Helen V. Nalley, 54, of 514 Ridge Ave., Hagerstown, died Friday, April 9, 1999, at Western Maryland Center in Hagerstown.
Born Nov. 12, 1944, in Allegany County, Md., she was the daughter of the late Carl W. and Gertrude B. Snyder Smith.
She was also survived by her companion of 9 years, Ralph Purdham.
She was also preceded in death by one daughter, Earlene R. Smith and one sister, Hilda Stone.
L. Joene Herring
L. Joene Herring, 79, of 11331 Youngstoun Drive, Hagerstown, died Sunday, April 11, 1999, at Washington County Hospital.
Born May 31, 1919, in Thornton, Texas, she was the daughter of the late Carl and Lela Logan Bassett.
She retired in 1981 from Rosen's Department Store after 20 years of service.
She was a member of First Baptist Church.
She is survived by one daughter, Carla A. Tabler of Hagerstown; one sister, Mildred Heltzel of Frankfurt, Ky.; one brother, Logan Bassett of Kaufman, Texas; seven grandchildren and five great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by one son, Aubrey N. Herring, and one grandson.
Funeral services will be held Wednesday at 10:30 a.m. at Gerald N. Minnich Funeral Home, 305 N. Potomac St., Hagerstown. The Rev. Eddie Blackmon will officiate. Burial will be in Rose Hill Cemetery.
The family will receive friends Tuesday evening from 6 to 8 p.m.
Mildred I. Lewis
BOONSBORO - Mildred Inena Lewis, 84, of 8507 Mapleville Road, and formerly of Thurmont, Md., died Friday, April 10, 1999, at Washington County Hospital.
Born Sept. 13, 1914, in Frederick County, Md., she was the daughter of the late Roy and Nellie Willard Smith.
She was preceded in death by her first husband, Edwin Lewis, and by her second husband, Gaither Lewis.
She was a member of Pioneer Baptist Church, Thurmont.
She is survived by two daughters, Ada Juette Keedy of Hagerstown and Christine M. Henry of Gettysburg, Pa.; two sons, William H. Lewis of Falling Waters, W.Va., and Pierce N. Lewis of West Virginia; two sisters, Inez Winfield of Smithsburg and Elizabeth Linton of Hagerstown; one brother, Kennard Smith of Highfield, Md.; 14 grandchildren and several great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by two sisters, Ethel Schue and Ruth Stottlemyer and two brothers, Caramel Smith and Donald Smith.
Funeral services will be held Tuesday at 10:30 a.m. in the chapel of the Douglas A. Fiery Funeral Home, 1331 Eastern Blvd. North, Hagerstown. The Rev. James Coblentz will officiate. Burial will be in Grossnickle Brethren Cemetery, Myersville, Md.

Funeral services will be held Tuesday at 10:30 a.m. at Gerald N. Minnich Funeral Home, 305 N. Potomac St., Hagerstown. The Rev. J. Paul Reno will officiate. Burial will be in Rose Hill Cemetery.

Hampton E. Grant
Hampton E. Grant, 83, formerly of 722 Van Fossen St., Winchester, died Sunday, April 11, 1999, at Colton Villa Nursing Center in Hagerstown.
Born Aug. 23, 1915, in Staunton, Va., he was the son of the late William Emmett and Estie Carrie Elliott.
He was preceded in death by his first wife, Thelma Marie Rinehart Grant and his second wife, Helen Sprankle Grant.
He was retired from Keys Oil Co., Hyattsville, Md.
He served with the Army during World War II.
He was a member of Concordia Lutheran Church, Hagerstown.
He was a former member of Moose Lodge 212.
He is survived by one daughter, Barbara Franks of Hagerstown; one son, James Lee Grant of Chambersburg, Pa.; one stepdaughter, Jean Harp of Hagerstown; eight grandchildren, 12 great-grandchildren, and one great-great-granddaughter.
Funeral services will be held Wednesday at 1 p.m. at Minnich Funeral Home, 415 East Wilson Blvd., Hagerstown. The Rev. Charly W. Franks will officiate. Burial will be in Rest Haven Cemetery.
The family will receive friends Tuesday from 7 to 9 p.m. at the funeral home.
Edgar L. Stotelmyer
Edgar Lee Stotelmyer, 96, of 1032 Rose Hill Ave., Hagerstown, died Sunday, April 11, 1999, at Washington County Hospital.
Born Dec. 22, 1902, in Hagerstown, he was the son of the late Harvey and Flora Stotelmyer.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Eva Blanche Stotelmyer.
He retired in 1966 from Brandt Cabinet Works after 34 years.
He was a member of Emmanuel United Methodist Church.
He is survived by one son, Robert C. Stotelmyer Sr. of Hagerstown; two grandsons; three great-grandsons; one great-great granddaughter; and nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by two sisters and five brothers.
Graveside services will be held Thursday at 11 a.m. at Rose Hill Cemetery, 600 S. Potomac St., Hagerstown. The Rev. Dennis L. Upton will officiate.
The family will receive friends Tuesday and Wednesday from 9 a.m. to 9 p.m. at Minnich Funeral Home, 415 East Wilson Blvd., Hagerstown.
