Edward J. Miller
Edward Joseph Miller, 69, of Red Oak Drive, Hagerstown, died Friday, July 9, 1999, at Washington County Hospital.
Born Sept. 26, 1929, in Baltimore, he was the son of the late Raymond M. and Theresa M. Dettmer Miller.
He was a retired area engineer for the Maryland State Highway Administration in Washington County. He operated SWEMCO, Inc.
He served in the U.S. Army.
He was a member of St. Joseph's Catholic Church; and was a past usher.
He was a member of Maryland Classified Employees Association; and Knights of Columbus.
He is survived by his wife, Ruth Smith Miller; two daughters, Cecilia R. Miller and Theresa M. Moats, both of Hagerstown; four sons, Edward J. Miller of Salisbury, Md., John F. Miller of Funkstown and George G. Miller and Allan R. Miller, both of Hagerstown; two sisters, Helen M. Kavanagh of Baltimore and Mary M. McGeehay of New Oxford, Pa.; four brothers, Raymond M. Miller Jr., Charles T. Miller, Paul F. Miller and Robert Miller, all of Baltimore; and three grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by a sister, Margaret M. S. Preston.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated Monday at 10 a.m. at St. Joseph's Catholic Church, 17630 Virginia Ave., Hagerstown. The Rev. Christopher Moore will be celebrant. Burial will be in Cedar Lawn Memorial Park in Hagerstown.
The family will receive friends Sunday from 7 to 9 p.m. at Minnich Funeral Home, 415 E. Wilson Blvd., Hagerstown. Prayers will be recited Sunday at 8:30 p.m. at the funeral home.
In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to the charity of one's choice.
Lena G. Gamby
BOONSBORO - Lena Genevieve Gamby, 89, a resident of Fahrney-Keedy Home for the past several months, and formerly of South Carlisle Street, Greencastle, Pa., died Thursday, July 8, 1999, at Washington County Hospital. Before going to Fahrney-Keedy, she lived for the past nine years with her granddaughter, Jan Bare of Boonsboro.
Born Jan. 11, 1910, in Shamokin Dam, Pa., she was the daughter of the late Newton Isaac and Emma Lucetta Kessler Bingaman.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Stanley Victor Gamby, in 1963.
She had worked at the former Gem Garment Company of Greencastle.
She was a member of Trinity Lutheran Church of Greencastle.
She is survived by two sons, Larry Richard Gamby of Hagerstown and Dale Stanley Gamby of Fayetteville, Pa.; five grandchildren, Debra Sue Mills, Susan Joy Bittle, Jan Renee Bare, Verne Nicholas Gamby and Michael Stanley Gamby; 14 great-grandchildren; and a great-great-grandchild.
She was preceded in death by two sisters; two brothers; three half sisters; and two half brothers.
Services will be Monday at 2 p.m. at Harold M. Zimmerman and Son Funeral Home, 45 S. Carlisle St., Greencastle. The Rev. Robert Ridenour will officiate. Burial will be in Parklawns Memorial Gardens, Chambersburg, Pa.
The family will receive friends Monday one hour before the services at the funeral home.
Marilyn A. Sisk
Marilyn A. Sisk, 72, of 12140 Hopewell Road, died Friday, July 9, 1999, at Washington County Hospital.
She was born March 23, 1927, in Windsor, Vt.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Robert J. Sisk.
She is survived by two daughters, Sherry Vidas and Tina Rauth, both of Hagerstown; one son, Roy Sisk Sr. of Hagerstown; four grandchildren; and one great-granddaughter.
She was preceded in death by her grandparents, Mr. and Mrs. Roy H. Gassett, who raised her.
Memorial services will be held Tuesday at 8 p.m. at Minnich Funeral Home, 415 E. Wilson Blvd. The Rev. Alan M. Greijack will officiate. Burial will be at the convenience of the family.
Visitation will be Tuesday at the funeral home from 6 to 8 p.m.
William G. Bissett Jr.
WILLIAMSPORT - William Grant Bissett Jr., 55, of Williamsport, died Thursday, July 8, 1999, at Veteran's Affairs Medical Center, Martinsburg, W.Va.
He was self-employed.
He served in the U.S. Army.
He is survived by his wife, Sigbrit Irene Aberg Bissett; a daughter, Allison P. Bissett of Williamsport; a son, Steven W. Bissett of Williamsport; and two brothers, Harley W. Bissett of Stamford, Conn., and Kenneth E. Bissett of Robbinsville, N.J.
He was preceded in death by a brother, Roger L. Bissett.
Services and burial will be at the convenience of the family.
There will be no viewing.
Arrangements are by Minnich Funeral Home, 415 E. Wilson Blvd., Hagerstown.
Ernest L. Bell
Ernest Linthicum Bell, 88, of Guilford Avenue, Hagerstown, died Tuesday, July 6, 1999, at North Arundel Hospital in Glen Burnie, Md.
Born Oct. 12, 1910, in Dorchester County, Md., he was the son of the late Winnie H. and Erna H. Stephens Bell.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Virginia N. Bell, in 1992.
He retired from Porter Chemical Co. He was employed previously by Fairchild Aircraft.
He served in the U.S. Army during World War II and received the Purple Heart. He also served during the Korean War. He served with the Maryland National Guard.
He was a member of John Wesley United Methodist Church in Hagerstown, and was past president of Wesleyan Sunday School Class.
He is survived by two daughters, Erna Lee Bower of Waynesboro, Pa., and Susan V. Nichols of Severna Park, Md.; two sisters, Evva MacSorley and Mary Ann Heath, both of Seaford, Del.; and five grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by a sister, Georgina Hutchinson; and a brother, Howard Bell.
Services will be Monday at 11 a.m. at Minnich Funeral Home, 415 E. Wilson Blvd., Hagerstown. The Rev. Lynn Trutt will officiate. Burial will be in Rose Hill Cemetery, Hagerstown.
The family will receive friends Monday at 10 a.m. at the funeral home.

Helen I. Myers
Helen Irene Myers, 94, of 448 E. First St., Hagerstown, died Thursday, July 8, 1999, at Ravenwood Lutheran Village, Hagerstown.
Born March 10, 1905 in Martinsburg, W.Va., she was the daughter of the late Josephus and May Baker Marshall.
She was preceded in death by her husband of 55 years, Theodore M. Myers, in 1977.
She was founder and owner of The Hagerstown Block Co.
She was a member of Hagerstown Bible Church and Adult Ladies Bible Class.
She is survived by five daughters, Anna Irene Swartz, Doris Durbin, Beatrice Lowry and Gloria Sneckenberger, all of Hagerstown, and Delores Sowers of Smithsburg; two sons, Vernon Myers and Theodore Wayne Myers, both of Hagerstown; two sisters, Ethel Dunham and Annie Beavers, both of Martinsburg; 25 grandchildren, 58 great-grandchildren and six great-great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by a daughter, Joyce Hill; a son, James J. Myers; four brothers, Frank Marshall, Ernest Marshall, Gardner Marshall and William Ray Marshall.
Services will be Monday at 2 p.m. at Minnich Funeral Home, 415 E. Wilson Blvd., Hagerstown. The Revs. Dale R. Carver and Gerald Carbaugh will officiate. Burial will be in Rose Hill Cemetery.
The family will receive friends Sunday from 6 to 9 p.m. at the funeral home.
