Tempie Louise Hammell
FREDERICK, Md. - Tempie Louise Engle Hammell, 88, of Frederick, died Thursday, Aug. 19, 1999, at Citizens Nursing Home of Frederick County.
Her husband, Frederick Paul Hammell, died in 1992.
Born Nov. 6, 1910, in Frederick, she was the daughter of the late Lewis H. Engle and Temmiezine P. Green Engle Stoner.
She was a graduate of Frederick High School.
Early in life, she was employed by Blue Ridge Transportation Co., and later with Ox Fibre Brush Co. in Frederick. She retired in 1977 from the Frederick County Board of Education.
She was a member of Evangelical Reformed United Church of Christ in Frederick, where she taught Sunday school, and was a member of the church choir and Voluntas-Swingli Circle.
She was a member of AARP, where she was program chairman and NARFE. She served as secretary of Cooperating Ministries of Frederick County.
She also was a member of Frederick Business and Professional Women's Club, serving as president, and was a recipient of its Woman of the Year Award. She was honored in May 1993 for 50 years of membership.
During World War II, she was active in the American Red Cross, serving in the Home Service Program and Motor Corps. She taught first aid and was a member of Civil Defense.
She is survived by nieces, great-nieces, great-nephews, great-great-nieces and great-great-nephews.
Services will be held Monday at 10 a.m. at Keeney and Basford Funeral Home, 106 E. Church St., Frederick. The Rev. Frederick A. Wenner will officiate. Burial will be in Mount Olivet Cemetery, Frederick.
The family will receive friends at the funeral home Sunday from 7 to 9 p.m.

William R. Dampier
DUNNELLON, Fla. - William Russell Dampier, 87, of Dunnellon, died Tuesday, Aug. 17, 1999, at Harborside Health Care in Ocala, Fla.
Born Oct. 13, 1911, in Adel, Ga., he was the son of the late William G. and Ella Ryals Dampier.
His wife, Leah Eakle Dampier, preceded him in death.
He is survived by three daughters, Anita White of Hagerstown, Linda Clark of Tallahassee, Fla., and Jean Cummings of Oklawaha, Fla.; two granddaughters; and two great-grandsons.
Burial will be at the convenience of the family.
Arrangements are by Roberts Funeral Home in Ocala.
Marguerite A. Tolland
MYERSVILLE, Md. - Marguerite Anne Tolland, 73, of Myersville, died Wednesday, Aug. 18, 1999, at St. Agnes Hospital in Baltimore.
Born Dec. 13, 1925, in Dover, N.H., she was the daughter of the late James and Anastasia Holden Cavanaugh.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Jack Tolland, in 1994.
She retired as head nurse from Frederick Memorial Hospital Emergency Room.
She was a member of Holy Family Catholic Community in Middletown and Catholic Daughters. She participated in Catholic charities.
She is survived by six sons, Mark Tolland of Mount Airy, N.C., James Tolland of Frederick, Md., Sean Tolland, Kevin Tolland and Dennis Tolland, all of Myersville, and Brian Tolland of Cleveland; a sister, Louise Cavanaugh of Frederick; and 13 grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by a sister, Anastasia Earabino.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated Monday at 1 p.m. at Holy Family Catholic Community, Middletown. The Rev. John Moore will be celebrant. Burial will be in St. John's Catholic cemetery in Frederick.
A Wake of Christian Burial will begin Saturday at 7:30 p.m. at Ricketts Funeral Home, 504 Main St., Myersville.
The family will receive friends Saturday from 6 to 9 p.m. at the funeral home, which will be open from 9 a.m. A Wake of Christian Burial will begin at 7:30 p.m.

Sheridan Wolfe
Sheridan Wolfe, 51, of 116 Bryan Place, Hagerstown, died Thursday, Aug. 19, 1999, at Washington County Hospital.
Born March 17, 1948, in Hagerstown, he was the son of Mary L. Meador Wolfe and the late George Albert Wolfe.
He was employed with Crossroads.
He was a member of Christ's Reformed Church.
In addition to his mother, he is survived by a sister, Martha Voight of Appleton, Wis.; and two nieces.
Services will be Monday at 11 a.m. at Minnich Funeral Home, 415 E. Wilson Blvd. The Rev. Don R. Stevenson will officiate. Burial will be in Rest Haven Cemetery.

Urcel O. McCusker
HANCOCK - Urcel O. McCusker, 65, formerly of Exline Road, and a resident of Colton Villa in Hagerstown, died Thursday, Aug. 19, 1999, at Colton Villa.
Born Dec. 7, 1933, in Hancock, he was the son of the late Austin William and Anna Mae Miller McCusker.
He was employed by the Maryland State Roads Department for 19 years, He retired as a caretaker from Woodmont Rod and Gun Club.
He was a Protestant.
He was a member of AARP.
He is survived by three sisters, Regina Manning of Wilmington, N.C., Marion Kerns of Berkeley Springs and Anna Louise Kidwell of Great Cacapon, W.Va.; four brothers, Loyal McCusker, Kenneth McCusker and Gail McCusker, all of Hancock, and Lester McCusker of Clear Spring; nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by a sister, Evelyn McCusker; and a brother, Donald McCusker.
Services will be Saturday at 11 a.m. at Grove Funeral Home, 141 W. Main St., Hancock. The Rev. William Swope will officiate. Burial will be in Mount Olivet Presbyterian cemetery near Hancock.
The family will receive friends today from 2 to 4 p.m. and 7 to 9 p.m. at the funeral home, which will be open from 1 p.m.

Edward L. Heffner
KNOXVILLE, Md. - Edward Lee Heffner, 68, of 4304 Catholic Church Road, died Wednesday, Aug. 18, 1999, at Frederick (Md.) Memorial Hospital.
Born Aug. 20, 1930, in Brunswick, Md., he was the son of the late John Lewis and Estella Gertrude Ecker Heffner.
He retired as a carman with CSX Railway System in Brunswick after 40 years.
He was a member of First Baptist Church in Brunswick.
He was a member of Carman's Lodge No. 125.
He is survived by his wife of 45 years, Elaine Sigler Heffner; four daughters, Pam Gomez of Knoxville, Charlotte Payne of Sharpsburg, Barbara Heffner of Martinsburg, W.Va., and Cathy Heffner of Charles Town, W.Va.; a son, Toby Heffner of Knoxville; a brother, Richard L. Heffner of Knoxville; 18 grandchildren; and 11 great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by a son, Carl L. Heffner; and a sister, Gloria Heffner.
Services will be Saturday at noon at First Baptist Church in Brunswick. The Rev. Daniel T. Spiker will officiate. Burial will be in Resthaven Memorial Gardens in Frederick.
The family will receive friends today from 7 to 9 p.m. and Friday from 2 to 4 p.m. and 7 to 9 p.m. at John T. Williams Funeral Home, 100 Petersville Road, Brunswick. The funeral home will be open Friday from 1 p.m.
