Edwin G. Laing
HERMOSA BEACH, Calif. - Edwin G. "Sea Weed" Laing, 89, of 745 Loma Drive, formerly of 739 Stouffer Ave., Chambersburg, Pa., died Monday, May 3, 1999, at the home of his daughter with whom he lived.
Born March 26, 1910, in New York City, he was the son of the late Edwin G. Sr. and Jeannette Fitzgerald Laing.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Jean E. Pilmer Laing, in 1995.
He was a graduate of Miami High School in Miami, Fla.
He retired in 1978 from Letterkenny Army Depot in Chambersburg, where he worked as a clerk supervisor.
He was a veteran of the U.S. Navy, serving aboard the USS Merak during World War II.
He was a member of Central Presbyterian Church in Chambersburg.
He was a former commander of Chambersburg Area Joint Veterans Council; a life member and past commander of Charles M. Nitterhouse Post 1599 Veterans of Foreign Wars, Chambersburg; a member of Detrich-Brechbill American Legion Post 612, St. Thomas, Pa.; a member of Burt J. Asper American Legion Post 46, Chambersburg; a member of Anchor Lodge F&AM, Plainfield, N.J.; a past royal deputy of Order of Scottish Clans, State of New Jersey; a member of Clan MacKenzie of Plainfield; and organized Cumberland Valley Thistle Club, Chambersburg.
He is survived by one daughter, Bonnie Schroeder of Hermosa Beach; one son, Garry T. Laing of Hagerstown; one sister, Helen Kellogg of Guntersville, Ala.; one brother, William D. Laing of Brisbane, Australia; one grandson; three step grandchildren; and three step great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by one brother, Charles Laing.
Services will be Saturday at 2:30 p.m. at Thomas L. Geisel Funeral Home, 333 Falling Spring Road, Chambersburg. The Rev. John W. Ailstock will officiate. Burial will be in Parklawns Memorial Gardens, Chambersburg. Military graveside services will be conducted by members of Charles M. Nitterhouse Post 1599 VFW Honor Guard.
Visitation will be at the funeral home Saturday from 1:30 to 2:30 p.m.

Winifred K. LaRue
Winifred K. "Winnie" LaRue, 72, of Rippon, W.Va., died Monday, May 3, 1999, at her home.
Born Oct. 10, 1926, in Winchester, Va., she was the daughter of Denzil Kackley of Berryville, Va., and the late Ruby Rutherford Kackley.
She was a 1945 graduate of Clarke County (Va.) High School.
She was assistant postmaster at the U.S. Post Office in Rippon, W.Va., for 20 years.
She was a member of St. John's Episcopal Church in Rippon, the Women's Auxiliary, and church choir.
She also was a member of Homemaker's Extension Club.
In addition to her father, she is survived by her husband of 53 years, James Warren LaRue; one daughter, Carol Davids of Indialantic, Fla.; one son, James C. LaRue of Rippon, W.Va.; three brothers, Raymond Kackley of Winchester, Charles Kackley of Berryville, Va., and Lawrence Kackley of Woodbridge, Va.; six grandchildren; nieces and nephews.
Services will be held Friday at 1 p.m. at St. John's Episcopal Church in Rippon. The Rev. Jane Kempster and the Rev. Victor Lawson will officiate. Burial will be in Pleasant View Memory Gardens in Martinsburg.
Friends will be received at Melvin T. Strider Colonial Funeral Home in Charles Town, Thursday from 7 to 9 p.m.

