Connie Y. Otto
HUMBLE, Texas - Connie Yvonne Otto, 46, of Humble, died Tuesday, Sept. 28, 1999.
She was born Feb. 7, 1953, in Medford, Ore.
She is survived by her husband, Kirk T. Otto; one daughter, Jessica Otto of Humble; one son, Jonathan Otto of Humble; one sister, Charlene Marbury of Dayton, Ohio; two brothers, Arthur Pressnall of Palm Springs, Calif., and Larry Erickson of Los Angeles; and one granddaughter.
Services were held Saturday at Rosewood Funeral Home in Humble. Burial was in Rosewood Memorial Park cemetery in Humble.
Betty J. Bair
WILLIAMSPORT - Betty June Bair, 76, of Clear Spring Road, died Monday, Oct. 4, 1999, at her home.
Born Dec. 13, 1922, in Washington, D.C., she was the daughter of the late Clarence and Sue Wiley Rhodes.
She was preceded in death by her husband, William Edward Bair, in 1995.
She was employed by Maryland Ribbon; and was a homemaker.
She was a member of Virginia Avenue Church of God.
She is survived by three daughters, Patsy Palmer, Diana Hammond and Judy Spigler, all of Williamsport; one son, Robert Bair of Hagerstown; one brother, Ellis Rhodes of Sharpsburg; 15 grandchildren, 21 great-grandchildren, and nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by a daughter, Kathy Kreps; and 14 brothers and sisters.
Services will be Thursday at 11 a.m. at Osborne Funeral Home, 425 S. Conococheague St., Williamsport. The Rev. A. Paul Harne will officiate. Burial will be in Cedar Lawn Memorial Park, Williamsport.
The family will receive friends Wednesday from 7 to 9 p.m. at the funeral home, which will be open after 9 a.m.

D. Roscoe Shifler
BOONSBORO - D. Roscoe Shifler, 90, of 20 Mountain View Drive, and formerly of 109 Lakin Ave., died Sunday, Oct. 3, 1999, at Washington County Hospital.
Born Feb. 16, 1909, in Mount Carmel, he was the son of the late Walter and Alice Miller Shifler.
He was formerly employed by Charlie Pound Bakery in Boonsboro, Manbeck Bread Co. in Hagerstown; and retired from Fort Detrick in Frederick, Md.
A veteran of the U.S. Army, he served during World War II. He participated in D-Day Plus 1 and the Battle of the Bulge, where he was awarded the Purple Heart.
He was a member of Trinity Reformed United Church of Christ in Boonsboro.
He is survived by his wife, Mary L. Reeder Shifler, whom he married
in 1934; one daughter, M. Sandra Shifler of Parkville, Md.; nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by one sister, Mary Shifler; and two brothers, Earl Shifler and John Shifler.
Services will be Wednesday at 10:30 a.m. at Bast Funeral Home, 7606 Old National Pike, Boonsboro. The Revs. Kathleen Hoover and Louis R. Emerick will officiate. Burial will be in Boonsboro Cemetery.
The family will receive friends at the funeral home today from 7 to 9 p.m.

Larry R. McAfee
FOXVILLE - Larry Ray "Scooter" McAfee, 52, of John Draper Road, died Saturday, Oct. 2, 1999. at Washington County Hospital. after a long battle with cancer.
Born March 28, 1947. in Hagerstown, he was the son of William R. and Caroline C. Toms McAfee of Foxville.
He was employed with Redland Genstar of Frederick, Md.
He was a veteran of the U.S. Army.
He was a baptized member of Mt. Bethel United Methodist Church, Foxville.
He was a member of Harmony Hunting Club.
In addition to his parents, he is survived by his wife of 26 years, Lorraine Ropp McAfee; two daughters, Toni M. McAfee of Myersville, Md., and Jamie D. McAfee of Middletown, N.Y.; one sister, Sharon Kline of Smithsburg; two uncles and several nieces, nephews and cousins.
Funeral services will be held Tuesday at 3 p.m. at Davis Funeral Home, Smithsburg. The Rev. William C. Kercheval and the Rev. Donald L. Turley will officiate. Burial will be in Mt. Bethel Cemetery, Foxville.
The family will receive friends this evening from 7 to 9 at the funeral home.
Grace I. Byrd
WILLIAMSPORT - Grace I. Byrd, 82 of 16505 Virginia Ave., died Saturday, Oct. 2, 1999, at Homewood Retirement Center, Williamsport.
Born Oct. 7, 1916, in Morris, Ala., she was the daughter of the late John W. and Malvina Thornhill Roberts.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Isaac E. Byrd, who died in 1982.
She retired in 1973 from the Government Accounting Office, Washington, D.C., as an auditor after 33 years of service.
She was a member of the Unitarian Church, Hagerstown.
She was a volunteer with Washington County Chapter of the American Red Cross, a member of the Women's Club and she was a former member of Order of Eastern Star, Washington, D.C.
She is survived by two daughters, Juanita M. Peachey of Belesville, Pa. and Doris A. Byrd of Frederick, Md.; three stepdaughters, Bessie Howell of Nashville, Tenn., Rita Putman of Chiefton, Fla., and Margaret Cokley of Beach Grove, Tenn.; two sons, Dr. Edward B. Byrd of Hagerstown and William E. Byrd of Mobile, Ala.; three stepsons, James Byrd of Nashville, William Byrd of East Ridge, Tenn. and Robert Byrd of Brandon, Miss.; one sister, Annie Lee Campbell of Birmingham, Ala.; one brother, Robert F. Roberts of Tarrant City, Ala.; ten grandchildren and eight great-grandchildren.
Funeral services will be held Tuesday at 1:30 p.m. at Gerald N. Minnich Funeral Home, 305 N. Potomac St., Hagerstown. The Rev. Don Evanson will officiate. Entombment will be in Cedar Lawn Memorial Park.
Visitation will be prior to the service.

Yolanda L. Tagg
Yolanda L. Tagg, 53, of 451 Strafford Ave., Hagerstown, died Friday, Oct. 1, 1999, at her home.
Born Dec. 4, 1945, in Hagerstown, she was the daughter of Raymond G. and Josephine C. Gordon Ambrose of Hagerstown.
She was employed with Century 21, formerly Maryland General, as a real estate broker in Pennsylvania, West Virginia and Maryland.
She was a member of Gateway Ministries of Williamsport.
She was a member of the Board of Realtors.
In addition to her parents, she is survived by her husband, Robert L. Tagg; two grandsons, Adam T. Tagg and Aaron Ray Tagg and one aunt.
She was preceded in death by one son, Ivan Lee Tagg, III.
Funeral services will be held Tuesday at 10:30 a.m. at Gerald N. Minnich Funeral Home, 305 N. Potomac St., Hagerstown. The Rev. Mark Brandau will officiate. Burial will be in Broadfording Cemetery.
Visitation will be this evening from 6 to 8.
