Esther M. Gamperl
SHARPSBURG - Esther May Gamperl, 88, of West Main Street, died Sunday, June 20, 1999, at her home.
Born Jan. 26, 1911, in Sharpsburg, she was the daughter of the late Augustus Asbury and Nettie May Hetzel Hebb.
She was preceded in death by her husband, John Gamperl, in 1976.
She was a homemaker.
She was a member of Holy Trinity Lutheran Church, Sharpsburg.
She was a member of Sharpsburg Volunteer Fire Company Ladies Auxiliary.
She is survived by a son, Carl H. "Jack" Hebb at home; a brother, Theodore H. "Ted" Hebb Sr. of Frederick, Md.; nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by two sisters, Margaret Starliper and Pearl Kipe; and two brothers, James Hebb and Frederick Hebb.
Services will be Wednesday at 11 a.m. at Osborne Funeral Home, 425 S. Conococheague St., Williamsport. The Rev. Blaine Feightner will officiate. Burial will be in Mountain View Cemetery, Sharpsburg.
Friends may call Tuesday from 7 to 9 p.m. at the funeral home. The funeral home will be open Tuesday after 9 a.m. for the convenience of family and friends.

Rachel R. Longnecker
CHEWSVILLE - Rachel R. Longnecker, 82, of Chewsville, died Friday, June 18, 1999, at her home.
Born Dec. 16, 1916, in Wolfsville, she was the daughter of the late Simon P. and Mollie M. Lewis Eccard.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Robert E. Longnecker, in 1988.
She was a life member of Bethel United Methodist Church, Chewsville.
She is survived by a son, Robert E. Longnecker Jr. of Chewsville; a sister, Maude Eccard Kent of Smithsburg; a nephew, Glenn Eccard Jr., whom she raised; two granddaughters; a great-granddaughter; nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by a sister, Pauline Spessard; and five brothers, Fred Eccard, Glenn Eccard, Ralph Eccard, Simon Eccard and Allen Eccard.
Services will be Wednesday at 11 a.m. at Davis Funeral Home, Smithsburg. The Rev. John Schildt will officiate. Burial will be in Mount Bethel United Methodist Church Cemetery, Foxville.
The family will receive friends Tuesday from 7 to 9 p.m. at the funeral home.

Nelle A. Geary
FREDERICK, Md. - Nelle A. Geary, 88, of Taney Avenue, died Saturday, June 19, 1999, at Frederick Memorial Hospital, Frederick.
Born May 28, 1911, in Mercersburg, Pa., she was the daughter of the late Dr. Granville Moody and Ida Marie Stoner Brubaker.
She was preceded in death by her husband, E. Eugene Geary, in 1986.
She was a 1932 graduate of Washington County Hospital School of Nursing.
She was employed by Washington County Hospital.
She was a member of St. Mary's Catholic Church; and attended St. John's Catholic Church in Frederick.
She is survived by a daughter, Susanne Holley Geary of Ijamsville, Md.; a brother, Garnet Mark Brubaker of Severna Park, Md.; four grandchildren, Geary Patrick "Rick" Holley and Daniel William Holley, both of Ijamsville, Ann Reeves of Frederick and Mary Hunsinger of Newville, Pa.; six great-grandchildren; and a niece.
She was preceded in death by a son, Edward Eugene Geary Jr., in 1960.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated Tuesday at 9:30 a.m. at St. Mary's Catholic Church, 226 W. Washington St., Hagerstown. The Rev. Jack Fullen will be celebrant. Burial will be in Rose Hill Cemetery.

Lavalette I. Butler
Lavalette Imogene Butler, 90, formerly of 717 Sunset Ave., Hagerstown, died Friday, June 18, 1999, at Williamsport Nursing Home.
Born July 23, 1908, in Breathedsville, Md., she was the daughter of the late Edward Benton and Goldie Forrest Showe McNamee.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Thomas Morgan Butler.
She was a homemaker.
She was a member of St. Mark's Episcopal Church at Lappans.
She is survived by a brother, William R. McNamee Sr. of Hagerstown; three grandchildren; a great-granddaughter; nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by a son, William Edward Butler; three sisters, Josephine Warrenfeltz, Isabel Shervin and Hilda McNamee; and two brothers, Lee McNamee and Robert J. McNamee.
Services will be Tuesday at 11 a.m. at St. Mark's Episcopal Church, 18313 Lappans Road, Boonsboro. The Rev. Anne O. Weatherholt will officiate. Burial will be in the adjoining church cemetery.

Edith C. Harrison
Edith Corilla Harrison, 84, of 17307 W. Washington St., Hagerstown, died Thursday, June 17, 1999, at her home.
Born Oct. 29, 1914, in Hagerstown, she was the daughter of the late Charles E. and Bessie U. Baker Smith.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Roy William Harrison, in 1978.
She was a member of Jehovah's Witnesses.
She is survived by a daughter, Joyce C. Shumaker of Hagerstown; a stepson, Evan Harrison of Winchester, Va.; two grandchildren; five step grandchildren; and nieces, nephews and cousins.
She was preceded in death by a stepdaughter, Catherine M. Sagi; a stepson, Kenneth Harrison; a sister, Margaret G. Bostetter; and three brothers, Cecil B. Smith, Victor Leroy Smith and Joseph W. Smith.
Services will be Tuesday at 2 p.m. at Douglas A. Fiery Funeral Home, 1331 Eastern Blvd. North, Hagerstown. The Rev. Byrl Shaver will officiate. Burial will be in Beaver Creek Cemetery, Beaver Creek.

SHARPSBURG - Patricia Ann "Patty" Poffenberger, 42, of Sharpsburg, died Thursday, June 17, 1999, at University of Maryland Hospital, Baltimore.
Born July 14, 1956, in Martinsburg, W.Va., she was the daughter of James and Anne Allen Kirby of Williamsport.
She was a 1974 graduate of Williamsport High School.
She was a homemaker.
She was a member of Tri-State Church of God, Boonsboro.
She also was a member of Antietam Post 236 American Legion, Sharpsburg.
In addition to her parents, she is survived by her husband, Robert E. Poffenberger, whom she married
Nov. 8, 1975; one daughter, Angela P. Dickens of Sharpsburg; two sisters, Linda K. Pierce and Myrna K. Murphy, both of Williamsport; three brothers, James Kirby of Hagerstown, David Kirby of Falling Waters, W.Va., and Joseph Kirby of Marlowe, W.Va.; two grandchildren; and nieces and nephews.
Services will be held Monday at 2 p.m. at Bast Funeral Home, 7606 Old National Pike, Boonsboro. The Rev. Jerry Carpenter will officiate. Burial will be in Mountain View Cemetery, Sharpsburg.
