Melva Jane Steyer Cator, 62, Montville, Ohio, died Sunday, Aug. 29, 2004, at the Hospice House of the Western Reserve in Cleveland, Ohio.
Born March 11, 1942, in Bayard, W.Va., she was a daughter of the late John W. Gay and Mary E. (Conway) Gay. She was also preceded in death by her two husbands, Lawrence Steyer and Robert A. Cator.
She was a homemaker.
Surviving are six daughters, Patricia Collins, Thompson, Ohio, Denise Sowa, Medina, Ohio, Judy Young, Thompson, Tanya Mier, Medina, Karen Lindermann, Roaming Shores, Ohio, and Kathleen Pniewski, Madison, Ohio; two sons, Ray Steyer, Perry, Ohio, and Karl Cator, Yorktown, Va.; one sister, Nancy Gay, Oakland; three brothers, Lloyd Gay, Robards, Ky., Roy Gay, Enterprise, W.Va., and Joseph Gay, Bayard, W.Va.; 19 grandchildren; and two great-grandsons.
A private family burial was held at the Garrett County Memorial Gardens, Oakland, with the Rev. William McCallister of Bayard officiating.
In lieu of flowers, the family suggests that contributions be sent to Hospice of the Western Reserve, 5786 Heisley Road, Mentor, OH 44060.
Arrangements were under the direction of the Behm Family Funeral Home & Crematory, Madison.
NELLIE M. HAWK
Nellie M. Hawk, 101, Mt. Storm, W.Va., died Monday, Aug. 30, 2004, at her home.
Born Aug. 15, 1903, in Grassy Ridge, W.Va., she was a daughter of the late Albert and Irena (Hanlin) Cosner. She was also preceded in death by her husband, Dewey R. Hawk, in 1983; an infant daughter, Arvella Hawk; one brother, Arlie Cosner; one sister, Amy Kitzmiller; five grandchildren; and two daughters-in-law.
She was a member of the Locust Grove Church of the Brethren, Mt. Storm. Nellie was a homemaker and a loving mother and grandmother, and loved sewing, crocheting, and farming, but her greatest joy was taking care of her family.
She is survived by three daughters, Ruth Janoske and husband Wade, Oakland, Sylvia Fulayter, Barrackville, W.Va., and Sandra Cosner, Mt. Storm, with whom she lived and she cared for her mom for the past 12 years; five sons, Harold "Gene" Hawk and wife Adeline, Kitzmiller, DeWayne "Jake" Hawk and wife Irene, Mt. Storm, Loran Hawk and wife Jean, Fayetteville, N.C., Larry Hawk and wife Stella, Grafton, W.Va., and Jerry Hawk and wife Debbie, Mt. Storm; one sister, Dorothy Hoeck, Fort Washington; 25 grandchildren; 48 great-grandchildren; and seven great-great-grandchildren.
Friends were received at the Stewart Funeral Home, Oakland.
A service was held at the Locust Grove Church of the Brethren today, Thursday, Sept. 2, with the Rev. Paul Smith and Rev. Jeffrey Wolfe officiating.
Interment was in the Locust Grove Cemetery, Mt. Storm.
KENNETH L. TEAGARDEN SR.
Kenneth Leroy Teagarden Sr., 78, Parsons, W.Va., died Monday, Aug. 30, 2004, at the Cortland Acres Nursing Home, Thomas, W.Va.
Born Oct. 22, 1925, in Hendrysburg, Ohio, he was a son of the late Rev. Harold O. Teagarden and Mabel V. Morgan Teagarden. He was also preceded in death by his wife Emma Geraldine Martin, who died Jan. 13, 1999; three brothers, Harold Teagarden, William Teagarden, and Rex Teagarden; and one sister, Evelyn Biser.
He attended Oakland High School. He was a veteran of the U.S. Navy during World War II, having served in the Asiatic Pacific Theatre and in the Philippines. He was a manager for the former H.P. Store in Parsons, and was the owner and operator of the former K&G Store at Parsons. He was a member of the First United Methodist Church at Parsons.
He was a member of the Pythagoras Lodge #128 AF&AM, Parsons; a member of the Scottish Rite of Clarksburg; a member of the Osiris Temple of Wheeling, a member of the Tygarts Valley Shrine Club, and a member of the Parsons Chapter #91 Order of the Eastern Star.
Surviving are two sons, Kenneth Leroy Teagarden Jr., Parsons, and Glenn Ray Teagarden, Oakland; two daughters, Linda Kay Cutright, Thomas, W.Va., and Sheila Marie Blosser, Parsons; one brother, Donald Teagarden, Oakland; one sister, Bonnie Snyder, Oakland; eight grandchildren; and five great-grandchildren.
Friends were received at the Lohr & Barb Funeral Home, where final rites were conducted today, Thursday, Sept. 2, with the Rev. Shelba Sisler officiating.
Pythagoras Lodge #128, AF&AM conducted ritualistic graveside rites.
Interment followed at the Bethel Cemetery at Holly Meadows.
MICHAEL J. WINTER
Michael J. Winter, 84, Swanton, died Monday, Aug. 30, 2004, at Garrett County Memorial Hospital, Oakland.
Born May 22, 1920, in McKees Rock, Pa., he was the son of the late John Winter and Elizabeth (Rollings) Winter.
He was a retired service manager at Sharps Chevrolet and Team One Auto Mall, an Army veteran of World War II, and a member of Mt. Top Promenaders.
He is survived by his wife, Eleanor (Yarosz) Winter; three sons, Michael S. Winter and Richard S. Winter, both of Pittsburgh, and Paul D. Winter, Grantsville; one sister, Anna Mae Klemanski, Pittsburgh; and six grandchildren.
Friends will be received at the Durst Funeral Home, Oakland, today, Thursday, Sept. 2, from 2 to 6 p.m.
A service will be conducted at the funeral home on Friday at 11 a.m., with Pastor Pat Pittsnogle officiating.
Interment will be in Garrett County Memorial Gardens.
SAMUEL A. TERRANT
Samuel A. Terrant, 62, Terra Alta, W.Va., died Tuesday, Aug. 31, 2004, at his home.
Born July 10, 1942, in Kempton, he was a son of the late Henry Terrant and Opal Wisner Terrant, Table Rock.
He was a member of St. Paul's Lutheran Church, Aurora, W.Va. He worked at Island Creek Coal Company, North Branch at Bayard, W.Va., and also at A.S. Johnson Plumbing Company in Virginia.
He is survived by his wife, Linda Sisler Terrant; two sons, Dennis and Kevin Terrant, both of Terra Alta; one daughter, Deanne Donnelly, Eglon, W.Va.; three brothers, Bob Terrant, Florida, George Terrant, Virginia, and Danny Terrant, Oakland; two sisters, Josephine O'Brien, Virginia, and Sue Sharpless, Oakland; and four grandchildren.
Friends were received at St. Paul's Lutheran Church, Aurora, where a service was held today, Thursday, Sept. 2, with Pastor Keith Pittsnogle officiating.
Interment was in the Garrett County Memorial Gardens, Oakland.

