Leon C. Vaughn
Leon C. "Big Bubba" Vaughn, 50, of Leitersburg Pike, Hagerstown, died Sunday, May 16, 1999, at Washington County Hospital.
Born Sept. 12, 1948, in Hagerstown, he was the son of the late Leon C. Vaughn Jr. and Kathleen Martin Vaughn.
He was employed by Talley Metal Products in Hagerstown.
A veteran of the Vietnam War, he served in the U.S. Army.
He is survived by his wife, Linda K. Collins Vaughn; one daughter, Tammy S. Parsons of Shade Gap, Pa.; two sons, John W. Vaughn of Leitersburg and Robert E. Vaughn of Hagerstown; one sister, Martha Godlove of Hagerstown; and five grandchildren.
Services will be Thursday at 10:30 a.m. at Davis Funeral Home, Smithsburg. The Rev. John C. Koontz Jr. will officiate. Burial will be in Ringgold Cemetery.
The family will receive friends Wednesday from 7 to 9 p.m. at the funeral home.
Dorothy E. Kepler
Dorothy Elaine Kepler, 84, of Julia Manor Health Care Center, Hagerstown, and formerly of 17522 Lincolnshire Road, Hagerstown, died Thursday, May 13, 1999, at the center.
Born May 13, 1915, in Catawba, Va., she was the daughter of the late Laban P. and Flora Aliff Thomas.
Her husband, Harold M. Kepler, died in 1992.
She was a homemaker.
She was a member of Mount Nebo United Methodist Church in Boonsboro.
She is survived by nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by one son, Gregory Kepler; and one sister, Pauline Pinson.
Services will be Wednesday at 2 p.m. at Bast Funeral Home, 7606 Old National Pike, Boonsboro. The Rev. John W. Zsittnik will officiate. Burial will be in Boonsboro Cemetery, Boonsboro.
The family will receive friends at the funeral home Wednesday at 1 p.m.
Ethel A. Johnson
Ethel A. Johnson, 92, of 55 E. Washington St., Hagerstown, died Friday, May 14, 1999, at Washington County Hospital.
Born Sept. 27, 1906, in Martinsburg, W.Va., she was the daughter of the late Benjamin M. and Laura Augusta Seckman Eppard.
She is survived by two sisters, Edith Edwards of Richmond, Va., and Frances Williams of Kissimmee, Fla.; a brother, Robert S. Eppard of Martinsburg; nieces; nephews; great-nieces; great-nephews; great-great-nieces; great-great-nephews; great-great-great-nieces; and great-great-great-nephews.
As were her wishes, her body was donated to the State of Maryland Anatomy to be used for medical education and research.
Janet M. Arkins
SYRACUSE, N.Y. - Janet M. Mack Arkins, 81, of Syracuse, and formerly of Hagerstown, died Friday, May 15, 1999, at St. Camillus Health and Rehabilitation Center.
She was born in Auburn, N.Y.
Her husband, James Arkins, died in 1993.
She graduated from Cathedral Academy and Powelson Business School in Syracuse.
She worked for the Department of Agriculture and the Department of the Army in the United States and Japan. She retired from Fort Detrick in Frederick, Md., in 1977.
She was a member of St. Joseph's Church in Hagerstown.
She was a member of Funkstown American Legion Auxiliary.
She is survived by two stepdaughters, Diane Gordon of Hagerstown, and Anne Marie Murphy of Norwalk, Conn.; two stepsons, James Arkins Jr. of Buffalo, N.Y., and Joseph Arkins of Geneva, N.Y.; two brothers, John L. Mack of Boynton Beach, Fla., Joseph J. Mack of Westvale, N.Y., and Robert W. Mack of Syracuse; and seven grandchildren.
Services will be private. Burial will be in Arlington National cemetery in Arlington.
There will be no visitation.

Mildred R. Weller
FUNKSTOWN - Mildred Ruth Weller, 74, of Funkstown, died Thursday, May 13, 1999, at Washington County Hospital, Hagerstown.
Born March 25, 1925, in Williamsport, she was the daughter of the late Charles Edward and Gladys Bolitho Brandt.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Wayne Victor Weller, in 1975.
She retired in 1987 from Maryland Ribbon Co. as a blocker.
She was a member of St. Paul's Lutheran Church, Funkstown.
She was a member of Funkstown American Legion Post 211 Auxiliary.
She is survived by one daughter, Vicki Spielman Eccard of Falling Waters, W.Va.; one son, Michael Wayne Weller of Smithsburg; two sisters, Marian Wade of Hagerstown and Dorothy Lovell of State Line, Pa.; one brother, C. William Brandt of Hagerstown; four grandchildren, four great-grandchildren; and a friend, Jack Showe of Hagerstown.
She was preceded in death by one sister, Evelyn Fair, and two brothers, Robert Brandt and Harold Brandt.
Services will be today at 11 a.m. at Osborne Funeral Home, 425 S. Conococheague St., Williamsport. The Rev. Darrell L. Layman will officiate. Burial will be in Greenlawn Memorial Park, Williamsport.
The family will receive friends today at 10 a.m. The funeral home will be open today after 9 a.m.

Dorothy D. Bell
FRANKLIN, Tenn. - Dorothy Daniels Bell, 81, of Franklin, died Sunday, May 16, 1999, at her home.
She was born in Cumberland, Md.
Her husband, Oscar Bell, preceded her in death.
She was a homemaker.
She was a member of Walker Memorial Baptist Church, and a former member of Calvary Brethren Church.
She is survived by one daughter, Janet Ott of Franklin, Tenn.; two sons, the Rev. Richard Bell of Winchester, Va., and the Rev. William Bell of Ashland, Ohio; one sister, Marie Easton of Cumberland; two brothers, Charles Daniels of Virginia Beach, Va., and George Daniels of Hagerstown; and six grandchildren.
Services will be Wednesday at 11 a.m. at Williamson Memorial Funeral Home in Franklin. The Rev. Jerry Batts will officiate. Burial will be in Williamson Memorial Gardens.
The family will receive friends at the funeral home today from 6 to 9 p.m., and one hour prior to the service Wednesday.

BRUNSWICK, Md. - Joseph Jacoby Thee and Jeffrey Alan Thee, infant sons of Jamie A. and Tina M. Thee of 507 Walnut St., died Sunday, May 16, 1999, at Frederick Memorial Hospital, Frederick, Md.
They were born Sunday, May 16, 1999.
In addition to their parents, they are survived by paternal grandparents, Clyde and Linda Thee of Brunswick; maternal grandmother, Judy Bensel of Point of Rocks, Md.; paternal great-grandmother, Virginia Lowery of Brunswick; maternal great-grandfather, Charles F. Goss of Lucketts, Va.; maternal great-grandmothers, Katherine Summers of Point of Rocks and Mae Miller of Lucketts; two aunts and one uncle.
Services will be Wednesday at 11 a.m. at Resthaven Memorial Gardens in Frederick. The Rev. Douglas May will officiate. Burial will be in Resthaven Memorial Gardens in Frederick.
