Edith V. Cooper
Edith V. Cooper, 75, formerly of 54 N. Cannon Ave., died Wednesday, Aug. 4, 1999, at Washington County Hospital.
Born Aug. 10, 1923, in Charles Town, W.Va., she was the daughter of the late Joseph H. and Rachael C. Chapman Mansfield.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Leonard W. Cooper, in 1983.
She had worked at Fairchild Aircraft.
She was a member of Wilson's Chapel in Clear Spring.
She is survived by one son, Randy E. Cooper of Hagerstown.
Services will be Friday at 10 a.m. at Gerald N. Minnich Funeral Home, 305 N. Potomac St. The Rev. Delavene Cunningham will officiate. Burial will be in Union cemetery in Lovettsville, Va.
Visitation will be today from 7 to 9 p.m. at the funeral home.
Luther C. Hart Sr.
BALTIMORE - Luther Calvin Hart Sr., 69, of 309 52nd St., died Tuesday, Aug. 3, 1999, at the University of Maryland Hospital.
He was born Nov. 16, 1929, in Pecktonville, Pa.
He was a truck driver.
He is survived by his wife, Dora A. Weaver Hart; two daughters, Barbara Prescimone and Lea Vergara; three sons, Joseph B. Hart, Luther Calvin Hart Jr. and Ronald K. Hart; four sisters, Dorothy Hart, Frances Hart, Glendora Hart and Isabelle Hart; four brothers, Franklin Hart, Harry Hart, Joseph Hart and Leon Hart; 15 grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren.
Services will be Saturday at 10 a.m. at Duda-Ruck Funeral Home of Dundalk, 7922 Wise Ave., Baltimore. The Rev. William G. Wallace will officiate. Burial will be in Holly Hill Memorial Gardens, 10201 Bird River Road, Middle River, Md.
Visitation will be today and Friday from 3 to 5 p.m. and 7 to 9 p.m. at the funeral home.
Jennifer J. Odom
EL PASO, Texas - Capt. Jennifer Jill Shafer Odom, 29, of 371 Flemish Circle, and formerly of Knoxville, Md., died Friday, July 23, 1999, in a plane crash in Columbia, South America, while on a drug intelligence mission.
Born Feb. 10, 1970, in Frederick, Md., she was the daughter of John A. Jr. and Janie Webber Shafer of Knoxville.
She was a 1988 graduate of Brunswick High School, where she was valedictorian.
She was appointed to the U. S. Military Academy at West Point, graduating in 1992 in the top 25 percent of her class.
She graduated from flight school at Fort Rucker, Ala., in 1993. Her first duty assignment was at Headquarters European Command in Stuttgart, Germany, where she flew more than 100 missions in 40 countries. She flew relief missions in Bosnia-Hertzegovina. In 1995, she took a six-month training course in fixed-wing aviation. In 1997, she took military intelligence officer training at Fort Huachuca, Ariz. She received aircraft transition training in the RC-7 aircraft in Toronto, Canada; then was reassigned to Panama in counter-drug intelligence and flew missions to Central and South America. She was participating in that mission at the time of her death.
She was a member of First Baptist Church in Brunswick, Md.
She was a member and vice president of the National Honor Society; a member of the It's Academic Team; a Distinguished American High School Student; Who's Who, Maryland Distinguished Scholar Finalist; a member of the varsity basketball team; was a Scholar Athlete; and a member of the Drama Club.
In addition to her parents, she is survived by her husband, Lt. Col. (U.S. Army Ret.) Charles F. Odom; two stepsons, Charles J. Odom and Daniel G. Odom, both of El Paso; a brother, Millard Wesley Shafer, at home; maternal grandmother, Rita V. Webber of Brunswick; paternal grandparents, John A. Sr. and M. Frances Shafer of Knoxville; two aunts; an uncle and three cousins.
She was preceded in death by her maternal grandfather, Millard P. Webber and an uncle.
Services will be Saturday at 11 a.m. at First Baptist Church, 3 "A" St., Brunswick. The Revs. Daniel T. Spiker and Andrea Ernest will officiate. Burial will be in St. Mark's Cemetery, Petersville.
The family will receive friends today from 7 to 9 p.m. at the church. Visitation also will be Friday from 9 a.m. to 9 p.m. at the church.

