The Rev. Roy E. Giles
WILLIAMSPORT - The Rev. Roy Emmons Giles, 74, of 7600 Neck Road, Williamsport, died Saturday, April 3, 1999, at his home.
Born Dec. 9, 1924, in Niagra, Pa., he was the son of the late Russell Warner and Emma Clarissa Ledyard Giles.
He was a 1942 graduate of Pleasant Mt. High School, a graduate of Hartwick College, Oneonta, N.Y. and a graduate of Wesley Theological Seminary in Washington, D.C.
He was an ordained United Methodist minister of the Wyoming Conference, serving churches as their pastor in New York, Maryland and Pennsylvania, and an assistant pastor at Catonsville United Methodist Church in Catonsville, Md. He served as Protestant chaplain at Spring Grove Hospital in Catonsville, Potomac Center in Hagerstown and retired after 25 years of service as the Protestant chaplain at The Maryland Correctional Institution in Hagerstown. He was a farmer all of his life, retiring to his farm in 1995.
He is survived by his wife of 50 years, Jane B. Giles, whom he married
in 1948; four daughters, Gail Kestler of LaPlata, Md., Joyce E. Foltz, Clara M. Bush and Cynthia S. Siebert, all of Hagerstown; two sons, Roger B. Giles and Russell W. Giles, both of Williamsport; two brothers, Edwin C. Giles of Prompton, Pa., and Dwight E. Giles of Hendersonville, N.C.; 12 grandchildren and nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by two sisters, Francis Burdick and M. Elizabeth Giles; and three brothers, Robert Giles, Reed Giles and E. Kermit Giles.
Funeral services will be held Tuesday at 11 a.m. at St. Andrew's United Methodist Church, 1020 Maryland Ave., Hagerstown. The Rev. Andrew J. Cooney will officiate. Burial will be in Manor Cemetery, Tilghmanton, Md.
The family will receive friends today from 7 to 9 p.m. at Minnich Funeral Home, 415 East Wilson Blvd., Hagerstown and Tuesday one hour prior to the services at the church.

Margaret M. Paulsgrove
Margaret Mary Paulsgrove, 84, of 20651 Millers Church Road, Hagerstown, died Saturday, April 3, 1999, at Williamsport Retirement Village, Williamsport.
Born April 29, 1914, in Sharpsburg, she was the daughter of the late Lewis William and Bessie Leota Boyer Moats.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Silas Daniel Paulsgrove, who died in 1982.
She was a member of Conococheague Grace Brethren Church, Greencastle, Pa., and was formerly a member of Grace Brethren Church, Hagerstown, where she taught Sunday School for 39 years.
She was a member of Leitersburg Grange 361 and Leitersburg Senior Citizens.
She is survived by one foster son, Terry W. Gigeous of Carlisle, Pa.; two sisters, Doris H. Itnyre and Vivian L. Moats, both of Hagerstown; three grandchildren and several nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by one sister, Martha V. Moats; and two brothers, Richard E. Moats and Leonard Moats.
Funeral services will be held Wednesday at 11 a.m. at Andrew K. Coffman Funeral Home, 40 E. Antietam St., Hagerstown. The Rev. Alan N. Clingan will officiate. Burial will be in Mountain View Cemetery, Sharpsburg.
The family will receive friends Tuesday from 7 to 9 p.m.

