Allen S. Hazard
Allen S. Hazard, 74, of Hagerstown and formerly of Moorefield, W.Va., died Friday, March 5, 1999, at Washington County Hospital.
Born Dec. 16, 1924, in Port Washington, N.Y., he was the son of the late Leroy and Elizabeth Allen Hazard.
He was preceded in death by his first wife, Harriett Wentworth Hazard, in 1967 and his second wife, Alfreda Martin Hazard, in 1995.
He was a veteran of World War II, serving with the U.S. Marine Corps.
He was a member of American Legion and Veterans of Foreign Wars.
He is survived by four daughters, Dianne E. Allen of Wellsley, Mass., LeAnne Halterman of Hagerstown, Martha Stevens-Davis of Glendale, Ariz. and Katharine Fertig of Moorefield; a son, Tom Hazard of Stephens City, Va.; an adopted daughter, Michelene D. Hazard of Winchester, Va.; a sister, Martha Lee Woodward of Woodbury, Conn.; 12 grandchildren; and 13 great-grandchildren.
A cremation memorial service will be held at a later date in Moorefield.
Arrangements are by Fraley Funeral Home of Moorefield.
Fred J. Dayhoff
Fred Junior Dayhoff, 60, of 19810 Evelyn Ave., Hagerstown, died Friday, March 5, 1999, at his home.
Born June 26, 1938, in Washington County, he was the son of the late Frederick William and Viola Gertrude Domer Dayhoff.
He had been employed with Chemical Leaman Tank Lines; Asplundah Tree Company; and Hub City Towing.
He was a member of Moose International; Associate F.O.P.; National Street Rod Association; Washington County Street Rods; Arch Racing Club of Hagerstown; and an honorary retired member of International Brotherhood of Teamsters 992.
He is survived by his companion, Joan Hurd; a son, John Dayhoff of Hagerstown; a granddaughter, Alison Nuckles of Waynesboro, Pa.; and two grandsons, Brandon Dayhoff and John Dayhoff, both of Hagerstown.
Services will be Tuesday at 1 p.m. at Minnich Funeral Home, 415 E. Wilson Blvd., Hagerstown. The Rev. Patrick Malone will officiate. Burial will be in Rest Haven Cemetery.
The family will receive friends Monday from 7 to 9 p.m. at the funeral home.
Leon L. Taulton
BRUNSWICK, Md. - Leon Lester Taulton, 76, of 1100 Peach Orchard Lane, died Friday, March 5, 1999, at Frederick Memorial Hospital, Frederick, Md.
Born June 27, 1922, in Frederick, he was the son of the late Harold Arlie and Beulah Beachley Taulton.
He retired as owner and operator of Darr's Tavern in Brunswick.
He was a member of Loyal Order of Moose Lodge 1582 in Brunswick.
He is survived by two daughters, Elizabeth Lloyd of Ranson, W.Va., and Debbie Sirbaugh of Charles Town, W.Va.; three sons, Leon Taulton Jr. of Charles Town, Gary Taulton of Ranson and David L. Taulton of Livermore, Calif.; four sisters, Alma Miller of Knoxville, Md., Thelma Gousha of Baltimore, Deloris Taulton of Brunswick and Dorothy Merchant of Hagerstown; three brothers, Robert Taulton, Wayne Taulton and Gerald Taulton, all of Knoxville; 16 grandchildren; and 21 great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by a sister, Ruth Koontz; three brothers, Frank Taulton, Merle Taulton and Buddy Taulton; and a close friend, Dorothy Conner.
Services will be Tuesday at 11 a.m. at John T. Williams Funeral Home, 100 Petersville Road, Brunswick. The Rev. Douglas May will officiate. Burial will be in Park Heights Cemetery, Brunswick.
The family will receive friends Monday from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. at the funeral home. For the convenience of friends, the funeral home will be open Monday from 9 a.m. to 9 p.m.

