Roland J. Jordan
BOONSBORO - Roland James Jordan, 76, of 7130 Wheeler Road and formerly of Hudson Falls, N.Y., died Wednesday, March 17, 1999, at Washington County Hospital.
Born May 29, 1922, in Ticonderoga, N.Y., he was the son of the late Freeman and Mildred Simmons Jordan.
He had retired after 36 years from Scott Paper Co., in Fort Edward, N.Y.
A veteran of World War II, he served in the U.S. Army in Central Europe.
He was a member of Christian Holiness Church in Brownsville, Md., and had been an usher.
He is survived by his wife of 54 years, Nellie A. Griffin Jordan; a daughter, Mary R. Palmer of Boonsboro; three grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by a brother, Karl Jordan.
A Home-Going Celebration will be Saturday at 7 p.m. at Christian Holiness Church in Brownsville. The Rev. James Mueller will officiate. Private burial will be in Boonsboro cemetery at the convenience of the family.
There will be no viewing or visitation.

Howard W. Moats
Howard William Moats, 83, of 12441 Gateway Ave., Hagerstown, died Wednesday, March 17, 1999, at Western Maryland Hospital Center in Hagerstown.
Born Aug. 21, 1915, in Hagerstown, he was the son of the late Howard R. and Edith Bloyer Moats.
He retired from Fairchild Industries in Hagerstown after 36 years.
He was of the Protestant faith.
He was a member of Wilson Ruritan Club; and U.A.W. Local 842.
He is survived by his wife, Margaret C. King Moats; two daughters, Shirley Stotelmyer and Edith Miller, both of Hagerstown; four sons, Robert Moats of Williamsport, Gene Moats, Theodore Moats and Joe Moats, all of Hagerstown; four brothers, Charles Moats of Hagerstown, Bruce Moats of State Line, Pa., Paul Moats of Falls Church, Va., and Ray Moats of Florence, Colo.; six grandchildren; and five great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by a grandson, David Moats; and two brothers, George Moats and Grover Moats.
Services will be Saturday at 11 a.m. at Donald Edwin Thompson Funeral Home, 13607 National Pike, Clear Spring. The Rev. Ed Hampton will officiate. Burial will be in Cedar Lawn Memorial Park in Hagerstown.
The family will receive friends today from 7 to 9 p.m. at the funeral home.
Francis W. Knight
SHARPSBURG - Francis W. "Skunk" Knight, 81, of 2402 Harpers Ferry Road, died Thursday, March 18, 1999, at Washington County Hospital.
Born Feb. 5, 1918, in Dargan, he was the son of the late John Christopher and Mary Helen Crampton Knight.
He was employed as a clerk for Washington County Landfill; and had been employed by Victor Products, Hagerstown. He retired from Pangborn Corp., Hagerstown, in 1987.
He served in the U.S. Navy during World War II in the Pacific Theater.
He was a member of Samples Manor Church of God.
He was a member of Potomac Post 236 American Legion, Sharpsburg; Potomac Valley Fire Company, Dargan; and Fire Police of Washington County.
He is survived by his wife, Whylmenia M. "Willie" Ingram Knight; two daughters, Doris L. Shoemaker and Frances Grim, both of Dargan; a granddaughter, Wanda Farris of Hagerstown, whom he raised; 11 grandchildren; 14 great-grandchildren; nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by two sons, David W. Knight and Orville Lee Knight; two sisters; and 10 brothers.
Services will be Sunday at 2 p.m. at Samples Manor Church of God, Harpers Ferry Road, Dargan. The Rev. Roger I. Martin will officiate. Burial with military honors will be in Samples Manor Cemetery, Sharpsburg.
Friends may call Saturday from 7 to 9 p.m. at Osborne Funeral Home, 425 S. Conococheague St., Williamsport. The funeral home will be open after 9 a.m.

June E. Holmes
OMAHA, Neb. - June E. Barkdoll Holmes, of Omaha, and formerly of Hagerstown, died Tuesday, Feb. 23, 1999, at her home.
A veteran of World War II, she served in the U.S. Army Air Corps at Greenville Air Force Base, Greenville, S.C.
She is survived by her husband, Richard Holmes; two daughters, Sandra of Monterey, Calif., and Cheryle of Seattle, Wash.; two sisters, Geraldine of Williamsport and Jean of Hagerstown; a brother, Leon of DuBarry, Fla.; and twin grandsons.
A memorial service was held Wednesday, March 3, at Kountze Lutheran Church, Omaha.

Clara B. Preddy
ASHEBORO, N.C. - Clara Beane Preddy, 88, of 1208 Park Drive, died Thursday, March 18, 1999, at Randolph Hospital, Asheboro.
She was born in Randolph County, N.C.
She retired from Bossong Hosiery Mill, Randolph County.
She was a member of Central United Methodist Church, where she was a member of Christian Homemakers Sunday School Class.
She is survived by her husband, Walter Preddy of Asheboro; a son, Bobby Preddy of Carthage, N.C.; a brother, Owen Beane of Hagerstown; nine grandchildren; and eight great-grandchildren.
Services will be Sunday at 3 p.m. at Central United Methodist Church, Asheboro. The Rev. William Christopher Thore, the Rev. Byron Alexander and the Rev. Joseph Casteele will officiate. Burial will be in Randolph Memorial Park, 4538 U.S. Hwy. 220 Bus. North, Asheboro.
The family will receive friends today from 7 to 9 p.m. at Pugh Funeral Home, 437 Sunset Ave., Asheboro.

Willie E. Thompson
RAPID CITY, S.D. - Willie E. Thompson, 96, of Rapid City and formerly of Chambersburg, Pa., died Monday, March 15, 1999, in Rapid City.
Born Oct. 15, 1902, in Lenox, Ga., he was the son of the late Ervin and Maicy Baldree Thompson.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Alice E. Thompson, on Jan. 16, 1994.
He entered the U.S. Army in 1920 and retired as a captain in 1950. He participated in the Battle of Guadalcanal.
He was a member of American Legion Post 612; VFW; and Elks Lodge 600, all in Pennington County, S.D.
He is survived by his son, William Thompson of Rapid City; eight grandchildren; 14 great-grandchildren; and three great-great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his son, Theodore Thompson.
Graveside services for him and his wife will be Tuesday at 10 a.m. at Lincoln Cemetery. The Rev. Donald C. Nolder will officiate. Members of Charles Nitterhouse Post 1599 VFW will conduct military graveside services.
