Robert C. Swartz
Robert C. "Otzie" Swartz, 90, of 3 Madison Ave., Hagerstown, died Friday, Aug. 13, 1999, at Avalon Manor Nursing Home.
Born July 23, 1909, in Washington County, he was the son of the late Roy Cleveland and Lillian Mae Socks Swartz.
He was employed with Fountain Head Country Club for 13 years, retiring in 1979.
He was a member of VFW No. 1936 and Amvets Post No. 10.
He is survived by three sisters, Catherine Longnecker and Frances McNamee, both of Hagerstown, and Betty Faith of Florida; and nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by four sisters, Viola Williamson, Alice Barnhart, Mary Smith and Madeline Vincent; and a brother, Clarence Swartz.
Services will be Monday at 11 a.m. at Minnich Funeral Home, 415 E. Wilson Blvd., Hagerstown. The Rev. Louis L. Emerick will officiate. Burial will be in Cedar Lawn Memorial Park.
The family will receive friends Sunday from 7 to 9 p.m. at the funeral home.
John D. Stolins
John Downs Stolins, 60, of 17002 Hillsdale Court, Hagerstown, died Friday, Aug. 13, 1999, at his home.
Born Oct. 28, 1938, in Baltimore, he was the son of the late Arthur Breece and Anna Lavinia Pumhrey Stolins.
He attended classes at the University of Maryland.
He was employed by the U.S. Postal Service for 28 years in California and Maryland. He was a mail carrier in the Halfway and Hagerstown areas.
He was a member of Christ Lutheran Church and the church council. He administered communion to church members who were homebound and was a member of the hospital visitation committee.
He served as a volunteer fireman in Ferndale, Md.
He was selected as one of 10 Eagle Scouts from Maryland to attend the World Boy Scout Jamboree in Ontario, Canada.
He coached a Hagerstown Little League team.
He is survived by his wife, June Stolins; four daughters, Connie J. Peacock of Las Vegas, Mary Ann Ahrens of Huntington Beach, Calif., Vicki S. Mehsling of Edgewood, Md., and Kimberly A. Jones of Hagerstown; three sons, Douglas G. Witherington of Vista, Calif., Thomas R. Witherington of Clarksville, Tenn., and John E. Stolins of Clear Spring; two sisters, Carolyn Griffith of Kingsville, Md., and Louise Marshall of Disputanta, Va.; a brother, Arthur Stolins of Huntington Beach; 11 grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren.
A memorial service will be Wednesday at 11 a.m. at Christ Lutheran Church, 216 N. Cleveland Ave., Hagerstown. The Rev. Raymond H. Shriver will officiate.
Private burial will be in Rose Hill Cemetery.
The family will receive friends Wednesday following the memorial service in the church social hall.

Elizabeth A. Hurd
Elizabeth A. "Libby" Hurd of Hurd Road, Hagerstown, died Tuesday, Aug. 10, 1999, at her home.
Born in Pinesburg, she was the daughter of the late Robert Lee and Edith Higgins Null.
Her husband, Charles Edward Hurd, died in 1980.
She was employed by Corning Glass of Greencastle, Pa., and previously with Fashion Lane in Chambersburg, Pa., C.D.C. in Rockville, Md., and Eyerly's department store in Hagerstown.
She was a member of St. Mary's Catholic Church.
She was a member of Ladies Auxiliary of Morris Frock Post 42 American Legion.
She is survived by two daughters, Constance M. Michael and Mildred L. Elia, both of Leitersburg; one sister, Garnetta Corum of Frederick, Md.; three grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by two sisters; and a granddaughter.
Private graveside services will be held at Leitersburg Cemetery.
The Rev. George A. Limmer will officiate. There will be no visitation.

Marguerite L. Barnes
CASCADE, Md. - Marguerite Louise "Maggie" Barnes, 82, of 14646 Rowland Ave., died Sunday, Aug. 8, 1999, at her home.
Born April 6, 1917, in Rouzerville, Pa., she was the daughter of the late Robert Earl and Olia Creager Harbaugh.
She attended Wayne Heights High School.
She volunteered at Waynesboro Senior Center. She had worked at Stanley as a machine operator; and as a waitress at Rossies, FOE, Moose Club and American Legion, Cascade, Md.
She was a member of Rouzerville Church of the Brethren.
She was a member of F.O.E. Moose Club; Cascade American Legion No. 239; Last Woman's Club of Hagerstown; AARP National; and Local Waynesboro Senior Center.
She is survived by a sister, Lizzetta Blanchard; nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by a sister, Rebecca Stuller; and two brothers, Valentine "Pete" Harbaugh and Robert Harbaugh.
Services will be Friday at 2 p.m. at Lochstampfor Funeral Home, South Church and West Second streets, Waynesboro, Pa. The Rev. Lynn Smith will officiate. Burial will be in Harbaugh Church Cemetery, Rouzerville.
Visitation will be today from 7 to 9 p.m. at the funeral home.
Memorial donations may be made to a charity of choice.
William A. Kemp Jr.
William Atlee Kemp Jr., 36, of 921C Washington Ave., Hagerstown, died Tuesday, Aug. 10, 1999, at Washington County Hospital.
Born April 16, 1963, in Hagerstown, he was the son of the late William A. Sr. and Gladys G. Toms Kemp.
He was formerly employed with Leroy Myers Inc.
He is survived by his wife, Laura Ann Kemp; a sister, Patricia A. Barnhart of Hagerstown; a brother, Kenneth W. Kemp of Hagerstown; a half sister, Mildred Day of Great Cappon, W.Va.; four half brothers, Robert Plotner, Gregory Plotner and Vernon Plotner, all of Hagerstown, and Ronald Plotner of Falling Waters, W.Va.; nieces and nephews.
Services will be Saturday at 11 a.m. at Minnich Funeral Home, 415 E. Wilson Blvd., Hagerstown. The Rev. Ernest Thompson will officiate. Burial will be at the convenience of the family.
Visitation will be Friday from 7 to 9 p.m. at the funeral home.
