Roy L. Campbell
WILLIAMSPORT - Roy Lacy Campbell, 67, of 15735 Fenton Ave., died Thursday, March 4, 1999, at Veteran's Administration Medical Center, Martinsburg, W.Va.
Born July 14, 1931, in Marlinton, W.Va., he was the son of the late William Dowen and Flossie Meize Waugh Campbell.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Brenda Cole Campbell, in 1991.
He was employed by Cushwa Brick for 40 years, retiring in 1997.
He served with the U.S. Marine Corps during the Korean War.
He attended Rehoboth United Methodist Church in Williamsport.
He was a member of Potomac Post 202 American Legion, Williamsport; and a past member of Community Rescue Service, Hagerstown.
He is survived by a son, William "Bill" Campbell of Clearbrook, Va.; two stepdaughters, Michelle Dropp of Martinsburg and Cheryl Duffy of Hagerstown; a stepson, Chris Hosfeld of Hagerstown; two sisters, Millicent Withers and Ruth Campbell, both of Woodbridge, Va.; five brothers, Clyde Campbell of Fairfax, Va., Tom Campbell and Lyle Campbell, both of Marlinton, W.Va., Ed Campbell of Austintown, Ohio and Herold Campbell of Chicago Heights, Ill.; two grandchildren; and seven step grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by a daughter, Patsy Ann Campbell.
Services will be Monday at 10 a.m. in Albert L. Leaf Memorial Chapel of Osborne Funeral Home, 425 S. Conococheague St., Williamsport. The Rev. Robert Robinson and the Rev. Bob Ardinger will officiate. Burial will be in Cedar Lawn Memorial Park, Hagerstown. Military graveside services will be provided by Morris Frock Post 42, Hagerstown.
Friends may call Sunday from 7 to 9 p.m. at the funeral home. The funeral home will be open Sunday after 9 a.m. for the convenience of family and friends.
Mary E. Baker
CLEAR SPRING - Mary Ellen Baker, 74, of 12534 St. Paul Road, died Thursday, March 4, 1999, at University of Maryland Hospital in Baltimore.
Born Jan. 6, 1925, in Franklin County, Pa., she was the daughter of the late Nathan A. and Elsie Prudence Drury Hornbaker.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Vincent Andrew Baker, in 1971.
She was a homemaker.
She was of the Protestant faith.
She is survived by three daughters, Peggy J. Baker, Elsie M. Duffey and Betty L. Albright, all of Clear Spring; two sisters, Mildred B. Pierce of Big Pool, Md. and Jessie V. Blair of Hagerstown; a brother, Glen Hornbaker of Clear Spring; four grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by two brothers, Ernest Hornbaker and William Hornbaker.
Services will be Monday at 2 p.m. at Donald Edwin Thompson Funeral Home Inc., 13607 National Pike, Clear Spring. The Rev. Robert E. Timmons will officiate. Burial will be in Shanktown cemetery in Big Pool, Md.
The family will receive friends Sunday from 7 to 9 p.m. at the funeral home.
Alberta L. Doig
CLINTON, Md. - Alberta L. Doig, 71, of Clinton, died Thursday, March 4, 1999, at Heartland of Martinsburg, Martinsburg, W.Va.
Born Oct. 9, 1927, in Pittsburgh, she was the daughter of the late Ernest William and Inez Russell Ruby Keib.
She was preceded in death by her husband, James N. Doig.
She was a member of American Legion Post 259, Clinton.
She is survived by a son, Ernest W. Wilkerson of Bunker Hill, W.Va.; and a brother, Almon Keib of Boca Raton, Fla.
She was preceded in death by three sisters, Betty Jane Saukel, Dorothy Virginia Bodack and Martha Anna Keib; and three brothers, Henry Walter, Ernest Russell and Kenneth Raymond Keib.
Services will be Monday at 10 a.m. at Lee Funeral Home, 6633 Old Alexander Ferry Road, Clinton. Chaplain Willie Seiger will officiate. Burial will be in Resurrection cemetery in Clinton.
The family will receive friends Sunday from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. at the funeral home.
Local arrangements are by Brown Funeral Home, Martinsburg.
Irene M. Ellsworth
WILLIAMSPORT - Irene Middlekauff Ellsworth, 94, of 16617 Buford Drive, died Thursday, March 4, 1999, at Washington County Hospital.
Born Sept. 3, 1904, in Hagerstown, she was the daughter of the late William L. and Emma Mariah Mullen Middlekauff.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Donald Monroe Ellsworth, in 1988. They were married
Dec. 6, 1929.
She was a member of St. Andrew Presbyterian Church in Williamsport.
She is survived by a daughter, Judith Johnson of Williamsport; and two grandsons, Michael Johnson and Matthew Johnson, both of New York.
She was preceded in death by three sisters; and two brothers.
Services will be Monday at 11 a.m. at Minnich Funeral Home, 415 E. Wilson Blvd., Hagerstown. The Rev. Mark A. Sandell will officiate. Burial will be in Cedar Lawn Memorial Park.
The family will receive friends Sunday from 7 to 9 p.m. at the funeral home.
Virginia E. Stonebraker
LACEY'S SPRING, Ala. - Virginia Elizabeth Stonebraker, 78, of Lacey's Spring, died Wednesday, March 3, 1999, at Huntsville Hospital Main, Huntsville, Ala.
Born Sept. 10, 1920, in Hagerstown, she was the daughter of the late Paul E. C. and Mary E. Mowen McNamee.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Retired Maj. John Henry Dalby Stonebraker.
She is survived by a daughter, Mary R. Haggerty of Rockford, Ill.; three sons, Jay D. Stonebraker of Arab, Ala., John M. Stonebraker of San Diego and Cary P. Stonebraker of Huntsville; seven sisters, M. Lorraine Ebersole of Clear Spring, Thelma M. Oberholzer of Greencastle, Pa., Lois L. Helman of Maugansville, Janice I. McDaniel of Chambersburg, Pa., Lillian L. Bartles, A. Elaine Lewis and Patricia Michael, all of Hagerstown; two brothers, Paul L. McNamee and Lindy E. McNamee, both of Hagerstown; seven grandchildren; and five great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by a sister, Mahala Jane McNamee, who died in infancy; and three brothers, William E. McNamee, Samuel A. McNamee and Charles C. McNamee, who died March 1, 1999.
A memorial service will be held at a later date.
Burial will be in Arlington National Cemetery.
There will be no visitation.
Betty J. Davis
Betty Jean Davis, 68, of King Street, Hagerstown, died Thursday, March 4, 1999, at Washington County Hospital.
Born Jan. 8, 1931, in Bolivar, W.Va., she was the daughter of the late Jesse James and Clara Agnes Helsey Turner.
She was employed as a telephone operator for C&P Telephone until retiring in 1967.
She was a Christian.
She was a member of Pioneers of C&P Telephone Co.
She is survived by her husband of 46 years, Robert Neal Davis; a daughter, Bobbie Jean Davis of Shepherdstown, W.Va.; and a brother, James A. Turner of Clear Spring.
