Services for Lucy J. Pendleton, 76, of 325 Henry Ave., who died Wednesday, April 21, 1999, will be today at noon at Calvary Apostolic Church, 350 N. Jonathan St., Hagerstown. District Elder Fred McCoy will officiate. Burial will be in Rose Hill Cemetery.
Visitation will be today at 11 a.m. at the church.
Arrangements are by Gerald N. Minnich Funeral Home, 305 N. Potomac St., Hagerstown.
Esther E. Hartman
SMITHSBURG - Esther E. Hartman, 87, of North Main Street, died Thursday, April 22, 1999, at Washington County Hospital.
Born in Smithsburg, she was the daughter of the late Martin L. and Alice M. Brown Smith.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Chester E. Hartman, in 1983.
She is survived by a daughter, Jean H. Sax of Hagerstown; two sisters, Louise Hahn and Jean Codori, both of Edgemont, Md.; a brother, Robert Smith of Hagerstown; a grandson; and a great-grandson.
She was preceded in death by a sister, Sylvia A. Toms; and two brothers, John Smith and Bruce Smith.
Services will be Monday at 3 p.m. at Davis Funeral Home, Smithsburg. The Rev. John W. Schildt will officiate. Burial will be in Pleasant Valley Cemetery, Smithsburg.
The family will receive friends Monday one hour before the services at the funeral home.
Mary Ann Wolfe
Mary Ann Wolfe, infant daughter of Barbara Ann Ridenour and John Harvey Wolfe, of 14 S. Locust St., Hagerstown, died Wednesday, April 21, 1999, at Washington County Hospital.
In addition to her parents, she is survived by two sisters, Shannon Ridenour and Kendra M. Ridenour, both at home; two brothers, Michael L. Ridenour and Justin L. Ridenour, both at home; paternal grandparents, John R. and Caroline G. Wolfe of Hagerstown; maternal grandfather, Edgel L. Moore Jr. of Hagerstown; and aunts, uncles and cousins.
She was preceded in death by her maternal grandmother, Frances L. Moore.
Services will be Monday at 11 a.m. at Douglas A. Fiery Funeral Home, 1331 Eastern Blvd. North, Hagerstown. The Rev. Betty Jones will officiate. Burial will be in Cedar Lawn Memorial Park.
The family will receive friends Monday one hour before the services at the funeral home.
Richard D. Morris
Richard Donald Morris, 61, of 30 E. North Ave., Hagerstown, died Thursday, April 22, 1999, at his home.
Born July 5, 1937, in Bluefield, Va., he was the son of Richard G. Morris of Los Angeles, and the late Edith Baldwin Morris Wingfield.
In addition to his father, he is survived by two sons, Ronald Morris and David Wayne Morris; and one sister, Nedra Eloise Vargas of Princeton, W.Va.
He was preceded in death by one brother, Charles Alexander Morris.
Services will be at the convenience of the family. There will be no viewing.

Virginia E. Bittinger
SMITHSBURG - Virginia E. "Ginny" Bittinger, 59, of Cristy Avenue, died Thursday, April 22, 1999, at Washington County Hospital.
Born May 20, 1939, in Clear Spring, she was the daughter of the late Clyde L. and Gladys Dickerhoff Bartles.
She was a 1957 graduate of Clear Spring High School.
She was a member of North American Rod and Gun Club Ladies Auxiliary, Hagerstown.
She is survived by her husband, Harry C. Bittinger; a daughter, Patti L. Haines of Cavetown; a son, Eric A. Bittinger of Smithsburg; two stepdaughters, Melanie R. Saxton of Houston and Christina L. Koehn of Katy, Texas; three brothers, Richard L. Bartles of Hancock, Donald G. Bartles of Mount Vernon, Ill., and William S. Bartles of Frederick, Md.; and six grandchildren.
Services will be Saturday at 2 p.m. at Davis Funeral Home, Smithsburg. Pastor Julie Brigham will officiate. Burial will be in Rose Hill Cemetery, Clear Spring.
The family will receive friends today from 7 to 9 p.m. at the funeral home.
James E. Battle III
FREDERICK, Md. - James Edward "Jimmy" Battle III, 23, of 221 Center St., died Wednesday, April 21, 1999, at 5113 New Design Road, Frederick.
Born May 15, 1975, in Brooklyn, N.Y., he was the son of James Edward Battle Jr. of Bridgeport, Conn., and Mary Elizabeth Williams Battle of Frederick.
He was a 1993 graduate of Governor Thomas Johnson High School, where he was active in junior varsity and varsity football. He was a 1998 graduate of Shepherd College, Shepherdstown, W.Va., with a degree in political science and history.
He was a member of Victory Baptist Church, Himes Avenue, Frederick.
In addition to his parents, he is survived by his stepmother, Monteary Battle of Bridgeport; a sister, Jocelyn Battle; two brothers, Joshua Battle and Jonathan Battle, all of Bridgeport; maternal grandmother, Bernice Williams Greene of Brooklyn; and three aunts.
Services will be Monday at 10 a.m. at Green Valley Baptist Church, 11402 Ridge Lane, Monrovia, Md. Pastor Louis Purks, pastor of Victory Baptist Church, will officiate. Burial will be in Resthaven Memorial Gardens, Frederick.
The family will receive friends Sunday from 2 to 5 p.m. and 7 to 9 p.m. at Keeney and Basford Funeral Home, 106 E. Church St., Frederick.

Lucy J. Pendleton, 76, of 325 Henry Ave., died Wednesday, April 21, 1999, at Ravenwood Lutheran Village in Hagerstown.
Born Sept. 9, 1922, in Clarke County, Va., she was the daughter of the late Herbert and Etha Elliott Lockley.
She was preceded in death by her first husband, Theodore R. Jefferson, in 1968.
She was a retired employee of Fountain Head Country Club. She formerly worked at American Legion Post 211 in Williamsport and Fairchild Aircraft.
She was a member of Calvary Temple Apostolic Church, and was an usher.
She is survived by her husband, William Pendleton; two daughters, Hilda Russ and Betty A. Burton, both of Hagerstown; one son, Joseph Jefferson of Indiana, Pa.; two brothers, Houston Lockley and Lacy Lockley, both of Hagerstown; seven grandchildren; 10 great-grandchildren; and nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by nine brothers and three sisters.
