Shirley L. Davis
Shirley Lee Davis, 69, of Hagerstown, died Wednesday, Sept. 29, 1999, at Washington County Hospital.
Born July 24, 1930, in Fort Ashby, W.Va., she was the daughter of the late James Dennison and Mary Virginia Pownell Alkire.
She was a 1948 graduate of Fort Ashby High School; and a 1951 graduate of Memorial Hospital School of Nursing in Cumberland, Md.
She retired from a nursing career in the 1970s.
She was a member of Grace Brethren Church in Hagerstown.
She is survived by her husband, Elmer James Davis; two daughters, Jamye Surgeon and Jodi Davis, both of Hagerstown; and three grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by a brother, Kenneth Jack Alkire.
Services will be Saturday at 10 a.m. at Minnich Funeral Home, 415 E. Wilson Blvd., Hagerstown. The Revs. Dennis R. Brown and Robert L. Dell will officiate. Burial will be in Cedar Lawn Memorial Park in Hagerstown.
The family will receive friends Friday from 7 to 9 p.m. at the funeral home.

Thelma S. Wynne
Thelma S. Wynne, 87, formerly of 16825 Shinham Road, died Tuesday, Sept. 28, 1999, at Fahrney-Keedy Memorial Home near Boonsboro.
Born April 24, 1912, in West Grove, Pa., she was the daughter of the late Walter G. and Mary Murray Schoch.
She retired as director of nursing at Fahrney-Keedy Memorial Home; and previously worked at Mack Trucks in Hagerstown.
She is survived by one daughter, Roberta W. Baker of Savannah, Ga.; one son, George C. Wynne of Erie, Pa.; four grandchildren; three great-grandchildren; and nieces and nephews.
Services will be Friday at 10 a.m. at Gerald N. Minnich Funeral Home, 305 N. Potomac St., Hagerstown. The Rev. Louis L. Emerick will officiate. Burial will be Friday at 2 p.m. in New London Presbyterian cemetery in New London, Pa.
Visitation will be today from 1 to 5 p.m. at the funeral home.

Jack E. Love
Jack Edward Love, 75, of 2 W. Wilson Blvd., Hagerstown, died Tuesday, Sept. 28, 1999, at his home.
Born Sept. 7, 1924, in Hagerstown, he was the son of Anna Moore Love of Hagerstown and the late Junius A. Love.
He graduated with honors from Notre Dame University; and was a star athlete. He graduated from Georgetown School of Linguistics.
He was signed by the Chicago Bears.
He worked for the FBI for 16 years; the Cook County District Attorney's office in Chicago; National Geological Survey; was a professor of social studies and law enforcement at Hagerstown Junior College; and taught social studies at M.C.T.C., retiring in 1989.
He served in the U.S. Army.
He was an All-American Athlete for the State of Maryland two years in a row.
He was a concert pianist for 13 years.
He was a member of AMVETS Post No. 10.
In addition to his mother, he is survived by his wife, Betty L. Love; a daughter, Gretchen L. Love of Hagerstown; a son, Michael B. Love of Hagerstown; and two granddaughters.
Service will be Friday at 2 p.m. at Minnich Funeral Home, 415 E. Wilson Blvd., Hagerstown. The Rev. Louis L. Emerick will officiate.
Burial will be at the convenience of the family.
The family will receive friends today from 7 to 9 p.m. at the funeral home.

Patricia L. McCann
Patricia Louise McCann, 48, of 1 E. Baltimore St., Hagerstown, died Tuesday, Sept. 28, 1999, at Colton Villa Nursing Center in Hagerstown.
Born March 18, 1951, in Washington D.C., she was the daughter of the late H. Warren and Regina Graham McCann.
She was employed by Montgomery Wards.
She is survived by a son, Joel W. McCann of Hagerstown; and three sisters, Kathy Bachtell of Smithsburg, Linda Mulieri of Hagerstown and Peggy Eyler of Williamsport.
A memorial service will be held Thursday at 10 a.m. at Douglas A. Fiery Funeral Home, 1331 Eastern Blvd. North, Hagerstown. The Rev. Edward Manalis will officiate.

Hilda G. Long
Hilda Gilbert Long, 90, of 869 Mulberry Ave., Hagerstown, died Monday, Sept. 27, 1999, at her home.
Born April 17, 1909, in Waynesboro, Pa., she was the daughter of the late Lewis DeLoyd and Elizabeth Amelia Householder Gilbert.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Dunn McCarter Long, in 1979.
She was a 1927 graduate of Hagerstown High School. She attended Ward Belmont College in Nashville, Tenn.; and Brenau College in Gainesville, Ga.
She was employed by Quartermaster Corps in Washington, D.C.; Fairchild Industries; Leiter Brothers; and Henneberger's Gifts and Bridal Registry Shop.
She was a member of Zion Evangelical and Reformed Church U.C.C.
She was a member of Alpha Xi Delta Sorority of Brenau College Order of the Red Roses; Washington County Historical Society; Washington County Museum of Fine Arts; and a patron of the Maryland Theatre.
She is survived by a daughter, Victoria Dunhil Long Bringman.
Graveside services will be Friday at 11 a.m. at Green Hill Cemetery, 953 S. Potomac St., Waynesboro. Chaplin Donald C. Evason and the Rev. Victor I. Zuck will officiate.
There will be no viewing.

Mary E. Anthony
Mary Elizabeth Anthony, 80, of 440 Mitchell Ave., Hagerstown, died Monday, Sept. 27, 1999, at Ravenwood Nursing Home.
Born Dec. 7, 1918, in Williamsport, she was the daughter of the late Charles Jacob and Lillie Mae Cornell Teach.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Harry A. Anthony, in 1985.
She attended Christ Reformed Church.
She was a member of AARP.
She is survived by two sisters, Dorothy Bernhisel of Hagerstown and Josephine Palmer of Boonsboro; a brother, Harry Teach of Hagerstown; nieces; nephews; and a niece, her guardian, Ruth L. Grove of Hagerstown.
Services will be Thursday at 2 p.m. at Minnich Funeral Home, 415 E. Wilson Blvd., Hagerstown. The Rev. Raymond H. Shriver will officiate. Burial will be in Rest Haven Cemetery.
The family will receive friends today from 7 to 9 p.m. and Thursday at 1 p.m. at the funeral home.
