Mildred E. Myers
Mildred Elizabeth Myers, 89, of 900 Concord St., Hagerstown, died Thursday, Sept. 30, 1999, at Washington County Hospital.
Born Nov. 4, 1909, in Chambersburg, Pa., she was the daughter of the late Charles E. and Beulah K. Humelsine Schaffer.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Guy Myers, in 1969.
She was employed as an operator with C&P Telephone Co. and was a dispatcher for Yellow and Mayflower Cab companies.
She was a member of St. Mark's Lutheran Church and Fisher Bible Class.
She is survived by a son, M. Richard Vaughn; a daughter-in-law, Violet Vaughn, who was her caregiver, of Hagerstown; a brother, Col. Ret. Charles D. Schaffer of Texas; two grandsons; three great-grandchildren; a step-granddaughter; and three step-great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by a daughter, Janice L. Day.
Services will be Monday at 1 p.m. at Minnich Funeral Home, 415 E. Wilson Blvd., Hagerstown. The Rev. David B. Kaplan will officiate. Burial will be in Rest Haven Cemetery.
The family will receive friends Sunday from 7 to 9 p.m. at the funeral home.

John C. Zombro
BRUNSWICK, Md. - John Clifford Zombro, 68, of 507 Sixth Ave., died Thursday, Sept. 30, 1999, at Frederick Memorial Hospital in Frederick, Md.
Born Sept. 14, 1931, in Bolivar, W.Va., he was the son of the late John Lewis and Ella Frances Dunn Zombro.
He was a retired computer operator with the Department of Energy in Germantown, Md. He was a former employee of the B&O Railroad in Brunswick, and worked part time for Marriott International in Frederick.
He served in the U.S. Army.
He was a member of New York Hill United Methodist Church in Brunswick.
He was a member of Steadman-Keenan Post No. 96 of the American Legion in Brunswick, the V.F.W., and Harpers Ferry Alumni Association. He was an Eagle Scout.
He is survived by his wife, Wanda Ambrose Zombro; a daughter, Valerie L. Nusbaum of Thurmont, Md.; a son, John K. Zombro of Bozeman, Mont.; two sisters, Gloria Meadows of Shenandoah Junction, W.Va., and Shirley Lucus of Bolivar; a grandson; six nieces and nephews; and 12 great-nieces and great-nephews.
He was preceded in death by a sister, Norma Zombro.
Services will be Sunday at 1 p.m. at John T. Williams Funeral Home, 100 Petersville Road in Brunswick. The Rev. Clark D. Carr will officiate. Burial will be in Park Heights cemetery in Brunswick.
The family will receive friends today from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. at the funeral home. For the convenience of friends, the funeral home will be open today from 2 to 9 p.m.
Hazel L. Sweeney
SHARPSBURG - Hazel Lorraine Sweeney, 79, of 116 W. Main St., died Friday, Oct. 1, 1999, at her home.
Born Jan. 25, 1920, in Hagerstown, she was the daughter of the late Boyd Anthony and Vallie Virginia Snead Snapp.
Her husband, Max Sweeney, died in 1991.
She attended Hagerstown High School.
She was a homemaker.
She was a member of Christ Reformed Church in Sharpsburg.
She was a member of AARP.
She is survived by three daughters, Pete Hamburg of Boonsboro, and Patricia M. Pena and Vicki S. Lowery, both of Hagerstown; one son, Jerry M. Sweeney, at home; two sisters, Peggy Hildebrand of Williamsport and Virginia Colyer of Woodburn, Ore.; 16 grandchildren; 23 great-grandchildren; and five step-great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by one sister, Helen Baum; one brother, Boyd Snapp; and one grandson.
Services will be Monday at 2 p.m. at Christ Reformed Church 117 W. Main St., Sharpsburg. The Rev. Beverly Lewis will officiate. Burial will be in Mountain View cemetery in Sharpsburg.
The family will receive friends Sunday from 6 to 8 p.m. at the church.
Flowers will be accepted at Osborne Funeral Home in Williamsport between 2 and 4 p.m. Sunday.
Dorothy M. Flohr
Dorothy M. Grove Flohr, 91, of 1500 Pennsylvania Ave., and formerly of 216 W. Fourth St., Waynesboro, Pa., died Thursday, Sept. 30, 1999, at Western Maryland Hospital.
Born May 3, 1908, in Hagerstown, she was the daughter of the late William A. Sr. and Bertha N. Nichols Grove.
Her husband, Jonathan Arthur Flohr, died April 7, 1998.
She attended Howard Street School in Hagerstown.
She was employed at Hagerstown Shoe Factory as a machine operator for more than 30 years.
She was a member of Loyal Order of Moose Lodge 1191 Ladies Auxiliary in Waynesboro; Funkstown American Legion Post 211 Ladies Auxiliary; and Fraternal Order of Eagles Lodge 694, Hagerstown.
She is survived by one daughter, Mildred E. Swartz of Baltimore; one stepdaughter, Kathryn M. Bennett of Waynesboro; one sister, Charlotte E. Grove of Hagerstown; two brothers, William A. Grove Jr. and Robert H. Grove, both of Hagerstown; four grandchildren; two step-granddaughters; four great-grandchildren; five step-great-grandchildren; and three nieces.
She was preceded in death by one sister, Mary E. Westfall; and one step-granddaughter.
Services will be held Monday at 11 a.m. at Grove Funeral Home, 50 S. Broad St., Waynesboro. The Rev. Victor I. Zuck will officiate. Burial will be in Price's Church cemetery near Waynesboro.
The family will receive friends Monday at 10 a.m. at the funeral home.

