John J. Voss
John Joseph Voss, 74, of 19 Moller Parkway, died Wednesday, Oct. 6, 1999, at his home.
Born Nov. 25, 1924, in Okarche, Okla., he was the son of Lavena E. Sweitzer Voss of Oklahoma City and the late John C. Voss.
He owned and operated Jones Valley Oil Co. for 25 years.
A veteran of the U.S. Army, he served during World War II and the Korean War.
He was a member of St. Ann's Catholic Church.
He was a member of Washington County Chapter Isaac Walton League of America, Morris Frock Post 42 American Legion and B.P.O. Elks Lodge 378.
In addition to his mother, he is survived by his wife, Jane Catherine Voss; two daughters, Catherine S. Hendrix of Statesboro, Ga., and Barbara J. Dieterle of Hagerstown; five grandchildren; and one great-grandson.
He was preceded in death by one sister, Dorothy Hopper.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated Monday at 10 a.m. at St. Ann's Church, 1525 Oak Hill Ave., Hagerstown. The Rev. Andrew S. Mohl will be celebrant. Burial will be in Rest Haven Cemetery, Hagerstown.
The family will receive friends Sunday from 7 to 9 p.m. at Douglas A. Fiery Funeral Home, 1331 Eastern Blvd. North, Hagerstown, with prayers at 7 p.m.
Lester S. Itnyre
Lester Stoner Itnyre, 86, of 17920 Garden Lane, Apartment 1, Hagerstown, died Wednesday, Oct. 6, 1999, at his home.
Born May 22, 1913, in Funkstown, he was the son of the late Benjamin Franklin and Edna Dean Stoner Itnyre.
He retired from Pangborn Corp.; and had been employed by Fairchild Industries.
He was a member of Church of the Holy Trinity.
He was a member of BPO Elks 378 in Hagerstown.
He is survived by his wife, Pearl Herr Itnyre; one daughter, Judith A. Barnhart of Hagerstown; one son, Gregory L. Itnyre of Hanover, Md.; two grandchildren, and one great-grandchild.
He was preceded in death by a half-brother, Lauren Stoner.
Services will be Saturday at 1 p.m. at Minnich Funeral Home, 415 E. Wilson Blvd., Hagerstown. The Rev. R. Rice will officiate. Burial will be in Rest Haven Cemetery.
The family will receive friends at the funeral home Friday from 7 to 9 p.m., with an Elks Memorial Service at 7 p.m.

Thomas L. Rogers
KEEDYSVILLE - Thomas Lee Rogers, 38, of 3150 Hawks Hill Lane, died Saturday, Sept. 18, 1999, at Washington County Hospital.
Born Nov. 19, 1960, in Charles Town, W.Va., he was the son of the late William Benjamin and Gladys Ruth Darr Rogers.
He was formerly employed by CSX Transportation in Brunswick, Md.
He was a member of Ocean Rovers Scuba Diving Club in Frederick, Md.
He is survived by his fiancee, Laura M. Trainor; a sister, Ramona Linton of Newport News, Va.; a half-sister, Susan Winters of Shepherdstown, W.Va.; and a brother, William Rogers of Harpers Ferry, W.Va.
He was preceded in death by his maternal grandmother, Mary Darr.
A memorial service will be held Saturday at 2 p.m. at 3150 Hawks Hill Lane, Keedysville.
Arrangements are by Bast Funeral Home in Boonsboro.
Austin E. Cartee
SPOKANE, Wash. - Austin E. Cartee, 70, of Spokane, and formerly of Myersville, Md., died Wednesday, Oct. 6, 1999, at the Veterans Administration Hospital in Spokane.
Born Aug. 6, 1929, in Ellerton, Md., he was the son of the late Grayson F. and Nellie M. Bussard Cartee.
He is survived by two daughters, Karen Lewis of Myersville, and Darla Benedum of Sharpsburg; three sisters, Betty Jane Brandenburg of Myersville, Florence Ropp of Middletown, Md., and Ruth Kenbig of Greencastle, Pa.; one brother, Charles Cartee of Union Bridge, Md.; three grandchildren; nieces and nephews.
A memorial service will be held at the convenience of the family at Arlington National Cemetery, Arlington, Va.
lLela I. Hamby
Lela Irene Hamby, 89, of 15628 National Pike, Hagerstown, died Wednesday, Oct. 6, 1999, at Homewood Nursing Center in Williamsport.
Born Oct. 5, 1910, in Hagerstown, she was the daughter of the late Albert E. and Sarah J. Hose Bartles.
She was a vendor at Hagerstown City Market for 12 years, retiring in 1975.
She was a member of Broadfording Bible Brethren Church, and taught Sunday school.
She was a member of Jolly Sixties.
She is survived by four daughters, Lela M. Hendershot and Anna I. Snook, both of Clear Spring, Mary J. Hoffman of Hagerstown and Carolyn J. Shockey of Mercersburg, Pa.; two sons, Kenneth E. Hamby and Albert H. Hamby, both of Hagerstown; 17 grandchildren, and 23 great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by a son, David L. Hamby; five sisters, Lydia G. Sprankle, Martha E. Mowen, Mary M. Shank, Helen V. Bartles and Sarah V. Stottlemyer; and four brothers, Lewis H. Bartles, Albert E. Bartles, Charles C. Bartles and S. Herman Bartles.
Services will be Saturday at 11 a.m. at Broadfording Bible Brethren Church in Hagerstown. The Rev. William H. Freed Jr. will officiate. Burial will be in Broadfording Church cemetery in Hagerstown.
Visitation will be at Douglas A. Fiery Funeral Home, 1331 Eastern Blvd., Hagerstown, Friday from 7 to 9 p.m., and one hour prior to the service at the church.

Laura V. Cox
WILLIAMSPORT - Laura Virginia Cox, 90, of 16505 Virginia Ave., died Wednesday, Oct. 6, 1999, at her home.
Born June 20, 1909, in Baltimore, she was the daughter of the late Elisha Cox and Ethel Estelle Wonderly Taylor.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Rodney Vernon Cox Sr., in 1983.
She is survived by a daughter, Carolyn C. Talley of Williamsport; a son, Rodney V. Cox Jr. of Troy, Ala.; six grandchildren; and a great-grandchild.
A memorial service will be held Monday at 10 a.m. at Homewood Retirement Center, 16505 Virginia Ave., Willliamsport. The Rev. Lucinda Cox Valenti will officiate.
A graveside service will be Monday at 2 p.m. at Fort Lincoln cemetery in Brentwood, Md. The Rev. Lucinda Cox Valenti will officiate.
There will be no viewing.
