Francis W. Whitehead Sr.
FORT PIERCE, Fla. - Francis Willard Whitehead Sr., 86, of Fort Pierce, died Wednesday, May 12, 1999.
Born in Hampton, Tenn., he was the son of the late Lloyd and Hattie Whitehead.
He owned and operated Whitie's Diner in Winchester, Va., during the early 1940s, and owned and operated Whitie's Grocery Store in West Palm Beach, Fla., from 1947 to 1961. He retired from the City of Hagerstown as a certified chief water plant operator in 1974.
He served in the U.S. Army.
He was of the Pentecostal faith.
He is survived by his wife, Thelma Whitehead of Fort Pierce, Fla.; two daughters, Carol Jean McMillan of Enid, Okla., and Patricia Lois Mackereth of Hagerstown; two sons, Francis Willard Whitehead Jr. of Greencastle, Pa., and Lloyd David Whitehead of Hagerstown; two sisters, Georgie and Linda; one brother, Dewey Whitehead; eight grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by one sister, Flora; and one brother, Huey Whitehead.

Sharon A. Topper
EMMITSBURG, Md. - Sharon Ann Danner Topper, 43, of East Main Street, died Thursday, May 13, 1999, at Johns Hopkins Bay View, Baltimore.
Born Nov. 4, 1955, in Gettysburg, Pa., she was the daughter of George L. and Nancy R. Gerken Danner Jr. of Emmitsburg.
Her husband, Thomas Lawrence Topper, died in 1998.
She was a 1973 graduate of St. Joseph's High School in Emmitsburg, and a 1977 graduate of Mount Saint Mary's College.
She was assistant to the dean of undergraduate studies at Mount Saint Mary's College in Emmitsburg.
She was a member of St. Joseph's Roman Catholic Church in Emmitsburg.
She was a member of Vigilant Hose Co. Auxiliary and Ladies of Brute Council 1860, both in Emmitsburg; Sodality of the Blessed Virgin Mary; and a C.Y.A. Cheerleader Coach.
In addition to her parents, she is survived by two children, Alison A. Topper and Lindsay A. Topper, both of Emmitsburg; one brother, Mike Danner of Emmitsburg; and nieces and nephews.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated Monday at 11 a.m. at St. Joseph's Roman Catholic Church in Emmitsburg, with the Rev. Michael J. Kennedy as principal celebrant. Burial will be in New St. Joseph's cemetery in Emmitsburg.
Friends may call at Skiles Funeral Home in Emmitsburg, Sunday from noon to 9 p.m., where a Rosary will be recited at 8 p.m.

James W. Wilfong
James W. Wilfong, 67, of Hagerstown, died Wednesday, May 12, 1999, at Washington County Hospital.
Born March 30, 1932, in Randolph County, W.Va., he was the son of the late Denzil and Nellie Harris Wilfong.
He was a retired truck driver.
A U.S. Army veteran, he served during the Korean War.
He was a member of American Legion Post 21 in Winchester, Va., Fraternal Order of Eagles Post 694 in Hagerstown and a member of AMVETS.
He is survived by four sons, Ronald L. Wilfong of Romney, W.Va., Kenneth J. Wilfong of Harpers Ferry, W.Va., Dwain E. Wilfong and Thomas M. Wilfong, both of Augusta, W.Va.; three sisters, Mary Hudson of Clearbrook, Va., Edith Armel of Stephens City, Va., and Edna Webster of Winchester; four brothers, Cecil Wilfong of High View, W.Va., Jack Wilfong of Pittsburgh, Randy Wilfong and Scott Wilfong, both of Winchester; eight grandchildren; and one great-grandchild.
Services will be held today at 8:30 p.m. at Giffin Funeral Home, Capon Bridge, W.Va. David Bradfield will officiate. Entombment will be in Rest Haven Cemetery, Hagerstown.
The family will receive friends today from 7 to 8:30 p.m. at the funeral home.
Paul M. Beachley
MYERSVILLE, Md. - Paul Milburn Beachley, 72, of Myersville, died Friday, May 14, 1999, at his home.
Born Feb. 16, 1927, in Broad Run, Md., he was the son of the late Charles Dewey and Minnie Nash Beachley.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Dorothy Harp Beachley, in 1993.
He worked at Fort Detrick and retired from the National Bureau of Standards and Technology.
He was a member of Amvets Post No. 9, Middletown, Md.
He is survived by a son, Donald Beachley of Hagerstown; three daughters, Paula Hatcher of Myersville, Brenda Ahalt of Middletown and Beverly Grimes of Braddock Heights, Md.; two sisters, Doris Shaffer of Imper, Pa., and Pat Shank of Frederick, Md.; three brothers, Charles Beachley of Falling Waters, W.Va., Emmett Beachley of Jefferson, Md., and Jim Beachley of Creagersville, Md.; grandchildren; a great-grandchild; and nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by a brother, Albert Beachley.
Services will be Monday at 2 p.m. at Mount Zion United Methodist Church in Myersville. The Rev. Norm Kemerer will officiate. Burial will be in the adjoining church cemetery.
The family will receive friends Sunday from 7 to 9 p.m. at Ricketts Funeral Home, 504 Main St., Myersville. Visitation also will be Monday one hour before the services at the church.