Denton R. Jacques Sr.
EDGEMONT, Md. - Denton R. Jacques Sr., 82, of Jacques Lane, died Tuesday, Aug. 3, 1999, at Washington County Hospital.
Born Sept. 14, 1916, in Smithsburg, he was the son of the late Lancelot and Margaret Nicodemus Jacques Jr.
He owned and operated Edgemont Orchards for 62 years.
He was a member of St. Ann's Episcopal Church in Smithsburg.
He was a member of South Mountain Rod and Gun Club in Smithsburg; Smithsburg Lions Club; American Legion Post No. 211 in Funkstown; and Elks Lodge No. 378 in Hagerstown.
He is survived by his wife, Marguerite Buchanan Jacques; three sons, Denton R. Jacques Jr., John D. Jacques and Brian B. Jacques, all of Smithsburg; six sisters, Jane Dengler of Hyattsville, Md., Mary DeGeorges of McLean, Va., Julia Hayes of Smithsburg, Susan Pines of Limestone, Maine, Ann Oliver of Amelia Island, Fla., and Nancy Jacques of Smithsburg; two brothers, Edgar G. Jacques of Smithsburg and Richard W. Jacques of Frederick, Md.; and four grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by two brothers, Lancelot Jacques III and Samuel A. Jacques.
Services will be Saturday at 2 p.m. at Davis Funeral Home, Smithsburg. The Rev. Elaine Prince will officiate. Burial will be in Smithsburg Cemetery.

Ethel M. Trice
JEFFERSON, Md. - Ethel Margaret Trice, 79, of 3847 Shady Wood Drive, died Wednesday, Aug. 4, 1999, at Frederick Memorial Hospital in Frederick, Md.
Born Dec. 14, 1919, in Petersville, Md., she was the daughter of the late Robert Lee and Ada B. E. Lewis Wenner.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Jake Reed Trice, in 1989.
She was a member of Valley Baptist Church in Middletown, Md. She had taught Sunday school at First Baptist Church in Brunswick, Md.
She was a member of Brunswick Chapter No. 97 Order of the Eastern Star.
She is survived by a daughter, Brenda L. Sheffer of Burkittsville, Md.; a son, Michael Reed Trice of Brunswick; and four grandchildren, Scott Alan Sheffer of Frederick, Robert Daniel Sheffer of Burkittsville, Robert Lee Trice and David Andrew Trice, both of Middletown.
Services will be Saturday at 11 a.m. at Faith Baptist Church, Petersville. The Rev. Michael Knight will officiate. Burial will be in St. Paul's Cemetery, Jefferson.
The family will receive friends Friday from 2 to 4 p.m. and 7 to 9 p.m. at John T. Williams Funeral Home, 970 Petersville Road, Brunswick. Brunswick Chapter No. 97 Order of the Eastern Star will conduct a memorial service Friday at 7:30 p.m. at the funeral home, which will be open from 9 a.m.

Genevieve F. Antonese
Genevieve F. Antonese, 93, of 1424 Outer Drive, Hagerstown, died Monday, Aug. 2, 1999, at Washington County Hospital.
Born June 2, 1906, in Renick, W.Va., she was the daughter of the late Walter Calvert and Elizabeth Cutlip Reinhold.
She was a member of Rock Camp Church in Renick.
She is survived by two daughters, Rosemund Elizabeth Bell and Roselene Alevia Wolfe, both of Hagerstown; two grandchildren; two great-grandchildren; and one great-great-grandchild.
She was preceded in death by two sisters, Alevia Bond and Alviria Henson; and five brothers, Earl Reinhold, Noel Reinhold, James Reinhold, Arnold Reinhold and Quentin Reinhold.
Services will be Friday at 11 a.m. at Douglas A. Fiery Funeral Home, 1331 Eastern Blvd. North, Hagerstown. The Rev. Daris W. Ford will officiate. Burial will be in Rest Haven Cemetery.