Robert R. Hawbaker
Robert Ronald "Yogi" Hawbaker, 60, of Hagerstown, died Thursday, Sept. 30, 1999, at Western Maryland Hospital Center.
Born March 12, 1939, in Washington County, he was the son of Alice Jane Rubeck Hawbaker Keckler of Hagerstown and the late Lester Robert Hawbaker.
He was preceded in death by his first wife, Patricia Gail Hawbaker, in 1980.
He was employed for more than 33 years by Pony Express; Halls Motor Co.; Charlton Brothers; St. John's Berry; Mason-Dixon; Smith Transfer; and Overnite Transportation.
He attended Broadfording Church of the Brethren Fellowship.
He was a member of Teamsters No. 992; and Retirees of No. 992.
In addition to his mother, he is survived by his stepfather, Robert C. Keckler of Hagerstown; his wife, Constance Resh Hawbaker; a stepdaughter, Cindy Lou Bircker of Clear Spring; a stepson, John W. Moser of Hagerstown; two sisters, Dorothy J. Hoffman of Hagerstown and Clara J. Smith of Greencastle, Pa.; four brothers, Max T. Hawbaker and Samuel H. Hawbaker, both of Hagerstown, Gary L. Hawbaker and David N. Hawbaker, both of Clear Spring; four step grandsons; nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by a brother, Richard E. Hawbaker.
Service will be Saturday at 10 a.m. at Broadfording Church of the Brethren Fellowship, Route 63, Cearfoss Pike. The Rev. Leon Yoder will officiate. Burial will be in Cedar Lawn Memorial Park.

James W. Nelson
KEEDYSVILLE, Md. - James William Nelson, 52, of 3304 Chestnut Grove Road, died Thursday, Sept. 30, 1999, at his home.
Born Jan. 20, 1947, in Keedysville, he was the son of Helen Avey Nelson Gay of Dargan, and the late Walter Gardner Nelson.
He was a retired heating and air conditioning mechanic with Southern Air-Temp in Leesburg, Va.
He was a member of Daisy's Chapel in Harpers Ferry, W.Va.
In addition to his mother, he is survived by his wife, Jane Carpenter Springer Nelson; two sons, Gary Nelson and Jimmy Nelson, both of Hagerstown; a stepdaughter, Mary Holmes of Keedysville; a stepson, Melvin Springer of Keedysville; two sisters, Doris Bowers of Knoxville, Md., and Sandra Gossard of Dargan; two brothers, John Nelson of Dargan and Bobby Nelson of Martinsburg, W.Va.; eight grandchildren; and a great-grandchild.
Services will be Monday at 2 p.m. at Sharpsburg Church of the Brethren, 123 E. Main St., Sharpsburg. The Revs. Jerry Carpenter, Larry Carpenter and Frank Nick will officiate. Burial will be at Mount Zion cemetery in San Mar.
The family will receive friends Saturday and Sunday from 7 to 9 p.m. at Eackles-Spencer Funeral Home, 970 Washington St., Harpers Ferry.
