Laverna M. Chaney
FREDERICK, Md. - Laverna Mae Chaney, 79, of 6885 Crabapple Court, died Sunday, Sept. 26, 1999, at Frederick Memorial Hospital.
Born May 21, 1920, in Rocky Springs, Md., she was the daughter of the late John G. and Rosa Main Mackenzie.
She had worked for many years at Sears in Frederick, as an audit clerk.
She is survived by her husband of 52 years, Glenn R. Chaney, and a number of nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by one sister, Onedoa Mackenzie, and two brothers Markwood C. Mackenzie and Linwood Mackenzie II.
Funeral services will be held Tuesday at 10 a.m. in Keeney and Basford Funeral Home, 106 E. Church St., Frederick. The Rev. Loyal H. Vanderveer will officiate. Burial will be in Mount Olivet Cemetery, Frederick.
The family will receive friends this evening from 7 to 9 at the funeral home.
Thelma M. Davis
Thelma May Davis, 92, of 12918 The Terrace, Hagerstown, died Saturday, Sept. 25, 1999, at Washington County Hospital.
Born April 11, 1907, in Bunker Hill, W.Va., she was the daughter of the late Welton Dorsey Cain and Mary E. Bennett Cain Finnigan.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Albert Morgan Davis, in 1974.
She was a C&P Telephone operator in the late 1920s, when the company switched to dial telephones.
She was an active member of First Christian Church for more than 50 years.
She was a Red Cross volunteer during World War II.
She is survived by two daughters, Thelma Delores "Dee" South of Hagerstown and Sondra Lee Franz of West Chester, Pa.; a half sister, Ruth Light of Clearbrook, Va.; three grandchildren; four great-grandchildren; two nieces and a nephew.
In addition to her parents and husband, she was preceded in death by a half sister, Irene Smallwood; and two brothers, John Cain and Howard Cain.
Service will be Monday at 2:30 p.m. at Douglas A. Fiery Funeral Home, 1331 Eastern Blvd. North, Hagerstown. The Rev. Fred M. Harris and the Rev. Robert L. Regenold will officiate. Burial will be in Rest Haven Cemetery, Hagerstown.
Visitation will be Monday one hour prior to the service at the funeral home.

Paul N. Beck
Paul N. Beck, 60, of 19105 Olde Waterford Road, Hagerstown, died Friday, Sept. 24, 1999, at Washington County Hospital.
Born Dec. 5, 1938, in New York City, he was the son of the late Paul E. and Joan Canton Beck.
He received his bachelor's degree in civil engineering from Manhattan College and later his master's degree in business administration from New York University.
He was a professional engineer in New York and Maryland.
He was a member of St. Ann Catholic Church.
He was on the Board of Directors and chairman of the Site Committee for Habitat for Humanity of Washington County.
He was a commissioner for Washington County Housing Authority; and a charter member of the Institution of the Engineers of Ireland.
He is survived by three sisters, Patricia Heffner of Monroe, N.Y., Virginia Beck and Eileen Beck, both of Hagerstown; a brother, Martin P. Beck of New Windsor, N.Y.; nieces; nephews; great-nieces and great-nephews.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated Monday at 11 a.m. at St. Ann Catholic Church, 1525 Oak Hill Ave., Hagerstown. Father Andrew S. Mohl will be celebrant. Burial will be in Rest Haven Cemetery, Hagerstown.
Visitation will be today from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. at Douglas A. Fiery Funeral Home, 1331 Eastern Blvd. North, Hagerstown.

Rev. Laverne E. Rohrbaugh
BELTSVILLE, Md. - Rev. Laverne E. Rohrbaugh, 75, of Beltsville, died Tuesday, Sept. 21, 1999, in Washington, D.C., of cancer.
He was born in York County, Pa.
He was a graduate of Lebanon Valley College in Pennsylvania and Lutheran Theological Seminary in Pennsylvania.
He was the minister of Centenary United Methodist Church in Biglerville, Pa. from 1946 to 1964. He was the minister of Grace United Methodist Church in Hagerstown for 10 years, from 1964 to 1974. From 1974 to 1983, he was the minister of Mount Vernon Place United Methodist Church in Washington, D.C. He retired from Cheverly United Methodist Church in 1986 after serving three years.
He was a prisoner of war during World War II; during that time he decided to become a minister.
He is survived by his wife, Shirley Rohrbaugh; and his daughter, Pam Draper, in Centreville, Va.
Service will be Tuesday at 11:30 a.m. at Mount Vernon Place United Methodist Church, 900 Massachusetts Ave., Washington, D, C.
Burial will be Tuesday at 2 p.m. in Arlington National Cemetery.
Visitation will be Tuesday from 10 to 11:30 a.m. prior to the service at the church.

Arthur W. Abbott Sr.
WILLIAMSPORT - Arthur Woodrow Abbott Sr., 84, of 15806 Clear Spring Road, died Friday, Sept. 24, 1999, at his home.
Born in Mount Briar, Md., he was the son of the late George W. and Carrie Norris Abbott.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Prudence Bussard Abbott, in 1993.
He retired from the Washington County Roads Department.
He was of the Protestant faith.
He was a member of AARP.
He is survived by two daughters, Lorraine Weeks of King George, Va. and Marcella A. Nicewarner of Hedgesville, W.Va.; five sons, Roger L. Abbott and Donald E. Abbott, both of Greencastle, Pa., Arthur W. Abbott Jr. of Tucson, Ariz., Francis W. Abbott and Ricky G. Abbott, both of Hagerstown; two sisters, Maxine Mikus of Keedysville and Glendora Rohrer of Sharpsburg; 11 grandchildren; and 12 great-grandchildren.
In addition to his parents and wife, he was preceded in death by three sisters; and five brothers.
Service will be Tuesday at 11 a.m. at Osborne Funeral Home, 425 S. Conococheague St., Williamsport. The Rev. Robert V. Robinson will officiate. Burial will be in Cedar Lawn Memorial Park in Hagerstown.
Visitation will be Monday from 7 to 9 p.m. at the funeral home. For the convenience of family and friends, the funeral home will be open Monday after 9 a.m.
David T. Goyt
David T. "Tom" Goyt, 76, of Walnut Towers, Hagerstown, died Saturday, Sept. 25, 1999, at Colton Villa Nursing Center.
Born June 27, 1923, in Washington, D.C, he was the son of the late Elta Goyt.
He was employed by Mack Trucks Inc., retiring in 1989.
He served in the U.S. Army during World War II.
He was of the Protestant faith.
He was a member of the American Legion.
He is survived by his wife, Clara D. Goyt; six daughters and sons; six stepdaughters and stepsons; a brother; and grandchildren.
Private graveside services will be Monday at Rest Haven Cemetery, 1601 Pennsylvania Ave., Hagerstown.
There will be no viewing.
In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to American Cancer Society, 1037 Haven Road, Hagerstown, MD 21742.
