Marlene M. Ackwith
Marlene Marie Ackwith, 45, died in her sleep March 15 after an 18-month battle with cancer.
She was a teen-ager when her parents moved from East Baltimore to Gray Manor.
She and her husband, Daniel J. Ackwith, lived in Virginia where she was a broker in the real estate brokerage they owned. They also owned a construction company.
Two months ago, they moved to Charlesmont, so she could be near her family.
She is survived by her husband, daughters Rob-in, Jessica and Brandy Ackwith, mother Angeline Kilgour, sisters Joann Behr, Linda Hash, Barbara Peeples and Kathleen Mayhew and two grandchildren.
Services were held March 19 at Duda-Ruck Funeral Home. She was buried the next day at Meadowridge Memorial Gardens.
David C. Arwood Jr.
Services will be held Thursday, March 23, for David Charles Arwood Jr., 44, who died unexpectedly in a diabetic coma March 18 at Johns Hopkins Bayview Medical Center.
The service begins 11 a.m. at Duda-Ruck Funeral Home, 7922 Wise Ave. Interment will follow at Gardens of Faith Cemetery.
He is survived by a daughter, Jennifer Blev-ins-Arwood, mother Fran-ces Arwood, sisters Deborah Cox and Donna Arwood, brothers Ricky and Wesley Arwood, half-brother Ronald Jachim and many other family members. His father, David Arwood Sr., died in March 1991.
A resident of Joplin Street, he graduated from Patterson High School in 1974.
A journeyman machinist, he worked at Chesapeake Machine Co. in Highlandtown.
Visitation at the funeral home was scheduled for Wednesday, March 22, from 3 to 5 p.m. and 7 to 9 p.m.
Harriet Bailey
Services will be held Friday, March 24, for former elementary school teacher Harriet Estelle Bailey (nee Schwerdtfeger), 88, who died March 20 at St. Agnes Nursing Center in Ellicott City.
The service begins 11 a.m. at Slacks Funeral Home in Ellicott City, followed by interment at Dulaney Valley Memorial Gardens. Friends may visit beginning 10 a.m.
A graduate of West Chester State Teachers College, she taught at Sparrows Point Elementary School until it closed and she was transferred to Bear Creek Elementary. She also taught at Pot Springs Elementary School and St. Dominic’s Catholic School.
During World War II, she worked in the offices of Glenn L. Martin.
Mrs. Bailey belonged to the Balco Club and was a life member of Henry Brecht Chapter 43, Order of the Eastern Star.
A native of Berwyn, Pa., she married Roy Bailey in 1933. They moved to Inverness in 1940 and spent the next 52 years there and in Dundalk and Lodge Forest. In 1992, she moved to Baltimore.
She leaves behind son Roy “Jay” Bailey Jr. of Ellicott City, two grandchildren and two great-grandchildren. She also is survived by her 92-year-old brother, William Schwerdtfeger of Seminole, Fla., and many nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by her husband, an infant son, a sister and two brothers.
Lawrence F. Bienlein Sr.
Lawrence Francis Bienlein Sr., 76, past governor of Dundalk Moose Lodge 1228, died unexpectedly March 5 at Franklin Square Hospital.
Mr. Bienlein joined Dundalk Moose in 1958 and earned the organization’s highest honor, the Pilgrim Degree, in 1979. In addition to governor, he had served in many other offices, including president of the Maryland-Dela-ware-D.C. Moose Association.
A U.S. Army Air Force veteran, he served in the South Pacific during World War II and was a member of Dundalk VFW Post 6694.
He retired in the early 1980s from Ober Woodwork Co. in Baltimore.
Survivors are his wife of 53 years, Anne “Betsy” (nee Shaffer), children Laura, Allen and Law-rence F. Beinlein Jr. and Shirley A. Lindross, seven grandchildren and two great-grandchildren. He was predeceased by a brother, James Beinlein.
Services were held March 9 at Bradley-Ashton-Matthews Funeral Home. Interment was private.

Mary M. Cosgrove
Mary Madeline Cosgrove (nee Grace), 68, died of liver disease March 3 at University of Maryland Hospital. Mrs. Cosgrove lived on St. Claire Lane for 40 years.
Born and raised in Baltimore, she devoted her entire life to her husband and children.
In addition to her husband, Frederick E. Cosgrove, with whom she celebrated 50 years of marriage in November, she will be missed by sons Fred, Mark and Michael Cosgrove, daughters Marie Morris, Mary Trovato and Freda Raffo, sisters Theresa Wojack and Pat McCaslin, 21 grandchildren and 12 great-grandchildren.
A Mass of Christian Burial was conducted March 7 by the Rev. Joseph Lizor at St. Luke’s Catholic Church.
Interment followed at Parkwood Cemetery.
George E. Cummings Sr.
Lifelong Dundalk resident George Edward Cummings Sr. died at home March 9 of pancreatic cancer. He was 57 and lived on Holabird Avenue with his wife of 20 years, the former Nancy Dey, and his father- and mother-in-law, Roy and Lonnie Dey.
Mr. Cummings worked for Consolidated Delivery for 42 years.
Other survivors are son George E. Cummings Jr., daughters Dawn Wiley and Amanda Cummings, three brothers, one sister and many other family members.
Services were held March 10 at Bradley-Ashton-Matthews Funeral Home.