Ellen L. Thygesen
BOONSBORO - Ellen LeRoi Thygesen, 95, of Dunrovin Farm, died Monday, April 26, 1999, at Ravenwood Lutheran Village in Hagerstown.
Born Sept. 8, 1903, in Frankfurt, Germany, she was the daughter of the late Otto and Julietta Abecassis LeRoi.
Her husband, Thorolf Thygessen, died in 1980. They were married
in 1938.
She moved to the United States in 1941, and she and her husband began farming Dunrovin Farm near Boonsboro. She managed the property following her husband's death, until she became a resident of Ravenwood Lutheran Village.
She spent her childhood in Germany, Portugal and England, and attended Buck Hill School for Girls in Sussex, England.
She was educated in and worked in the care and education of young children, taking special interest in those with disabilities.
She volunteered with Washington County Hospital Auxiliary, Red Cross and Girl Scouts of America.
She is survived by one sister, Vera LeRoi of Dornach, Switzerland; three grandchildren, Christopher, Nina and Ellen, all of Norway; and five great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by one daughter, Karin Hostmalingen; and one brother, Alexandre LeRoi.
A memorial service will be held Sunday at 2 p.m. at Andrew K. Coffman Funeral Home, 40 E. Antietam St., Hagerstown.
The family will receive friends at the funeral home 30 minutes prior to the service.
Ruth M. Kinsey
SMITHSBURG - Ruth M. Kinsey, 90, of East Water Street, died Monday, May 3, 1999, at Coffman Nursing Home in Hagerstown.
Born Sept. 8, 1908, in Wolfsville, Md., she was the daughter of the late Keller R. and Maude H. Bear Kline Sr.
Her husband, Robert L. Kinsey, died in 1969. They were married
July 5, 1929.
She was employed by Waynesboro Knitting Mill for 40 years, retiring in 1969.
She was a member of Trinity Lutheran Church in Smithsburg, Mary and Martha Sunday School Class, and Wednesday Circle.
She also was a member of Smithsburg Historical Society and AARP.
She is survived by five nephews, Richard Geiser, Ronald Kline, Steven Kline, Richard Eakle and Kelly Eakle.
She was preceded in death by five sisters, Mary Anderson, Ima Kline, Pearl Leaman, Page Wolfgram, Irene Eakle; and one brother, Keller Kline Jr.
Services will be held Thursday at 2 p.m. at Davis Funeral Home in Smithsburg. Pastor Mark Walters will officiate. Burial will be in Smithsburg Cemetery.
Friends may call at the funeral home today from 7 to 9 p.m.

Enid V. Lardizabal
Enid VanderHave Lardizabal, 65, of 13302 Unger Road, Hagerstown, and formerly of Lodi, N.J., died Monday, May 3, 1999, at Washington County Hospital.
Born May 29, 1933, in Lodi, she was the daughter of Mary Lapchak VanderHave of Lodi and the late T. John VanderHave.
She served as secretary-treasurer for Dr. Lardizabal Inc. Medical Practice.
She was a member of the Maryland Historical Society; Washington County Historical Society; and Bergen County, N.J., Historical Society.
She is survived by her husband of 43 years, Dr. Evaristo Ramos Lardizabal; four daughters, Eileen M. Lardizabal of Kentwood, La., Susan M. Cronier of Hurley, Miss., Dr. Mary Beth Lardizabal of Lubec, Maine, and Lisa A. Lardizabal of Hagerstown; a sister, Janice VanderHave of Lodi; three brothers, Nicholas VanderHave of Morris Plains, N.J., Peter VanderHave of Pompton Lakes, N.J., and John VanderHave of Parsippany, N.J.; and five grandchildren.
Graveside services will be Friday at 10 a.m. at Lodi Cemetery, Lodi. The Rev. George Van Sandt will officiate.
The family will receive friends today from 7 to 9 p.m. at Douglas A. Fiery Funeral Home, 1331 Eastern Blvd. North, Hagerstown.

Leonard T. Reese
Leonard Thomas Reese, 77, of 344 Henry Ave., Hagerstown, died Monday, May 3, 1999, at Washington County Hospital.
Born Aug. 18, 1921, in Emporia, Va., he was the son of the late Josie and Joe Willie Reese.
He attended school in Emporia.
He retired from Kettler Brothers of Gaithersburg, Md.
He is survived by a daughter, Jacqueline Davis of Providence, R.I.; a son, Charles Douglas of Petersburg, Va.; and seven stepchildren, Tyrone Stanton, Reginald Scott Jr., Christopher Scott, Ruby A. Barnett, Regina A. Mason, Tracy Y. Brown and Toy L. Trent, all of Hagerstown.
He was preceded in death by a sister, Sally Lee Reese; and a brother, Matthew Reese.
Services will be Friday at 1 p.m. at Watson Funeral Home, 24 W. Bethel St., Hagerstown. The Rev. Joseph Fowlkes will officiate. Burial will be in Rose Hill Cemetery.
Visitation will be Friday one hour before the services at the funeral home.
