Frank W. Shank
FUNKSTOWN - Frank W. Oscar Shank, 64, of 4 W. Maple St., died Tuesday, Oct. 5, 1999, at his home.
Born Dec. 17, 1934, in Hagerstown, he was the son of the late Frank Woodrow Shank and Mary Elizabeth Harper Shank Ayres.
He was a 1952 graduate of Hagerstown High School.
He was employed by Potomac Edison Co., retiring in 1994.
He served in the U.S. Army.
He was a member of St. Paul's Lutheran Church in Funkstown.
He was a member and past commander of Dixon Troxell Post No. 211 American Legion and a past Washington County commander, past Western Maryland District commander, member of the Department of Maryland Executive Committee and Department of Maryland Baseball Committee; a member of AMVETS Post No. 10; Williamsport Redmen; Funkstown Moose Lodge 2435; BPO Elks No. 378; North American Rod and Gun Club; a member of Goodwill Athletic Club; Eagles Club of Waynesboro; an umpire and past president of National Little League.
He is survived by his wife of 29 years, Patsy Melzer Shank; a daughter, Marsha Hershman of Frederick, Md.; twin grandsons, Mark Hershman and Matthew Hershman, both of Hagerstown; and an aunt.
Services will be Friday at 10 a.m. at Minnich Funeral Home, 415 E. Wilson Blvd., Hagerstown. The Rev. Darrell L. Layman will officiate. Burial will be in Rose Hill cemetery with military honors by American Legion Morris Frock Post No. 42.
The family will receive friends today from 7 to 9 p.m. at the funeral home.

Lena M. Garver
Lena Mae Garver, 80, of 12 S. Walnut St., Hagerstown, died Wednesday, Oct. 6, 1999, at Washington County Hospital.
Born Aug. 31, 1919, in Shady Grove, Pa., she was the daughter of the late John W. and Margaret Ruth Miner Smith.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Carl J. Garver, in 1984.
She was employed by the Washington County Board of Education at the Washington Street School; and with Roessner's Plant during World War II.
She was a member of Mount Zion United Methodist Church in Myersville, Md.
She is survived by a daughter, Sonja M. Heck of Middletown, Md.; two grandsons, Michael A. Heck of Myersville and Shawn D. Heck of Frederick, Md.; and four great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by a son, Carl Allen Garver.
Services will be Saturday at 11:30 a.m. at Minnich Funeral Home, 415 E. Wilson Blvd., Hagerstown. The Rev. Norman Kemmerer will officiate. Burial will be in Ringgold Cemetery, Ringgold.
The family will receive friends Friday from 7 to 9 p.m. at the funeral home.

Donald C. Purdham
FREDERICK, Md. - Donald Clinton Purdham, 78, of 40 N. Pendleton Court, died Tuesday at Frederick Memorial Hospital.
Born Aug. 6, 1921, in Brunswick, Md., he was the son of the late Claud and Virgie Younkins Purdham.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Jane Nelson Purdham, in 1995.
He was a 1939 graduate of Brunswick High School.
He was employed by the federal government in the Veteran's Administration and the Department of the Army, retiring in 1971.
He served in the U.S. Army during World War II in the South Pacific, the Philippines and Japan.
He was a member of St. John's Catholic Church in Frederick.
He was a member of VFW Post 10421 in Brunswick; Chapter 356 AARP in Frederick; Chapter 409 National Association of Retired Federal Employees in Frederick; Loyal Order of the Moose Lodge 1508 and Steadman-Keenan Post No. 96, both in Brunswick.
He volunteered for the American Red Cross Blood Program from 1976 to 1991 and provided transportation to patients for medical treatment. He volunteered with the Internal Revenue Service.
He is survived by a son, Kenneth N. Purdham of Frederick; and cousins.
A Funeral Mass will be celebrated Friday at 10 a.m. at St. Mary's Catholic Church in Brunswick. The Rev. Wayne Funk will be celebrant. Burial will be in St. Mary's Cemetery.
Friends may call today from 2 to 4 p.m. and 7 to 9 p.m. at John T. Williams Funeral Home, 100 Petersville Road in Brunswick. The funeral home will be open today from 1 p.m.

Scott E. Morris
WEST PALM BEACH, Fla. - Scott E. Morris, 31, of West Palm Beach, and formerly of Hagerstown, died Monday, Oct. 4, 1999.
He was the son of Nancy E. Morris of West Palm Beach and the late Larry E. Morris.
In addition to his mother, he is survived by a son, Scott M. Morris of Hagerstown; two sisters, Tammy Morris of Palm Beach Gardens, Fla. and Angel Morris Mills of Hagerstown; his grandmother, Catherine A. Mattingly of Takoma Park, Md.; two aunts; an uncle; three nephews; and his girlfriend, Deborah Sandy of Hagerstown.
A memorial service will be Friday at 7 p.m. at Del Lago Funeral Home, 131 S. Lakeside Drive, Lake Worth, FL 33460.
Catherine L. Stahl
WILLIAMSPORT - Catherine L. Stahl, 94, of 16505 Virginia Ave., and formerly of 702 W. Franklin St., Hagerstown, died Tuesday, Oct. 5, 1999, at Washington County Hospital.
Born Sept. 19, 1905, near Reid, Md., she was the daughter of the late David Emmert and Della May Spessard Hager.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Harvey L. Stahl, in 1990.
She and her husband owned and operated Stahl's Grocery Store.
She was a member of Otterbein United Methodist Church since 1921.
She is survived by a daughter, Lois A. Lumm of Hagerstown; and three granddaughters.
She was preceded in death by a sister, O. Ruth Hager.
A private graveside service will be held at Rest Haven Cemetery. The Rev. Stephen D. Robison will officiate.
There will be no viewing.

Sheila E. Barthlow
REHOBOTH BEACH, Del. - Sheila E. Barthlow, 60, of Rehoboth Beach, and formerly of Hagerstown, died Monday, Oct. 4, 1999, at her home.
Born Jan. 11, 1939, in Hagerstown, she was the daughter of the late Mervil L. and Elizabeth F. Hoffman Price.
She was a 1957 graduate of Hagerstown High School; and a graduate of Delaware Technical and Community College.
She was employed in the Rehoboth Beach area.
She was of the Catholic faith.
She is survived by a daughter, Shelly Barthlow of Concord, N.H.; two sons, Grayson Barthlow of Rehoboth Beach and Brian Barthlow of Granby, Mass.; four brothers, Mel Price and Larry I. Price, both of Hagerstown, Gary M. Price Sr. of Fairplay and James F. Price of Leesburg, Va.; three grandchildren; nieces and nephews.
A graveside service will be Saturday at 11 a.m. at Rose Hill cemetery in Hagerstown. The Rev. John Koontz Jr. will officiate.
The family will receive friends Saturday at 10:45 at the cemetery.
A private family viewing will be held today from 3 to 5 p.m. at Parsell's Funeral Home in Rehoboth Beach.
