Catherine Margurite Davis
WILLIAMSPORT - Catherine Margurite Davis, 78, of 422 S. Artizan St., died Tuesday, Aug. 3, 1999, at Washington County Hospital in Hagerstown.
Born Sept. 24, 1920, in Hagerstown, she was the daughter of the late Grayson Joseph and Mary Lillian Eyler Grable.
She was a homemaker and had been employed by Washington County Health Department.
She was a member of Virginia Avenue Church of God.
She is survived by her husband, Lester Woodrow Davis of Williamsport, whom she married
in 1940; four daughters, Mary Sprecher of Hagerstown, and Debbie Bond, Linda Patterson and Betty Kendle, all of Williamsport; a sister, Lillian Grable of Washington, D.C.; 11 grandchildren; and 10 great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by a brother, Norman Grayson Grable.
Services will be Friday at 2 p.m. at Osborne Funeral Home, 425 S. Conococheague St., Williamsport. The Rev. A. Paul Harne will officiate. Burial will be in Greenlawn Memorial Park in Williamsport.
Friends may call today from 7 to 9 p.m. at the funeral home, which will be open after 9 a.m.
Yvonne Brown
Yvonne Brown, 63, of 433 Central Ave., Hagerstown, died Wednesday, Aug. 4, 1999, at Washington County Hospital.
Born Aug. 24, 1935, in Hagerstown, she was the daughter of the late Howard McCollum and Zelda Loshbaugh Griffith.
She was formerly employed by Roper Eastern.
She was a member of Harvest Baptist Church.
She is survived by her husband, David Albert Brown; six sons, Robert Miller Jr., Charles Miller, William Miller and David Miller, all of Hagerstown, Roy Miller of Ocean City, Md., and Terry Miller of Seattle; 19 grandchildren; and one great-grandchild.
Services will be Saturday at 11 a.m. at Douglas A. Fiery Funeral Home, 1331 Eastern Blvd. North, Hagerstown. The Rev. James E. Moore will officiate. Burial will be in Cedar Lawn Memorial Park, Hagerstown.
The family will receive friends at the funeral home Friday from 7 to 9 p.m.
Robert L. Shoemaker
Robert Lee Shoemaker, 53, of Williamsport, died Wednesday, Aug. 4, 1999, at Washington County Hospital.
Born April 3, 1946, in Washington County, he was the son of Albert Leon Shoemaker and Dolores Fay Zimmerly Shoemaker, both of Hagerstown.
He owned and operated a trucking business.
In addition to his parents, he is survived by his wife, Linda Shoemaker; one daughter, Robin Lee Patey of Hagerstown; one brother, David Allen Shoemaker of Hagerstown; and two grandchildren.
Services will be Saturday at 11 a.m. at Minnich Funeral Home, 415 E. Wilson Blvd., Hagerstown. The Rev. James L. Hamby will officiate. Burial will be private.
The family will receive friends at the funeral home Friday from 7 to 9 p.m.
Rhoda B. Vantz
HANCOCK - Rhoda Belle Vantz, 85, of West High Street, died Monday, Aug. 2, 1999, at Washington County Hospital.
Born March 21, 1914, in Fulton County, Pa., she was the daughter of the late Reason Ralph and Dora Belle Thompson Younker.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Joseph Guy Vantz, in 1959.
She retired in 1979 from Londontown Manufacturing as a seamstress and had formerly been employed with Jacobs Brothers.
She was a member of Hancock United Methodist Church and United Methodist Women.
She was a member of Hancock Lioness Club; Hancock Historical Society; and Ladies Auxiliary of Webster B. Harrison Post No. 26 American Legion.
She is survived by two daughters, Marsha A. Dyer of Mercersburg, Pa., and Mary Belle Kent of Polk City, Fla.; a sister, Olive C. Powers of Hancock; six grandchildren; eight great-grandchildren; nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by a stepson, Harold Vantz; six sisters, Nannie Suffecool, Linnie Johnson, Amber Pittman, Susie Bishop, Barbara Younker and Irene Younker; and three brothers, Mark Younker, Wade Younker and Edward Younker.
Services will be Thursday at 2 p.m. at Hancock United Methodist Church, 168 W. Main St., Hancock. The Rev. Kenneth McDonald will officiate. Burial will be in Rehobeth United Methodist Cemetery, Tollgate Ridge, Mercersburg.
The family will receive friends today from 2 to 9 p.m. at Grove Funeral Home, 141 W. Main St., Hancock; and Thursday at 1 p.m. at the church.

Eleanor M. Kendle
Eleanor Marie Kendle, 78, of 18010 Putter Drive, Hagerstown, died Monday, Aug. 2, 1999, at Homewood Retirement Center in Williamsport.
Born April 19, 1921, in Washington County, she was the daughter of the late William L. and Vera Crabill Myers.
She retired from Gabriel Industries.
She was a member of Emmanuel United Methodist Church.
She was a member of Hagerstown Senior Citizens.
She is survived by her husband, Lester G. Kendle; one daughter, Deborah Raines of Martinsburg, W.Va.; one son, William L. Kendle of Inwood, W.Va.; one brother, William C. Myers of Hagerstown; three grandchildren; three step granddaughters; and one great-granddaughter.
She was preceded in death by a sister, Geraldine Crumbine.
Services will be Thursday at 1 p.m. at Minnich Funeral Home, 415 E. Wilson Blvd., Hagerstown. The Rev. Dennis L. Upton will officiate. Burial will be in Rose Hill Cemetery.

Nettie M. Cosgrove
FREDERICK, Md. - Nettie Mabel Cosgrove, 78, of 1100 Poplar St., died Monday, Aug. 2, 1999, at Frederick Memorial Hospital.
Born Jan. 22, 1921, in Brunswick, Md., she was the daughter of the late Charles E. and Minnie Stubs Jacobs.
She was preceded in death by two husbands, Robert C. Harding, in 1958; and Charles A. Cosgrove, in 1974.
She owned White Star Lunch on Market Street and White Star Lunch-N-Ette on Motter Avenue, both in Frederick.
She was a member of Flint Hill United Methodist Church in Adamstown, Md.
She is survived by a daughter, Linda K. Summers of Hagerstown; two sons, Thomas E. Harding of Frederick, and John W. Jacobs of Brunswick; a sister, Libby Abrecht of Phoenix; five grandchildren; six great-grandchildren; a cousin; nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by four brothers, Harry Jacobs, Clarence Jacobs, William Jacobs and infant Johnny Walter Jacobs; and an infant sister, Lucille Jacobs.
Services will be Friday at 11 a.m. at Stauffer Funeral Home, 1621 Opossumtown Pike, Frederick. The Rev. Elmer R. Breeden Jr. will officiate. Burial will be in Mount Olivet Cemetery, Frederick.
