Vergie C. Reese
BOONSBORO - Vergie Catherine Reese, 96, of 8507 Mapleville Road, and formerly of Hagerstown, died Tuesday, March 30, 1999, at Fahrney-Keedy Home.
Born Sept. 30, 1902, in Beaver Creek, she was the daughter of the late C. Newcomer and Katie Jones Welty.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Charles Ralph Reese.
She was a homemaker.
She was a member of Beaver Creek Christian Church, and Fidelus Sunday School class.
She is survived by two nieces and a nephew.
She was preceded in death by a stepson, William Reese; four sisters, Edna Rudolph, Carrie Smith, Florence Smith and Grace Welty; and two brothers, Charles Welty and John Welty.
Services will be Friday at 2 p.m. at Bast Funeral Home, 7606 Old National Pike, Boonsboro. The Rev. J. Mark Curran will officiate. Burial will be in Beaver Creek Cemetery.
The family will receive friends today from 7 to 9 p.m. at the funeral home.
Effie B. Brechbiel
Effie Belle Brechbiel, 72, of 1105 Corbett Street, Hagerstown, died Sunday, Feb. 28, 1999, at Western Maryland Hospital Center.
Born Dec. 2, 1926, in Huntington, Pa., she was the daughter of the late Clarence and Florence Rheam Brechbiel.
She was employed at Potomac Diner and Jim's Always as a waitress for 45 years.
She is survived by one daughter, Edna M. Ramsey of Bailey, N.C.; her companion of 35 years, Harold Gibble; and several nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by one sister, Ruth Gearhart; and two brothers, Earl Brechbiel and Donald Brechbiel.
Funeral services will be held Tuesday at 11 a.m. at Minnich Funeral Home, 415 East Wilson Blvd., Hagerstown. The Rev. Ken Harris will officiate. Burial will be in Cedar Lawn Memorial Park.
The family will receive friends Tuesday on hour prior to the services at the funeral home.
Laura M. Manon
Laura Mildred Knepper Manon, 94, of 16905 Pickwick Lane, Hagerstown, died Friday, Feb. 26, 1999, at Washington County Hospital, Hagerstown.
Born Dec. 14, 1904, in Washington Township, Pa., she was the daughter of the late George and Agnes Kate Bumbaugh Knepper.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Ralph B. Manon, who died in 1969.
She was a 1923 graduate of Quincy High School. She was also a graduate of Waynesboro Business College.
She was retired from Waynesboro Hospital as a recording secretary in the pathology laboratory after 17 years of service. Prior to that she was employed with Frick Company and Landis Machine Company as a stenographer.
She was a member of Evangelical Lutheran Church, Waynesboro.
She was a member of A.A.R.P.
She is survived by two daughters, F.M. Britt, and Faerie JoLane Manon, both of Hagerstown; one son, R. Eugene Manon of Hagerstown; one grandchild; two great-grandchildren; and five step-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by four sisters, Helen Kaylor, Margaret Lohman, Eveline Mann and Hilda Carper.
Funeral services will be held Tuesday at 2 p.m. at Chapel Douglas A. Fiery Funeral Home, 1331 Eastern Boulevard North, Hagerstown. The Rev. Richard A. Seaks will officiate. Burial will be in Mt. Zion Cemetery, Quincy, Pa.
The family will receive friends Tuesday one hour prior to the service at the funeral home.
Harvey L. Brown
WILLIAMSPORT - Harvey Lee "Teter" Brown, 74, of 12 E. Sunset Avenue, Williamsport, died Saturday, Feb. 27, 1999, at his home.
Born Feb. 12, 1925, in Williamsport, he was the son of the late Charles William and Effie Pearl Pryor Brown.
He was self-employed as a carpenter for most of his life.
He served in the U.S. Navy with the 104th Naval Construction Battalion "Seabees" during World War II.
He was a member of Williamsport United Methodist Church, Conococheague Tribe 84 IORed Men, Potomac Post 202 American Legion and A.A.R.P.
He is survived by his wife, Barbara West Brown; one daughter, Sandra Lee Cartwright of Mt. View, Calif.; one son, Gary Wayne Brown of Halfway; two brothers, Jess W. Brown and Charles E. Brown, both of Williamsport; two grandchildren and several nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by three brothers, Harry E. Brown, Mark L. Brown and Frank M. Brown; one half-brother, Francis Anderson.
Funeral services will be held Wednesday at 11 a.m. at Albert L. Leaf Memorial Chapel of the Osborne Funeral Home, 425 S. Conococheague Street, Williamsport. The Rev. Alan M. Greijack will officiate. Burial will be in Greenlawn Memorial Park, Williamsport.
The family will receive friends Tuesday evening from 7 to 9 at the funeral home. The funeral home will be open after 9 a.m. for the convenience of family and friends.

Royal A. Johnson
Royal Albert Johnson, 67, of 19014 Rock Maple Drive, Hagerstown, died Friday, Feb. 26, 1999, at Washington County Hospital, Hagerstown.
Born Nov. 7, 1931, in Morris, Minn., he was the son of the late Albert and Johanna Ulvestad Johnson.
He attended the University of Minnesota.
He was a fellow in the Society of Actuaries and a member of American Academy of Actuaries and was an enrolled actuary for many years.
He was a veteran of the U.S. Army.
He was a former member of the Vestry of St. John's Episcopal Church in Wisconsin Rapids, Wisc.
He was a member of Stevens Point, Wisconsin Country Club and Hillendale Country Club in Phoenix, Md.
He is survived by his wife of 43 years, Mary V. Johnson; one daughter, Mary Birgit Johnson Baldeon of Burtonsville, Md.; one son, Robert Andrew Albert Johnson of Parksville, Md.; one sister, Dr. Rochelle J. Medici of San Marino, Calif.; and two grandchildren.
Funeral services will be held Friday at 2 p.m. at Chapel of Douglas A. Fiery Funeral Home, 1331 Eastern Blvd. North, Hagerstown. The Rev. Kenneth J. Dorsch will officiate. Burial will be in Rest Haven Cemetery, Hagerstown.
There will be no viewing.

Thelma L. McKee
HANCOCK - Thelma L. McKee, 77, of Weller Road, Hancock, died Monday, March 1, 1999, at Morgan County War Memorial Hospital in Berkeley Springs, W.Va.
Born April 13, 1921, in Fulton County, Pa., she was the daughter of the late Ora W. and Mattie Winters Douglas.
She was a self-employed farmer.
She was a member of Damascus Christian Church, Big Cove Tannery, Pa.
She is survived by her husband, J. Austin McKee Jr., whom she married
in 1950; one son, Austin D. McKee III of Hancock; one sister, Lucille Weller of Hancock; four brothers, Marvin Douglas and Bruce Douglas, both of Hancock, W. Eugene Douglas of Big Cove Tannery, and Marlin Douglas of Fayetteville, Pa.; one granddaughter, one grandson, and one great-grandson.
She was preceded in death by a son, Kevin Shawn McKee; and a brother, Melvin Douglas.
Funeral services will be Thursday at 11 a.m. at Damascus Christian Church. The Rev. Roger Truax will officiate. Burial will be in the adjoining Damascus Cemetery.
The family will receive friends Wednesday from 7 to 9 p.m. at Grove Funeral Home, 141 W. Main St., Hancock; and at the church Thursday at 10 a.m. The funeral home will be open Wednesday from 2 p.m.
