Ed Garvin
VALDOSTA, Ga. - Ed Garvin, 74, of Valdosta, died Thursday, Aug. 26, 1999, at his home.
Born Dec. 7, 1924, in Hagerstown, he was the son of the late Harry C. and Sarah Virginia Armstrong Garvin.
He was the owner of Commercial Painting and Wall Cover.
He was a U.S. Navy veteran of World War II, serving in the South Pacific.
He was a member of Westside Baptist Church.
He is survived by his wife, Brona Wetherington Garvin; a daughter, Dena Denise Garvin of Gainesville, Fla.; a son, Edward Joseph Garvin Jr. of Valdosta; a sister, Pauline Garver of Hagerstown; two brothers, Harry Garvin and Richard Garvin, both of Hagerstown; and three grandchildren.
Services will be today at 2 p.m. at Carson McLane Funeral Home Chapel, Valdosta. The Revs. Ernie Jones and Tom Hutchinson will officiate. Burial will follow in Sunset Hill Cemetery.
Visitation was held Friday, Aug. 27, at the funeral home.

Grace N. Jones
BOONSBORO - Grace Naomi Jones, 91, of 24 Young Ave., died Thursday, Aug. 26, 1999, at her home.
Born April 24, 1908, in Frost Town, near Middletown, Md., she was the daughter of the late Howard Lesley and Mary Ellen Moser Huffer.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Otho M. Jones, in 1970.
She was a homemaker.
During the Depression, she made clothing for children.
She was a member of Mount Nebo United Methodist Church in Boonsboro.
She was a member of Boonsboro Fire Co. Ladies Auxiliary; Boonsboro Senior Citizens; and the Democratic Club. She was a volunteer at Reeders Memorial Home, Boonsboro.
She is survived by five daughters, Thelma Duffey and Anna Mae Derr, both of Boonsboro, Janice Kramer of Hollywood, Fla., Selvia Jean Gouker of Middletown and Barbara Reeder of Arlington, Va.; a son, Alvey Jones of Smithsburg; 15 grandchildren; 24 great-grandchildren; and seven great-great-grandchildren.
Services will be Monday at 11 a.m. at Bast Funeral Home, 7606 Old National Pike, Boonsboro. The Rev. Ron Kurtz will officiate. Burial will be in Boonsboro Cemetery.
The family will receive friends Sunday from 7 to 9 p.m. at the funeral home, which will be open Sunday after noon.

Ethel M. Bachtell
BIG SPRING - Ethel M. Bachtell, 90, formerly of 11171 Big Spring Road, died Thursday, Aug. 26, 1999, at Williamsport Nursing Home, Williamsport.
Born Oct. 8, 1908, in Big Pool, she was the daughter of the late James D. and Emma J. Roof Hart.
Her first husband, Lloyd M. Beauchamp, died in 1938. Her second husband, Merlel Bachtell, died in 1976.
She retired from Victor Products, Hagerstown.
She was a lifetime member of St. Paul United Methodist Church in Big Pool, and taught Sunday school for many years.
She is survived by one son, Samuel H. Beauchamp Sr. of Big Pool; seven grandchildren; and 13 great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by one daughter, Betty Jane Beauchamp Gantz.
Graveside services will be held Monday at 11:30 a.m. at Mount Carmel cemetery in Big Pool. The Revs. Dennis Whitmore and Tom Perry will officiate.
A memorial service will follow at 11:45 a.m. Monday at St. Paul United Methodist Church.
Visitation will be at the church Sunday from 3 to 5 p.m.

Harry L. Green
LEITERSBURG - Harry L. Green, 87, of Cooper Lane, died Thursday, Aug. 26, 1999, at Washington County Hospital.
Born July 19, 1912, in Washington County, he was the son of the late Luther Charles and Mable Leatherman Green.
He was a farmer, retiring in 1977. He was employed with Massey Motor of Hagerstown for 10 years; and was a school bus driver for the Washington County Board of Education for 10 years, retiring in 1989.
He was a Protestant.
He was one of the founders and a life member of Leitersburg Volunteer Fire Co.
He is survived by his wife of 60 years, Ethel I. Wallick Green; a daughter, Phyllis L. McNairn of Leitersburg; three sisters, Mary E. Gomez of Gaithersburg, Md., Ethel Mae Rowe and Charlotte E. Dixon, both of Boonsboro; three grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by three brothers, Charles Green, Jacob Green and Roy Green.
Services will be Monday at 11 a.m. at Davis Funeral Home, Smithsburg. The Rev. John W. Schildt will officiate. Burial will be in Rose Hill Cemetery, Hagerstown.
The family will receive friends Sunday from 7 to 9 p.m. at the funeral home.
Lorenzo H. Johnson
Lorenzo Harrison Johnson, 83, of 220 Manila Ave., Hagerstown, died Wednesday, Aug. 25, 1999, at Washington County Hospital.
Born March 13, 1916, in Cumberland, Md., he was the son of the late Charles Edward Johnson Sr. and Mamie Alice Reed Johnson.
His wife, Virgie Marie Moore Johnson, died in 1996.
He owned and operated L.H. Johnson Contractor prior to retiring.
He was a member of Christ's Reformed Church.
He is survived by one daughter, Virginia L. Miller of Hagerstown; one son, William Lorenzo Johnson of Hagerstown; three sisters, Lillian Cage of Cumberland, Mary Donahue of New Jersey and Pat Stallings of Pompano Beach, Fla.; five brothers, Charles E. Johnson Jr. and Johnnie Johnson, both of Hagerstown, Thomas Johnson of Detroit, Claude Johnson of Orlando, Fla., and Donald V. Johnson of Frederick, Md.; five grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by one sister, Nellie Lloyd; and two brothers, Albert Johnson and Daniel Johnson.
Services will be held Monday at 1 p.m. at Andrew K. Coffman Funeral Home, 40 E. Antietam St., Hagerstown. The Rev. Louis L. Emerick will officiate. Burial will be in Rest Haven Cemetery.
The family will receive friends at the funeral home Sunday from 7 to 9 p.m.
