Ruth F. Weaver
HANCOCK - Ruth Faye Weaver, 71, of Washington Street, died Tuesday, April 6, 1999, at Washington County Hospital.
Born Oct. 9, 1927, in Mercersburg, Pa., she was the daughter of the late Charles E. and Elsie M. Custer Unger.
She had been employed by Londontown in Hancock. She was a homemaker.
She was a member of St. Paul's Lutheran Church, Resley Road, Hancock.
She was a member of Webster B. Harrison Post 26 Ladies Auxiliary, Hancock.
She is survived by her husband, Roy H. Weaver, whom she married
Jan. 26, 1945; two daughters, Susan J. Hinckle and Linda K. McCarty, both of Hancock; two sisters, Hazel F. Unger of Waynesboro, Pa., and Mabel Suffecool of Mercersburg, Pa.; two grandchildren; nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by two sisters, Rhoda Heisey and Evelyn Pine; and four brothers, Joe Unger, Lloyd Unger, Merle Unger and William Unger.
Services will be Friday at 11 a.m. at St. Paul's Lutheran Church. Pastor Timothy Davis will officiate. Burial will be in the church cemetery.
The family will receive friends today from 7 to 9 p.m. at Grove Funeral Home, 141 W. Main St., Hancock; and Friday at 10 a.m. at the church. The funeral home will be open today from 3 p.m.

Helen E. Yeakle
CLEAR SPRING - Helen Elizabeth Yeakle, 81, of 230 Cumberland St., died Wednesday, April 7, 1999, at her home.
Born April 27, 1917, in Williamson, Pa., she was the daughter of the late David and Alice Stoner Heckman.
She was preceded in death by her husband, John Roger Yeakle, in 1992.
In early years, she was the co-owner and operator of Yeakles Grocery Store in Clear Spring and of Clear Spring Exxon, and Yeakles Towing Service. She was a Washington County school bus contractor and driver for 14 years, retiring in 1980.
She was a life member of St. Paul Lutheran Church of Clear Spring.
She is survived by two sons, Donald F. Yeakle Sr. and Terry L. Yeakle, both of Clear Spring; a sister, Marion Davis of Greencastle, Pa.; a brother, Richard Heckman of Nova, Pa.; six grandchildren; and 12 great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by three sisters and three brothers.
Services will be Saturday at 10:30 a.m. at St. Paul Lutheran Church. The Rev. Mary Amundson will officiate. Burial will be in the church cemetery.
The family will receive friends Friday from 7 to 9 p.m. at Donald E. Thompson Funeral Home, 13607 National Pike, Clear Spring.

Lyle S. Mitchell
Lyle Spalding Mitchell, 87, of 18806 Preston Road, Hagerstown, died Tuesday, April 6, 1999, at his home.
Born Nov. 16, 1911, in Hagerstown, he was the son of the late Joseph E. and Mary Spalding Mitchell.
He was preceded in death by his wife of 46 years, Mary E. Heefner Mitchell.
He was a graduate of Hagerstown High School and Beckly College in Harrisburg, Pa.
He retired from Fairchild Aircraft in 1962.
He was the first employee of Henson Flying Service in the 1930s.
He was a photographer.
He was a life member of OX5 Aviation Pioneers, American Rod and Gun Club and AARP.
He is survived by a son, Kent A. Mitchell of Hagerstown; nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by a sister, Gail M. Kerfoot.
Services will be Friday at 11 a.m. at Douglas A. Fiery Funeral Home, 1331 Eastern Blvd. North, Hagerstown. The Rev. Victor Zuck will officiate. Burial will be in Rest Haven Cemetery, Hagerstown.
The family will receive friends today from 7 to 9 p.m. at the funeral home.
Irene Cooper
Irene "Maxine" Cooper, 47, of 120 Manor Drive, Hagerstown, died Tuesday, April 6, 1999, at her home.
Born Sept. 17, 1951, in Charles Town, W.Va., she was the daughter of the late Francis and Irene Cooper.
She attended Eagle Avenue High School in Charles Town.
She had been employed by Wendy's Restaurant.
She attended King's Apostle Holiness Church in Hagerstown.
She is survived by a longtime friend, Roy Stevens of Hagerstown; a sister, Peggy Cooper of Hagerstown; three brothers, William F. Cooper of Charleston, W.Va., Leonard Cooper and Raymond Cooper, both of Hagerstown; cousins; nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by a brother, Charles Cooper.
Services will be Saturday at 2 p.m. at King's Apostle Church, 125 W. Bethel St., Hagerstown. Pastor Derek Kee will officiate.
The family will receive friends Saturday at 1 p.m. at the church.

Curtis Giffin
WILLIAMSTON, S.C. - Curtis "Curt" Giffin, 59, of 102 Paisley Drive, died Sunday, March 28, 1999, at his home.
Born Dec. 16, 1939, in Dargan, he was the son of the late Ellsworth Giffin Sr. and Leda Saylor Giffin.
He was a carpenter.
He is survived by his wife, Nancy Ellen Ray Giffin; a son, Shannon Gay of Funkstown; a daughter, Angel Britton of Hagerstown; two stepdaughters, Glenda Bolt of Anderson, S.C., and Cheryl Spicer of Minneapolis; three stepsons, Richard Armes of Anderson, Brent Armes of Pelzer, S.C., and Mark Armes of Washington, Ind.; three sisters, Amelia Grim, Judy Hetzel and Joan Lohman, all of Sharpsburg; a brother, Ellsworth Giffin Jr. of Sharpsburg; two grandchildren; 11 step-grandchildren; a step-great-grandchild; nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by a brother, Roger Giffin; and a stepson, Craig Armes.
Memorial services were held Thursday, April 1, at Gray Mortuary Chapel, Pelzer. The Rev. Douglas M. Russ officiated.

Thomas R. Gingell
EMMITSBURG, Md. - Thomas Robert Gingell, 80, of West Main Street, died Tuesday, April 6, 1999, at Frederick Memorial Hospital, Frederick, Md.
Born Oct. 15, 1918, in Zora, Pa., he was the son of the late George Thomas and Mary Weller Gingell.
He owned and operated Gingell's Quarry, Fairfield, Pa. He retired from the State Highway Administration.
He served in the U.S. Navy during World War II.
He was a member of Elias Evangelical Lutheran Church, Emmitsburg.
He was a member of antique automobile and steam engine organizations; VFW Post 6658, Emmitsburg; and American Legion, Francis X. Elder Post 121, Emmitsburg.
He was a past commissioner for the Town of Emmitsburg.
He is survived by his wife, Jane Bollinger Gingell; three children, Pinny Davis of Urbana, Md., Robert T. Gingell of Cascade and Francie Thomas of Frederick; a sister, Dian Small of Carroll Valley, Pa.; and four grandchildren.
Memorial services will be Thursday at 11 a.m. at Skiles Funeral Home, Emmitsburg. Paul Hoffman, his nephew, will officiate. Burial will be at the convenience of the family.
There will be no viewing or visitation.