Edwin F. Nikirk II
IJAMSVILLE, Md. - Edwin Frederick "Ed" Nikirk II, 55, of 10504 Brenda Ave., died Wednesday, May 12, 1999, at Frederick (Md.) Memorial Hospital.
Born Jan. 18, 1944, in Frederick, he was the son of Edwin F. Nikirk I and Dorothy Hahn Nikirk of Frederick.
He was a 1962 graduate of Frederick High School. He attended the University of Maryland's School of Engineering and graduated from the University of Baltimore. He graduated cum laude from the University of Baltimore School of Law in 1970.
He served in the U.S. Army Reserve.
He joined his father in the practice of law in 1970. After his brother Thomas joined the firm in 1974, it became Nikirk, Nikirk and Nikirk. He was in private practice from 1989.
He was a member of the Frederick County, Maryland State and American Bar Associations; Association of Trial Lawyers of America; Frederick County Criminal Defense Bar Association; Maryland Trial Lawyers Association; and Frederick County Association of Plaintiffs Lawyers.
He was a member of Train Collectors Association; Airplane Owners and Pilots Association; and a former member of the board of directors of First National Bank.
He was a former member of Evangelical Lutheran Church of Frederick; and attended Monocacy Valley Church, Frederick.
In addition to his parents, he is survived by his wife, Dona Stouffer Nikirk; a son, Edwin F. Nikirk III of Myersville, Md.; two stepsons, David M. Sapp and Jason A. Sapp, both of Frederick; a brother, Thomas C. Nikirk of Knoxville, Md.; four grandchildren; aunts and cousins.
Services will be Monday at 10 a.m. at Evangelical Lutheran Church, 33 E. Church St., Frederick. The Revs. Mark Vander Meer and W. Phillip Fogarty will officiate. Burial will be in Mount Olivet Cemetery, Frederick.
Friends may call Sunday from noon to 9 p.m. at Keeney and Basford Funeral Home, 106 E. Church St., Frederick. The family will receive friends Sunday from 2 to 4 p.m. and 7 to 9 p.m. at the funeral home.

Frank O. Davidson
Frank Oscar Davidson, 81, of 20029 Leitersburg Pike, Hagerstown, died Thursday, May 13, 1999, at his home.
Born March 27, 1918, in Weathersfield, Vt., he was the son of the late Leslie and Elsie Hurst Davidson.
He owned and operated Davidson Co. until his retirement.
A veteran of World War II, he served in the U.S. Navy.
He was a member of Long Meadow Church of the Brethren.
He was former treasurer of Full Gospel Business Men's Association.
He is survived by his wife of 49 years, Kathleen Lucille Davidson; three daughters, Kimberly J. Burch and Sandra L. Needy, both of Hagerstown, and Sheila D. Rogers of Aiken, S.C.; a sister, Marion D. Todd of California; two brothers, James E. Davidson of New York and Guy Davidson of New Hampshire; nine grandchildren; and 11 great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by a son, Duane Frank Davidson.
Services will be Saturday at 2 p.m. at Douglas A. Fiery Funeral Home, 1331 Eastern Blvd. North, Hagerstown. Burial will be in Cedar Lawn Memorial Park, Hagerstown.
The family will receive friends today from 7 to 9 p.m. at the funeral home.
