Connie J. Bell
OKLAHOMA CITY - Connie J. Bell, 74, of Oklahoma City, and formerly of Washington County, died of respiratory illness Monday, March 15, 1999, at her home.
She was the daughter of the late James and Marie Kerns, who were from Clear Spring.
She and her husband lived in Hagerstown during the 1950s and 1960s and danced in square dance groups.
She was a charter member of Haven Lutheran Church.
She is survived by her husband, Fred Bell; a daughter, Jennifer Mangus of Oklahoma City; a son, Dr. Stephen Bell of Clear Spring; and a brother, Jack Kerns of Timonium, Md.

Earl B. Wolfinger
Earl Bailey Wolfinger, 80, of 366 Central Ave., Hagerstown, died Tuesday, March 16, 1999, at Washington County Hospital.
Born Jan. 14, 1919, in Chewsville, he was the son of the late John L. and Emma Bailey Wolfinger.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Anna M. Williams Wolfinger.
He was employed by Fairchild Aircraft for 28 years.
He served in the U.S. Army during World War II.
He was a member of the AFL-CIO; and AARP.
He is survived by two daughters, Mary A. Smith of Smithsburg and Susie McCammon of Marlowe, W.Va.; three sons, Ralph G. Wolfinger and Earl W. Wolfinger, both of Marlowe, W.Va., and Russell L. Wolfinger of Tilghmanton; a sister, C. Virginia Martin of Hagerstown; 12 grandchildren; and seven great-grandchildren.
Services will be Friday at 1 p.m. at Minnich Funeral Home, 415 E. Wilson Blvd., Hagerstown. The Rev. Don Conley will officiate. Burial will be in Rest Haven Cemetery.
The family will receive friends today from 7 to 9 p.m. at the funeral home.

Leonard E. Shoemaker
Leonard Edward Shoemaker, 81, of 145 E. North Ave., Hagerstown, died Tuesday, March 16, 1999, at Washington County Hospital.
Born Jan. 17, 1918, in Taneytown, Md., he was the son of the late William H. and Nannie Sketon Shoemaker.
He was employed by Halls Motor Transit for 30 years, retiring in 1975.
He was a member of Junior Fire Company No. 3; Loyal Order of Moose 212 of Hagerstown; Williamsport Redmen 84; and the Teamsters Union.
He is survived by his wife, Geraldine E. Nunamaker Shoemaker; two daughters, Shelva J. Smith and Betty L. Reid, both of Hagerstown; a son, Monty L. Shoemaker at home; six grandchildren; 11 great-grandchildren; and two great-great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by two brothers, Lloyd Shoemaker and Hollis Shoemaker.
Memorial services will be Saturday at 11 a.m. at St. Matthew's United Methodist Church, 443 W. Franklin St., Hagerstown. The Rev. Raymond Lytle will officiate. Burial will be at the convenience of the family.
There will be no viewing.
Arrangements are by Minnich Funeral Home, 415 E. Wilson Blvd., Hagerstown.
Helen L. Johnson
Helen Louise Johnson, 88, who formerly lived with her granddaughter, Callista Barnhart on Old Forge Road, Hagerstown, died Thursday, March 18, 1999, at Avalon Manor Nursing Home.
Born Oct. 28, 1910, in Fiddlersburg, Md., she was the daughter of the late Clarence Jack and Emma Hartman Williams.
She was preceded in death by her husband, A. Delmar Johnson, in 1986.
She was a member of Wayside Baptist Church in Leitersburg.
She is survived by a daughter, Rebecca Williams of Maugansville; a son, William R. Johnson of Hagerstown; a stepson, William Williams of Smithsburg; a sister, Mary Thumma of Hagerstown; a granddaughter; 10 great-grandchildren; a step grandson; nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by a daughter, Beverly Ann Bowers; a grandson, Anthony Curtis Bowers; a sister, Anna Mae Grove; and four brothers, Richard Williams, Albert Williams, Frederick Williams and Bud Williams.
Services will be Monday at 11 a.m. at Minnich Funeral Home, 415 E. Wilson Blvd., Hagerstown. The Rev. Odell Stone will officiate. Burial will be in Rest Haven Cemetery.
The family will receive friends Sunday from 7 to 9 p.m. at the funeral home.
Catherine C. Drexel
FREDERICK, Md. - Catherine C. Drexel, 93, of College View Nursing Home, and formerly of 17414 Naylor Road, Sabillasville, Md., died Monday, March 15, 1999, at the nursing home.
Born Sept. 11, 1905, in Baltimore, she was the daughter of the late Charles E. and Margaret Schwab Falter.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Horace T. Drexel, in 1998. They were married
Feb. 26, 1938.
She graduated from Baltimore High School; and she was a 1928 graduate of Victor Cullen School of Nursing.
She had worked for Victor Cullen.
She was a member of Seventh-day Adventist Church, Waynesboro; and National AARP.
She is survived by nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by three sisters and a brother.
Graveside services will be Monday at 1 p.m. at Bethel Church Cemetery, Cascade. Pastor Dean R. Negri will officiate.
There will be no public viewing.

Raymond W. Bittinger Sr.
LONACONING, Md. - Raymond W. Bittinger Sr., 89, of Egle Nursing Home, and formerly of Route 36 North and Hancock, Md., died Wednesday, March 17, 1999, at the nursing home.
Born March 3, 1910, in Jennings, Md., he was the son of the late Jacob and Elizabeth Hoover Bittinger.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Stella Marie Cutter Bittinger, in 1986.
He retired from Celanese Fibers Corp. after 34 years.
He attended Bethel Pentecostal Holiness Church, Lonaconing.
He is survived by three sons, Raymond W. Bittinger Jr. of Cumberland, Md., John C. Bittinger and Paul D. Bittinger, both of Hancock; a sister, Lula Brown of Hancock; nine grandchildren; and eight great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by a son, Melvin W. Bittinger, in January 1999.
Services will be Saturday at 11 a.m. at Eichhorn-McKenzie Funeral Home, Lonaconing. The Rev. George Loar will officiate. Burial will be in Frostburg Memorial Park.
Friends will be received today from 7 to 9 p.m. at the funeral home.
