Harold J. Hovermale
Harold Joseph Hovermale, 66, of 364 S. Cleveland Ave., Hagerstown, died Tuesday, March 23, 1999, at his home.
Born Feb. 11, 1933, in Washington County, he was the son of the late William P. and Ada Pearl Long Hovermale.
He was employed by Jamison Door Co. for 42 years.
A veteran of the Korean War, he served in the U.S. Marine Corps.
He was a member of Harvest Baptist Church.
He was a member of Williamsport Redmen Tribe 84, American Legion, Morris Frock Post 42, AMVETS Post 10, and VFW of Greencastle, Pa.
He is survived by one son, Steven Hovermale of Winnesboro, S.C.; six sisters, Joyce Marconi of Greencastle, Retha Shank of Clear Spring, Peggy Plotner of Centralia, Wash., and Marie Hart, Jeanne Schaeffer and Nancy Clingerman, all of Hagerstown; three brothers, Robert Hovermale and Don Hovermale, both of Hagerstown, and Gary Hovermale of San Antonio; one grandson; and his fiance, Nancy Gluck of Hagerstown.
He was preceded in death by one daughter, Donna Hovermale; and two brothers, William Hovermale Jr. and Russell Hovermale.
Services will be Saturday at 11 a.m. at Minnich Funeral Home, 415 E. Wilson Blvd., Hagerstown. Pastor James Moore will officiate. Burial will be in Cedar Lawn Memorial Park, with military honors by American Legion, Morris Frock Post 42.
The family will receive friends at the funeral home Friday from 7 to 9 p.m.
Mildred B. Will
BOONSBORO - Mildred Bittinger Will, 94, of Fahrney-Keedy Memorial Home, and formerly of 9737 Beaver Creek Church Road, Hagerstown, died Wednesday, March 24, 1999, at the nursing home.
Born Aug. 1, 1904, in Bittinger, Md., she was the daughter of the late James Floyd and Jennie Belle Bowser Bittinger.
She was preceded in death by her first husband, Sydney Bromwell; and her second husband, Albert E. Will.
She graduated from Broadway Girls' High School; and Blue Ridge College in New Windsor, Md. She received a degree from Bridgewater College in Bridgewater, Va., and attended Columbia Business College.
She taught elementary school in Garrett County, Md., then taught at Federalsburg (Md.) High School. She later taught at Thurmont (Md.) High School, and retired from teaching at Frederick (Md.) High School.
She was a member of Hagerstown Church of the Brethren, had helped in the church office, was superintendent of the Primary Department, and was a member of Personal Worker's Class and New Horizons Retired Group. She sang in the church choir.
She had been a member of Mesidian Club; and Frederick County Teacher's Association.
She is survived by a sister, Alice Bittinger of Fahrney-Keedy Memorial Home; a nephew, Cecil C. Bittinger of Hagerstown; a great-niece; a great-nephew; three great-great-nephews; and twin cousins, Jennie B. Miller of Hampton, Va., and Chic Chic I'Barra of Phoenix, whom she helped raise.
She was preceded in death by a brother, Cecil Bittinger.
Services will be Saturday at 11 a.m. at Fahrney-Keedy Chapel, 8507 Mapleville Road, Boonsboro. The Rev. Dean M. Miller will officiate. Burial will be in Rest Haven Cemetery.
The family will receive friends Saturday at 10 a.m. at the chapel.

Roy W. Brown
Roy Welden Brown, 74, of 321 S. Mulberry St., Hagerstown, died Thursday, March 25, 1999, at his home.
Born June 2, 1924, in Waynesboro, Pa., he was the son of the late Roy B. Brown and Clara L. Hawk.
He retired from Allegheny Pepsi Co. in 1986 after 30 years of service. He was employed by Weis Markets at the time of his death.
He was a member of Maranatha Brethren Church.
He is survived by three daughters, Teresa A. Wilhide, Debra K. Carty and Cindy L. Brown, all of Hagerstown; a brother, Delmar V. Brown of Hagerstown; and five grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by a son, Jack T. Brown; and two brothers, Kenneth and Paul Brown.
Services will be Monday at 11 a.m. at Douglas A. Fiery Funeral Home, 1331 Eastern Blvd. North, Hagerstown. The Rev. Jay M. Fretz will officiate. Burial will be in Cedar Lawn Memorial Park, Hagerstown.
Visitation will be Monday one hour before the services at the funeral home.