William C. George
William Charles George, 62, died of cancer March 8 at his 47th Street home.
Born and raised in Fells Point, he played lacrosse for Patterson High School until he graduated in 1955.
After high school, he joined the U.S. Air Force and served from 1955 to 1959. He was stationed at Landstule Air Force Base in Germany for most of those four years. He was 22 when he went to work for the Baltimore Sunpapers and was approaching his 40th anniversary with the paper. He was the last of the old-time mailers and was called No. 1 by his co-workers. He was a trustee in Teamsters Mailers Local 888.
He belonged to the Highlandtown Clipper Club, where he was on the board of directors and, as the club’s youngest member, was known as “the kid.”
He liked Baltimore Orioles baseball and University of Maryland basketball and had been a faithful Baltimore Colts football fan.
Survivors are his wife of 40 years, Marleen (nee Packham), daughter Janet Pierorazio of Perry Hall, sister Dorothy Cordes of Charleston, S.C., brother Louis Mueller of Fells Point and one granddaughter.
Services were held March 10 at First Lutheran Church of Gray Manor. Interment followed at Oak Lawn Cemetery.
Judith L. Harthousen
Judith Lynn Harthousen (nee Crouse) died March 4 at home from complications of diabetes. She was 41.
She was a Northshire resident and a 1976 graduate of Patapsco High School. For the past 15 years, she was a sales administrator for Medical Life Insurance Co.
Cooking and shopping were among her favorite pastimes.
She will be missed by her parents, Lorraine and Fern Crouse, sisters Brenda Crouse and Sandy Mastroianni, grandmother Martha Crouse, four neph-ews and one niece.
Services were held March 8 at Duda-Ruck Funeral Home. Interment followed at Oak Lawn Cemetery.
Mary Knight
Mary E. Knight, 99, died March 4 at Heritage Nursing Center.
Born Dec. 29, 1900, in East Baltimore, the former Mary Feldman and her husband lived for a time in Bowleys Quarters. As a widow, she moved to Broening Road in 1982 to live with her daughter, Matilda Korzyniewski. In 1996, she moved to the nursing center.
She spent many years working in can factories, including American and National Can companies in Canton.
Years ago, she was vice president of the ladies auxiliary of the Bowleys Quarters Volunteer Fire Department and a member of its duckpin bowling team.
In addition to her daughter, she is survived by four grandchildren and five great-grandchildren. She was predeceased by her husband, James Knight, and two sons, James Knight and James G. Knight.
Services were held March 7 at Bradley-Ashton-Matthews Funeral Home. Interment followed at Oak Lawn Cemetery.
Carl F. Peters
A Mass of Christian Burial will be held Thursday, March 23, for Carl F. Peters Sr., 77, who died of lung cancer at home March 20.
The Mass begins 10 a.m. at St. Luke Catholic Church, 7517 North Point Road, with interment following at St. Stanislaus Cemetery.
Mr. Peters worked in the Bethlehem Steel Shipyard for 36 years and retired as assistant general superintendent in 1976.
He served in the U.S. Navy during World War II, coached football for the Dundalk YMCA and was past Grand Knight of Dundalk Council 2942, Knights of Columbus. He enjoyed sports, especially golf.
He will be missed by his wife of 53 years, the former Louise K. Keller, son Carl F. Peters Jr., sisters Theresa E. Peters and Frances E. Rosen, and two grandchildren.
Visitation at the funeral home was scheduled for Wednesday, March 22, from 3 to 5 p.m. and 7 to 9 p.m.

Ronald L. Pike
Former Dundalk resident Ronald Leroy Pike of Middle River, 59, died suddenly March 11 at St. Joseph’s Hospital.
Mr. Pike, who was born and raised in Georgia, lived in Dundalk for more than 10 years before moving to Middle River in the early 1990s.
He owned and operated Bass Upholstery, a car and boat upholstery business in Essex. His professional and personal specialty was restoring the interiors of antique automobiles.
He is survived by son Lawrence J. Pike, daughter Lynette D. Sutherland, brother Thomas Pike, sister Jean Vigneri and seven grandchildren. He also leaves behind longtime companion Beverly Jackson.
A private memorial service was held March 18.
Josephine L. Urban
Josephine Loretta Urban (nee Razmus), 80, died of heart disease Feb. 29 at her home on 48th Street.
Born in Lily, Pa., she moved to 48th Street in the early 1950s. Before she married in 1946, she worked at the Hecht Co. in downtown Baltimore for about five years.
“She was happiest when she was cooking for family get-togethers. She always loved entertaining her family,” said her husband of 53 years, Alex L. Urban, whom she married at Sacred Heart of Mary Church in 1946. He added that when she wasn’t cooking, she watched cooking shows on television.
Other survivors are son Leonard A. Urban of Carney, daughter Patricia A. Hyder of Charleston, S.C., and one grandson. She was predeceased by four brothers.
A Mass of Christian Burial was held March 3 at Sacred Heart of Mary Church. She was buried at Sacred Heart of Jesus Cemetery.