KAZUKO Y. HAMILL
Kazuko Y. Hamill, 71, Oakland, died Monday, Aug. 23, 2004, at her home.
Born March 23, 1933, in Tokyo, Japan, she was preceded in death by two husbands, Crawford E. Booth, in 1973, and Judge Stuart F. Hamill Jr., in 1990.
Mrs. Hamill was a 1960 graduate of the Spencer School of Business, a member of the Garrett County Historical Society, the Oakland Golf Club, and past member of the Junior Woman's Civic Club.
Surviving are her daughter, Linda Beckman and husband Roy, Allison Park, Pa.; one granddaughter, Taylor Rachel Beckman; several brothers and sisters; and numerous nieces and nephews.
At her request, her body was cremated.
A memorial service will be held at a later date.
Inurnment will be in Oakland Cemetery.
The family requests that memorials take the form of contributions to the charity of the donor's choice.
Durst Funeral Home, Oakland, is in charge of arrangements.
MAUREEN LAPOSKY
Maureen Laposky, 56, Medina, Ohio, died Wednesday, Sept. 1, 2004.
She was born March 17, 1948, in Latrobe, Pa.
She was a human resources systems analyst for Westfield Companies.
Surviving are her husband, Richard W. Laposky; one son, Aaron Laposky, Chicago; two sisters, Diane Pawlish, Pleasant Unity, Pa., and Susan Lisannti, Oakland; and one brother, Michael P. Kozusko, New Mexico.
Private family services were held.

ALVIN L. WESTFALL SR.
Alvin Lewis "Huck" Westfall Sr., 76, New Creek, W.Va., died Wed-nesday, Sept. 15, 2004, at his residence.
Born Aug. 23, 1928, in Franklin, W.Va., he was the son of the late Claude Elmer and Ruth Esther (Brown) Westfall. He was also preceded in death by two brothers, Raymond Claude Westfall and Kenneth Ronald Westfall; three sisters, Mildred Louise Raines, Dora Lee Sharon, and Josephine DeShong; and one grandson.
He was formerly a coal miner and retired as a butcher.
Surviving are his wife, Mildred Louise (Simmons) Westfall; three sons, Robert "Junior" Simmons, Corona, Calif., Alvin Westfall Jr., Oakland, and Marshall Westfall, Westernport; two brothers, Paul Westfall, Westernport, and Victor Westfall, Rawlings; five sisters, Esther Raines, Mogadore, Ohio, Maxine Imperio, Burlington, W.Va., Evelyn Shingler, Westernport, Becky Harris, Burlington, and Mable Heavner, Fountain, W.Va.; five grandchildren; and seven great-grandchildren.

