday at 2:30 p.m. at Bast Funeral Home, 7606 Old National Pike, Boonsboro. The Rev. Odell Stone will officiate. Burial will be in Mountain View Cemetery, Sharpsburg.
There will be no viewing or visitation, however, the family will receive friends Tuesday one hour prior to the services at the funeral home.
Carlton L. Rhoads
Carlton Lamar Rhoads, 91, of 1016 Brinker Drive, Hagerstown, died Friday, Oct. 8, 1999, at Washington County Hospital.
Born March 4, 1908, in Shamokin, Pa., he was the son of the late Harvey Hensell and Elizabeth Susan Reed Rhoads.
He was preceded in death by his first wife, Hannah Marie Baker Rhoads, and his second wife, Doris Mae Rhoads.
He attended Staunton Military Academy.
He was owner and operator, with his first wife, of Sterling Jewelers in Shamokin and then Baker's Jewelry Store in Hagerstown.
He was a member of John Wesley United Methodist Church.
He was a charter member of Exchange Club in Hagerstown.
He is survived by a daughter, Kay Browne of Jackson, Miss.; a son, Frank Rhoads of Sharpsburg; two stepsons, Van Showe of Hagerstown and Randall Showe of Arizona; a sister, Hazel Clark of Florida; six grandchildren; and seven great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by a sister, Eva Hutchenson.
A graveside service will be held Monday at 1 p.m. at Rose Hill Cemetery, 600 S. Potomac St., Hagerstown. The Rev. Ken Harris will officiate.
Friends may call today from 6 to 9 p.m. at Minnich Funeral Home, 415 E. Wilson Blvd., Hagerstown.
Thurman L. Smith
Thurman Lee Smith, 65, of 11 W. Baltimore St., Hagerstown, died Saturday, Oct. 9, 1999, at Washington County Hospital.
Born June 15, 1934, in Mount Lena, Md., he was the son of Louella Jane Bowman Smith of Hagerstown and the late Raymond Lee Smith.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Gerry Ann Smith, in 1998.
He was a former employee of Potomac Dye and Printing and The Stationery House, both of Hagerstown.
He was a Little League manager for National Little League for 30 years.
In addition to his mother, he is survived by two daughters, Louann M. Ewanick of Boonsboro and Melissa K. Crabtree of Hagerstown; a son, Robin L. Smith of Fredericksburg, Va.; a brother, Omer Eugene Smith of Palm Cove, Fla.; and nine grandchildren.
A service will be held Wednesday at 11 a.m. at Douglas A. Fiery Funeral Home, 1331 Eastern Blvd. North, Hagerstown. Pastor Robert V. Robinson will officiate. Burial will be in Mount Zion cemetery in San Mar, Md.
The family will receive friends Tuesday from 2 to 4 p.m. and 7 to 9 p.m. at the funeral home.
Marie E. Springer
CLEAR SPRING - Marie Elizabeth Springer, 87, of 13205 Independence Road, died Friday, Oct. 8, 1999, at Avalon Manor Nursing Home.
Born July 12, 1912, in Charles Town, W.Va., she was the daughter of the late William and Ella Milburn Willis.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Edward Charles Springer Sr., in 1978.
Previously, she was employed by Dorbee Manufacturer and Ross Garment Company.
She was a member of International Ladies Garment Workers.
She is survived by two daughters, Mary Ella Hawbaker of Mercersburg, Pa., and Shirley Ann Howell of Shepherdstown, W.Va.; three sons, Edward Charles Springer Jr. of Berkeley Springs, W.Va., Carroll Lee Springer of Hagerstown and Robert Alan Springer of Clear Spring; 13 grandchildren; and 15 great-grandchildren.
A service will be held Tuesday at 11 a.m. at Minnich Funeral Home, 415 E. Wilson Blvd., Hagerstown. The Rev. Ernest Thompson will officiate. Burial will be in Cedar Lawn Memorial Park.
The family will receive friends Monday from 7 to 9 p.m. at the funeral home.
Howard C. Tedrick
Howard Cornell Tedrick, 75, of 15507 National Pike, Hagerstown, died Friday, Oct. 8, 1999, at his home.
Born Nov. 27, 1923, in Big Pool, he was the son of the late Howard Irwin and Lillian Rebecca Gearhart Tedrick.
He retired from Floyd R. Kline Roofing and Siding Contracting Co. of Hagerstown.
He was a veteran of World War II, serving in the U.S. Air Force in the South Pacific.
He was a lifetime member of St. Paul's United Methodist Church of Big Pool, where he served as treasurer of the trustees and was on the choir.
He was a member of Joseph C. Herbert American Legion Post No. 222 of Clear Spring; United Ostomy Association; AARP; Antique Car Club; and Loyal Order of the Moose.
He is survived by his wife of 50 years, Genevieve Shaw Tedrick of Hagerstown; a daughter, Deborah Tedrick Hall of Willards, Md.; a son, Dennis Cornell Tedrick of Clear Spring; a sister, Vivian Tedrick McKee of Hancock; two brothers, Donald L. Tedrick of Clear Spring and Maurice Elwin Tedrick of Hagerstown; four grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by a sister, Justa E. Martin.
A service will be held Monday at 11 a.m. at St. Paul's United Methodist Church in Big Pool. The Rev. Dennis Whitmore will officiate. Burial will be in Shanktown cemetery in Big Pool.
The family will receive friends today from 7 to 9 p.m. at Donald Edwin Thompson Funeral Home, 13607 National Pike, Clear Spring, and Monday one hour prior to the service at the church. For the convenience of friends, the funeral home will be open today from noon to 9 p.m.

Anna B. Gardner
Anna Belle Gardner, 85, of 1120 Kenly Ave., Hagerstown, died Friday, Oct. 8, 1999, at her home.
Born March 7, 1914, in Alexandria, Va., she was the daughter of the late Lee Smith and Annie Belle Lloyd Crockett.
She was preceded in death by her first husband, George C. Deihr, and her second husband, James Gardner.
She was a former employee of Safeway in Alexandria.
She was of the Protestant faith.
She is survived by two daughters, Barbara A. Brown of Hagerstown and Patricia A. Layton of Orlando, Fla.; three sisters, Doris King of Puntagorda, Fla., Betty Meehan of Silver Spring, Md. and Evelyn Kenna of Frederick, Md.; five grandchildren; and eight great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by two brothers, James Crockett and Lee Smith Crockett Jr.; and a grandson.
A service will be held today at 1 p.m. at Douglas A. Fiery Funeral Home, 1331 Eastern Blvd. North, Hagerstown. The Rev. Joseph M. Quesenberry will officiate.
Burial will be Sunday at 10:30 a.m. at National Memorial Park in Alexandria, Va.
The family will receive friends today one hour prior to the service at the funeral home.