Massey H. Roe
Massey Howard Roe, 97, of 18025 Putter Drive, Hagerstown, died Friday, March 5, 1999, at Washington County Hospital.
Born Dec. 6, 1901, in Denton, Md., he was the son of the late Walter Jump and Josephine Plummer Roe.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Thelma G. Roe, in 1998. They were married
July 8, 1982.
He was a supervisor for C&P Telephone Company, retiring in 1964, with 42 years of service.
He marched with the Boys' Brigade Band at the inauguration of Woodrow Wilson.
He was a life member of St. John's Episcopal Church.
He was a member of Hagerstown Lions Club since 1942. He had maintained perfect attendance since becoming a Lion in 1942. He was president from 1947 to 1948 and District Governor 22-W from 1949 to 1950. He served a two-year term as ad director of the International Director, Lions Clubs International, from 1952 to 1954. He received numerous awards for his efforts on behalf of the association, including the 100 Percent District Governor Award, an Extension Award, the Advanced Key Member Award, 14 International President's Awards, and the Ambassador of Good Will Award, the highest honor bestowed upon association members. He was advisor to the Lions Vision Research Foundation, Inc. for District 22 and chairman of the Massey H. Roe Youth Fund, Hagerstown Lions Club. He also was a Melvin Jones Fellow. He was honored with 15 International President's Awards for Outstanding Services to the Association. He was the founder of and a heavy contributor to the Massey H. Roe Foundation, which awards scholarships to deserving students attending Hagerstown Community College.
He was past director and served on the Executive Committee of the Washington County Red Cross; was chairman of the Washington County School Building Commission; and president of Washington County Chamber of Commerce. He was active in The United Way and served as chairman of Hagerstown YMCA Board of Trustees; and as director emeritus of Hagerstown Goodwill Industries.
He is survived by seven nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by a son, George Howard Roe; a sister, Mary Thorne; and three brothers, Walter J. Roe, Winfield S. Roe and Edgar Plummer Roe.
Services will be Monday at 2 p.m. at Minnich Funeral Home, 415 E. Wilson Blvd., Hagerstown. The Rev. Kenneth J. Dorsch and the Rev. Victor Zuck will officiate. Burial will be in Rose Hill Cemetery.
The family will receive friends today from 7 to 9 p.m. at the funeral home.

Evelyn F. Clark
Evelyn Frances Clark, 90, of Hunter Hill Apartments, Hagerstown and formerly of Keedysville, died Saturday, March 6, 1999, at her home.
Born May 10, 1908, in Sharpsburg, she was the daughter of the late George Washington Churchey and Fannie Frances Elizabeth Lewis.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Paul Leon Clark, in 1969.
She was a graduate of Columbia Business College.
She retired as a secretary with Sears in Washington, D.C.; and formerly was employed with Acme Market in Hagerstown.
She was a charter member of Battlefield Bible Church in Fairplay and a former member of Wheaton Presbyterian Church in Wheaton, Md.
She was a member of Order of the Eastern Star in Washington, D.C.; AARP; and Billy Graham Evangelical Association.
She is survived by one grandson, Paul J. Armstrong of Hagerstown, whom she raised; two sisters, Dorothy Edna McCoy of Hagerstown and Thelma Elizabeth Strite of Smithsburg; three brothers, Lloyd Joshua Churchey of Jackson, Mich. and Phoenix; Clifton Lester Churchey and Richard Atlee Churchey, both of Sharpsburg; and a great-granddaughter.
She was preceded in death by two sisters, Ruth Irene Lohman and Josephine Jackson; and three brothers, Howard Churchey, Raymond Churchey and Grover Churchey.
Services will be Tuesday at 10 a.m. at Battlefield Bible Church, Fairplay. Pastor Henry A. Lutz will officiate. Burial will be in Mountain View Cemetery, Sharpsburg.
The family will receive friends Monday from 7 to 9 p.m. at Osborne Funeral Home, 425 S. Conococheague St., Williamsport. For the convenience of family and friends, the funeral home will be open Monday after 9 a.m.

Laurin M. Schick
Laurin Merrill Schick, 81, of 1057 Carroll Heights Blvd., Hagerstown, died Saturday, March 6, 1999, at Washington County Hospital.
Born Aug. 23, 1917, in Columbus, N.M., he was the son of the late Guy Albert and Effie Cleota Powell Schick.
He was an employee of Fairchild Aircraft for 28 years, then was employed by Value Engineering Company for two years and with Mack Trucks for 15 years before retiring in 1982. He also taught electronics at North Hagerstown High School and Hagerstown Junior College part time.
He was a member of Broadfording Bible Brethren Church.
He was a member of Morris Frock Post 42 American Legion; U.S. Naval Reserve; and Mack Management Club.
He is survived by his wife, Alberta Mae King Schick; a sister, Eleanor E. Wise of Orem, Utah; two brothers, Irvin G. Schick of Mount Lebanon, Pa. and Maurice L. Schick; nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by a sister, Wilma Schick.
Graveside services will be Monday at 4 p.m. at Cedar Lawn Memorial Park, 17636 W. Washington St., Hagerstown. Pastor William H. Freed Jr. will officiate. Burial will be in Cedar Lawn Memorial Park, Hagerstown.
There will be no viewing or visitation.
In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to a charity of one's choice.