The body was cremated, and will be inurned at Philos Cemetery, Westernport, at a later date.
WALTER L. DAVY JR.
Walter Linwood Davy Jr., 48, Florida, died Saturday, Sept. 11, 2004, 2004, at his residence.
Born Dec. 11, 1995, he was the son of Walter Linwood Sr. and the late Estella Jane (Holt) Davy, Oakland.
He is survived by one brother, Richard Wayne Davy, Florida.
A service will be held in Oakland at a later date. Inurnment will be held in the family plot in Bayard, W.Va.
JUANITA L. HINEBAUGH
Juanita L. Hinebaugh, 69, Madison, Ohio, died Monday, Sept. 13, 2004, at University Hospitals in Cleveland.
She was born Aug. 22, 1935, in Hazelton, W.Va., and lived most of her life in Mentor, Ohio. She was preceded in death by her husband, Ervin Hinebaugh Sr.; and one brother, David Taylor.
She was a former member of Victory Baptist Church and member of Women of the Moose in Eastlake, Ohio. She worked in the office of Laketran, retiring in 1997 after many years of service.
Surviving are her children, Ervin Hinebaugh Jr., Jefferson, Ohio, Pamela Hinebaugh, Las Vegas, and Kimberly Hinebaugh and Sherri Kreiling, both of Conneaut, Ohio; 11 grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren.

Josephine Shearer, Cumberland, died Friday, Sept. 17, 2004, at Devlin Manor Nursing Home, Cumberland.
Born in Amsterdam, N.Y., she was the daughter of the late Michael and Marie (Martin) Maggio. She was also preceded in death by her husband, William J. Shearer.
She was a buyer for various department stores, was of the Catholic faith, and attended St. Mark's United Church of Christ.
She is survived by two nephews, Michael and John Guagliardo, both of New York; and one niece, Mary Cipriano, New York.
Friends were received at the Newman Funeral Home, Grantsville, where a service was held on Monday, Sept. 20, with the Rev. Harold Shaffer officiating.
Interment was in the Grantsville Cemetery.
KENNETH W. BRABSON
Kenneth "Kenny" Wayne Brabson, 56, Cumberland, died Thursday, Sept. 16, 2004, at the WMHS Memorial Campus Hospital, Cumberland.
Born June 18, 1948, in Grantsville, he was a son of the late George Brabson and Nina (Ross) Brabson. He was also preceded in death by one brother, Henry Brabson; and two sisters, Karen Hott and Darlene Llewellyn.
He was employed at Brabson Demolition.
He is survived by his wife, Irene Brabson; and two brothers, Raymond Brabson, Carpenter's Addition, W.Va., and Harold Brabson, Cumberland.

Interment was at Hillcrest Memorial Park.
JERRY L. BROWNING
Jerry L. Browning, 68, Oakland, died Thursday, Sept. 16, 2004, at the Garrett County Memorial Hospital, Oakland.
Born April 9, 1936, in Oakland, he was the son of the late Lynn T. and Evelyn T. (Weimer) Browning. He was also preceded in death by one sister, Margaret Helbig.
He was a member of the Deer Park United Methodist Church, where he served as the Sunday school superintendent and a teacher. He retired in 1986 after 31 years of service with CSX Railroad as a tower operator and was a member of the Transportation-Communications International Union.
A U.S. Army veteran serving from 1962 to 1963, he was a member of the Proctor Kildow Post 71, American Legion, Oakland.
He was a former mayor of the town of Deer Park, was an active supporter of the Deer Park Community Volunteer Fire Dept., and was a former bass drummer for the Garrett College Pipes and Drums. He was a member of Lodge 11, WOW, and was a member and adult leader of the Country Kids 4-H Club. His family was voted a Garrett County Family of the Year.
He is survived by his wife, Janet R. (Phillippi) Browning; one daughter, Barbara A. Browning, Cumberland; one son, Paul L. Browning, Oakland; and two sisters, Lena Shahan, Bedford Heights, Ohio, and Wilma McCrobie, Newnan, Ga.
Friends were received at the Stewart Funeral Home, Oakland.
A service was held at the Deer Park United Methodist Church on Sunday, Sept. 19, with the Rev. Neil Parsons and the Rev. L. Joseph Robinette officiating.
Interment was in the Garrett County Memorial Gardens, Oakland.
Military honors were accorded at the cemetery by members of the various veterans' organizations in southern Garrett County.
