Shawn P. Hershey
VISTA, Calif. - Shawn Paul Hershey, 20, of Vista, died Saturday, April 3, 1999.
Born Oct. 4, 1978, in Spokane, Wash., he was the son of Samuel and Shirley Hershey of Vista.
A full-time student, he was a junior at Point Loma Nazarene University, Point Loma, Calif.
He was a Christian.
He was a member of Surf and Serve, Point Loma University.
In addition to his parents, he is survived by a brother, Shad Hershey of Vista; and his paternal grandmother, Kathleen Hershey of Hagerstown.
Funeral services will be today at 2 p.m. at Santa Fe Christian School, Solana Beach, Calif. Burial will be in El Camino Memorial Park, San Diego.
Arrangements are by El Camino Mortuary Chapel, San Diego.
Maxine J. Brown
CLEAR SPRING - Maxine J. "Maggie" Brown, 82, of 120 Cumberland St., died Thursday, April 8, 1999, at her home.
Born Aug. 28, 1916, in Wiley Ford, W.Va., she was the daughter of the late James and Frantie Price Cross.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Carl Joseph Brown, in 1993.
She co-owned and operated Brown's Lunch of Clear Spring from 1952 to 1971. She and her husband restored a log cabin in Clear Spring and in 1986 opened it as a museum.
She was a member of St. Andrew's Episcopal Church of Clear Spring.
She was a founding member of the Clear Spring Historical Society and served on its board of directors. She was the former site coordinator at Clear Spring for the Commission on Aging.
She is survived by a daughter, Carlene E. Staley of Clear Spring; six grandchildren, Elizabeth Miller, James Staley, Donald Staley, Pamela Staley, Wade Staley and Krista Bonds; 10 great-grandchildren; and a great-great-grandchild.
She was preceded in death by an infant son, James Robert Brown; a sister, Marcella House; and two brothers, James Cross and Thomas Cross.
Services will be Monday at 11 a.m. at Donald E. Thompson Funeral Home, 13607 National Pike, Clear Spring. The Rev. Elaine Prince will officiate. Burial will be in Rose Hill cemetery of Clear Spring.
The family will receive friends Sunday from 6 to 8 p.m. at the funeral home.

Nellie Ruth Edleblute
SHARPSBURG - Nellie Ruth Edleblute, 57, of 211 W. Antietam St., died Tuesday, April 6, 1999, at Washington County Hospital, Hagerstown.
Born Sept. 12, 1941, in Williamsport, she was the daughter of the late Raymond and Bettie Lee Turner Chaney.
She was a graduate of Boonsboro High School.
She was a homemaker.
She was a Protestant.
She is survived by her husband of 40 years, Norman H. "Sonny" Edleblute; two daughters, Sandy A. Clipp and Diana K. Abrecht, both of Sharpsburg; three sons, Kenny L. Edleblute and Mark A. Edleblute, both of Hagerstown, and Brian L. Edleblute of Boonsboro; four sisters, Joann Kendle of Hagerstown, Sylvia Knott of Boonsboro, Shirley Rowe of Maugansville and Judy Row of Sharpsburg; two brothers, Ronald Chaney and Donald Chaney, both of Boonsboro; 11 grandchildren; nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by a brother, Fred Chaney.
Services will be Friday at 2 p.m. at Osborne Funeral Home, 425 S. Conococheague St., Williamsport. The Rev. Daniel Fraley will officiate. Burial will be in Mountain View Cemetery, Sharpsburg.
Friends may call today from 7 to 9 p.m. at the funeral home, which will be open after 9 a.m.
Ruth C. Montgomery
Ruth Catherine Montgomery, 77, of 2377 Pennsylvania Ave., Hagerstown, died Wednesday, April 7, 1999, at 1112 Sunnyside Drive, Hagerstown, the home of her daughter.
Born Feb. 28, 1922, in Riverton, W.Va., she was the daughter of the late Lloyd B. Huffman and Kate Blizzard King.
Her husband, George W. Montgomery Jr., died in 1980.
She was of the Brethren faith.
She is survived by two daughters, Jane Lee Powers of Hagerstown and Jean Coats of Damascus, Md.; a son, Clifford R. Montgomery of Rock Hill, S.C.; a sister, Reva Shirley of Keyser, W.Va.; a half brother, James King Edmonds of Washington; six grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren.
Services will be Friday at 1 p.m. at Minnich Funeral Home, 415 E. Wilson Blvd., Hagerstown. The Rev. Loyal H. Vanderveer will officiate. Burial will be in Cedar Lawn Memorial Park, Hagerstown.
The family will receive friends at the funeral home today from 7 to 9 p.m., and on Friday at noon.
Walter L. Wolfinger
JACKSONVILLE BEACH, Fla. - Dr. Walter Lee Wolfinger, 88, of Avante Nursing Home, and formerly of 29 Myrtle Ave., Waynesboro, Pa., died Saturday, April 3, 1999.
Born April 28, 1910, in Hagerstown, he was the son of the late Lee Z. and Mary D. Wishard Wolfinger.
His wife, Helen F. Danfelt Wolfinger, died in 1998. They were married
April 10, 1936.
He was a 1928 graduate of Waynesboro High School. He received his bachelor of science degree from Dickenson College in Carlisle, Pa., in 1933. He received his medical degree from Jefferson Medical College in Philadelphia in 1937.
He did his residency at Harrisburg General Hospital, and opened his first office of family medicine in Smithsburg. He later opened his practice in Waynesboro.
A veteran of World War II, he served in the U.S. Army Air Force.
He served as team doctor for Waynesboro Tigers Football Team, and was Waynesboro School doctor for many years. He retired in 1987.
He was a member of Trinity United Church of Christ, Waynesboro.
He also was a member of BPO Elks Lodge 731, Waynesboro; Pennsylvania Medical Society; American Medical Association; National AARP; Waynesboro Lions Club; William Max McLaughlin VFW Post 695; Harrisburg Consistory; Zembo Temple of Harrisburg; and past master of Salem Lodge 196 Free and Accepted Masons.
He is survived by two daughters, Susan A. Diller of San Peido, Calif., and Nancy J. Miller of Fort Loudon, Pa.; four grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by a sister, Mary Louise Snyder; and four infant brothers.
A memorial service will be held Saturday at 2 p.m. at Trinity United Church of Christ, 30 W. North St., Waynesboro. The Rev. James T. Williams will officiate. Burial will be at the convenience of the family.
There will be no viewing.

Gerald G. Bass
Gerald Gordon Bass, 72, of 16938 Shinham Road, Hagerstown, died Wednesday, April 7, 1999, at Washington County Hospital.
Born Feb. 15, 1927, in Chambersburg, Pa., he was the son of the late Charles E. Sr. and Phoebe M. DeHart Bass.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Dorothy Marie Bass, in 1994.
He was employed by Columbia Vending for 26 years, retiring in 1989.
A veteran of World War II, he served in the U.S. Army in the European Theater.
He was a member of Emmanuel Baptist Temple.
He was a member of American Legion Post 612 of St. Thomas, Pa.; and AARP.
He is survived by two sons, Lynn A. Bass and Gerald E. Bass, both of Hagerstown; a sister, Phoebe Margaret Reeder of Chambersburg; two brothers, Charles E. Bass Jr. of Dauphin, Pa., and William D. Bass of Chambersburg; a grandson; and five nieces and nephews.
Services will be Saturday at 11 a.m. at Minnich Funeral Home, 415 E. Wilson Blvd., Hagerstown. The Rev. Ed Hampton will officiate. Burial will be in Cedar Lawn Memorial Park, Hagerstown.
