Beatrice T. Vito
FREDERICK, Md. - Beatrice Taylor Vito, 61, of Frederick, died Monday, Aug. 9, 1999, at her home.
Born March 6, 1938, she was the daughter of Estella Beckner and the late Ira Beckner.
She was office manager at Dairy Maid Dairy in Frederick, where she worked for more than 24 years.
She was a member of Catoctin Episcopal Parish, served on the vestry and as treasurer.
She volunteered with 4-H Therapeutic Riding for the Handicapped and Advocates for the Homeless of Frederick County. She voluntered with the Girl Scouts and received the Thanks Badge for exemplary service.
In addition to her mother, she is survived by one daughter, Tracy Vito Barbour; one son, Steven J. Vito; two sisters, Mary Hairfield and Yvonne Price; one brother, Robert Beckner; five grandchildren; nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by a brother, Michael Beckner.
Services will be Friday at 11 a.m. at Catoctin Episcopal Parish, 12625 Catoctin Furnace Road, Thurmont. The Rev. Fran Stanford will officiate. Burial will be in Resthaven Memorial Gardens, with a reception in the Parish Hall of the church immediately following.
In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to Hospice of Frederick County, Girl Scout Camperships, or Advocates for the Homeless.
Wendell E. Swain
Wendell Eugene Swain, 78, of Spruce Street, Hagerstown, died Monday, Aug. 9, 1999, at Washington County Hospital.
Born Oct. 3, 1920, in Belle Grove, Md., he was the son of the late Herbert James and Amanda Belle Crawford Swain.
He was preceded in death by his first wife, Florence A. Swain.
He was employed by U.S. Silica in Berkeley Springs, W.Va., retiring after 40 years.
He attended Virginia Avenue Baptist Church.
He is survived by his wife, Frances Maxine Swain; a daughter, Janet Golden of Cumberland, Md.; two sons, Eugene Swain of Hagerstown and David Swain of Greencastle, Pa.; two stepdaughters, Kelly Ausherman of Pennsburg, Pa., and Rosie Beers of Greencastle; three sisters, Mildred Klink of Frostburg, Md., Velma Miller of Hagerstown and Wilda Younker of Little Orleans, Md.; two brothers, Lloyd Swain of Needmore, Pa., and Brooks Swain of Belle Grove; and 14 grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by a daughter, Anna Lee McCusker; a sister, Mable Swain; and two brothers, Frank Swain and Elmer Swain.
Services will be Thursday at 11 a.m. at Minnich Funeral Home, 415 E. Wilson Blvd., Hagerstown. The Rev. Richard A. Gross will officiate. Burial will be in Cedar Lawn Memorial Park.
The family will receive friends today from 7 to 9 p.m. at the funeral home.

Margaret L.S. Pickerell
SAN DIEGO - Margaret Louise Schnebly Pickerell, 80, of San Diego, died Thursday, Aug. 5, 1999, in San Diego.
She was born in Hagerstown.
She was a housewife.
She served in the U.S. Navy from 1944 to 1945.
She was a member of United Methodist Women, and American Association of University Women.
She is survived by her husband of 54 years, Walter D. Pickerell; four daughters, Vicki Donovan of Dallas, Texas, Pat Waters of Poway, Calif., Chris Ohana of Bellingham, Wash., and Kate Costantino of Glendale, Ariz.; one sister, Jane Flury of Hagerstown; and 11 grandchildren.
A memorial service will be held Sunday at 1 p.m. at Hope United Methodist Church in San Diego. The Rev. Rob Calderhead will officiate.
In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to American Heart Association.
Arrangements are by Telophase Cremation Society in San Marcos, Calif.
Winnie E. Presgraves
Winnie Elnora Davis Presgraves, 94, formerly of West Wilson Boulevard and Chartridge Drive in Hagerstown died Sunday, Aug. 8, 1999, at Avalon Manor Nursing Home.
Born March 30, 1905, in Shenandoah, Va., she was the daughter of the late Hubert Clinton and Coral Lena Belle Secrist Davis.
She is survived by one sister, Virginia Davis Miller of Knoxville, Tenn.; and two brothers, Wilson Davis and Owen Davis, both of Shenandoah.
She was preceded in death by a daughter, Dorothy Pauline Presgraves Ridenour and one son, Joseph Clinton Presgraves.
A graveside service will be held Wednesday at 2 p.m. at Rest Haven Cemetery, Hagerstown. The Rev. Randy Reid will officiate.
The family requests the omission of flowers.

Josephine M. Lowe
Josephine Marguerite Lowe, 91, of 1183 Luther Drive, and formerly of 11910 Wesley Drive, Hagerstown, died Sunday, Aug. 8, 1999, at Washington County Hospital.
Born April 17, 1908, in Waynesboro, Pa., she was the daughter of the late Roy N. and Mary E. Bender Zimmerman.
She was preceded in death by her husband, William Reid Lowe, in 1994.
She was a member of St. Mark's Lutheran Church and Gleaner Sunday School Class.
She was a member of Queen Ester Chapter 3 Order of Eastern Star.
She is survived by one daughter, Nancy Kay Albright of Hagerstown; four sons, Donald Reid Lowe and Thomas E. Lowe, both of Hagerstown, Charles Nelson Lowe of Smithsburg, and William L. Lowe of Venice, Fla.; one sister, Genevieve Keltner of Chambersburg, Pa.; and nine grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by two sisters, Virginia Snowberger and Inez Cauffman; and one brother, Ralph Zimmerman.
Services will be Wednesday at 11 a.m. at Douglas A. Fiery Funeral Home, 1331 Eastern Blvd. North, Hagerstown. The Rev. Thomas L. Perry will officiate. Burial will be in Rest Haven Cemetery, Hagerstown.