Mary C. Holmes
Mary Catherine Holmes, 91, of 47 Devonshire Road, Hagerstown, died Friday, March 26, 1999, at her home.
Born Nov. 10, 1907, in Brunswick, Md., she was the daughter of the late Rudolph and Annabelle Marshall Hardy.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Carroll Holmes, on Aug. 9, 1998.
She was previously employed by Interwoven and by Hagerstown Shoe Co.
She was a member of Hagerstown Bible Church, Adult Bible Class and Women's Missionary Circle.
She is survived by a stepdaughter, Esther Smith of Boonsboro; two stepsons, Ralph Holmes of Hagerstown and Wallace Holmes of Boonsboro; a brother, James W. Hardy of Boonsboro; three step grandchildren; seven step great-grandchildren; and nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by three brothers, George W. Hardy, Henry F. Hardy and Charles E. Hardy.
Services will be Tuesday at 1 p.m. at Hagerstown Bible Church, 203 Summit Ave., Hagerstown. The Rev. Dale R. Carver will officiate. Burial will be in Rest Haven Cemetery.

Anna M. Martin
Anna Marie Martin, 81, of 553 Frederick St., Hagerstown, died Friday, March 26, 1999, at Ravenwood Lutheran Village, Hagerstown.
Born Aug. 5, 1917, in Williamsport, she was the daughter of the late Norman B. and Pearl E. Anderson Sterling.
Her husband, Paul Kenneth Martin, died in 1994.
She was a member of Otterbein United Methodist Church for more than 63 years and also the Sterling-Bell Sunday School Class, Senior Choir and United Methodist Women.
She was a member of AARP.
She is survived by two daughters, P. JoAnn Todd of Frederick, Md., and Paula Kay Martin of Conyers, Ga.; four sisters, Mary Mills of Laurel Dale, Pa., and Jane Springer, Betty Burger and Nora Moser, all of Hagerstown; five grandchildren; eight great-grandchildren; and nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by a sister, Mae Baker; and three brothers, Lee Sterling Sr., Norman Sterling and Ralph Sterling.
Services will be held Monday at 11 a.m. at Minnich Funeral Home, 415 E. Wilson Blvd., Hagerstown. The Rev. Stephen D. Robison and Bishop Joseph H. Yeakle will officiate. Burial will be in Rest Haven Cemetery.
The family will receive friends at the funeral home Sunday from 7 to 9 p.m.

Mellie V. Stevens
Mellie V. Stevens, 92, of 9946 Downsville Pike, Hagerstown, and formerly of Berkeley Springs, W.Va., died Friday, March 26, 1999, at Clearview Nursing Home, Hagerstown.
Born June 10, 1906, in Carter County, Ky., she was the daughter of the late Monroe and Martha Blevins Bryant.
She was preceded in death by her husband, James Levi Stevens, in 1984.
She was a homemaker.
She is survived by a daughter, Dolly J. Keller of Williamsport; five sons, James C. Stevens of Tilghmanton, Md., Kenneth R. Stevens of Berkeley Springs, O.M. "Curley" Stevens of Marlowe, W.Va., and Billy R. Stevens and Curtis G. Stevens, both of Hagerstown; 27 grandchildren; 59 great-grandchildren; and 34 great-great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by a daughter, Dessie N. Hall; three sisters, Grace Bryant, Virgie Bryant and Julie Bryant; and three brothers, Bert Bryant, Vige Bryant and Ayers Bryant.
Services will be Tuesday at 2 p.m. at Bast Funeral Home, 7606 Old National Pike, Boonsboro. The Rev. Wilbur Benner will officiate. Burial will be in Fairview Cemetery, Keedysville.
The family will receive friends Monday from 7 to 9 p.m. at the funeral home.