Harold S. Miller
Harold A. "Jim" Miller, 83, of 2008 Maplewood Drive, Hagerstown, died Sunday, April 4, 1999, at Washington County Hospital.
Born Oct. 2, 1915, in Myersville, Md., he was the son of the late Lorenzo S. and Frances Klipp Miller.
He was a 1932 graduate of Middletown High School.
He retired from Renn Kirby Pontiac, Frederick as a salesman. He was formerly employed with Everedy Company, Frederick, Md. and he owned and operated Miller's Gulf Station in Frederick and Myersville.
He was a member of Myersville Lions Club, B.P.O. Hagerstown Elks 378.
He was a lifelong member of Zion United Methodist Church, Myersville, where he was a member of the choir for 65 years and served as choir director for 15 years.
He is survived by his wife of 61 years, Ano "Ann" Gilbert Miller; two daughters, Carole A. Ellis of Arnold, Md. and Connie V. Gibbs of Fairfield, Pa.; one son, H. Eugene Miller of Baltimore; two sisters, Helen Rice and Virginia Eichelberger, both of Myersville; six grandchildren; three great-grandchildren and by a special friend, Joann Horine of Myersville.
He was preceded in death by four sisters, Alice Myers, Susie Kaetzel, Louise Rice, and Catherine Phelps, and one brother, Roscoe Miller.
Funeral services will be held Wednesday at 11 a.m. at Mt. Zion United Methodist Church, Myersville. The Rev. Norman Kemmerer will officiate. Burial will be in the adjoining church cemetery.
The family will receive friends Tuesday from 7 to 9 p.m. at Ricketts Funeral Home, 504 Main Street, Myersville.

Andrew G. Birmingham III
RIDGEWOOD, N.J. - Andrew G. Birmingham III, 51, of Ridgewood, and formerly of Martinsburg, W.Va., died Saturday, April 3, 1999, at Valley Hospital, Ridgewood.
Born Aug. 19, 1947, in Bradenton, Fla., he was the son of Andrew G. Birmingham of Gibsonton, Fla., and Marion Alderton of Martinsburg.
He was a graduate of Martinsburg High School.
He was employed by Anacomp Computer Company in New York City.
He was a veteran of the U.S. Army.
He was a member of Ridgewood United Methodist Church.
He was active in amateur radio. He was president of 10-70 Repeater Association, Inc., East Coast DX Association, and an assistant vice-director of American Radio Relay League.
He was judge advocate of American Legion, Post 53, Ridgewood, and was an active band parent with the Ridgewood High School band program.
In addition to his parents, he is survived by his wife, Joyce Dove Birmingham, two daughters, Krista D. and Holly A. Birmingham, all of Ridgewood; and one brother, Dale Birmingham of Martinsburg.
Funeral services will be held Wednesday at 3 p.m. Major David Johnston will officiate. Burial will be in Pleasant View Memory Gardens.
The family will receive friends Wednesday from 2:30 to 3 p.m. at Brown Funeral Home, Martinsburg.
Virginia L. Brightwell
BRUNSWICK, Md. - Virginia Lee "Ginny" Brightwell, 70, of 215 West Potomac St., Brunswick, died Saturday, April 3, 1999, at her sister's residence in Knoxville, Md.
Born Aug. 10, 1928, in Brunswick, she was the daughter of the late James E. and Frances Cannon Eury.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Russell A. "Stump" Brightwell, who died in 1993.
She and her late husband owned and operated Berlin Cafe of Brunswick for over 20 years.
She was a member of First Baptist Church.
She was a member of Women of the Moose, Chapter 660, Ladies Auxiliary of Steadman-Keenan Post 96 of the American Legion, Ladies Auxiliary of Fraternal Order of Eagles Aerie 1136, Pythian Sisters Century Temple 4 and Charter Member of Ladies Auxiliary of V.F.W. Post 10421, all of Brunswick.
She is survived by one daughter, Frances Lee of Jefferson, Md.; two sisters, Marguerite Myers of Knoxville and Martha Green of Lovettsville, Va.; two brothers, Charles Eury of Knoxville and Russell Eury of Brunswick; one granddaughter, one grandson and four great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by two sisters, Dorothy Conner and Eleanor Eury.
Funeral services will be held Wednesday at 11 a.m. at John T. Williams Funeral Home, 100 Petersville Road, Brunswick. The Rev. Daniel T. Spiker will officiate. Burial will be in Park Heights Cemetery, Brunswick.
The family will receive friends Tuesday from 7 to 9 p.m. at the funeral home. For the convenience of friends the funeral home will be open today from 7 to 9 p.m. and Tuesday from 9 a.m. to 9 p.m.
