Frank D. Barlup
Frank Donald Barlup, 86, of Ravenwood Lutheran Nursing Home, and formerly of Little Antietam Road, Leitersburg, died Monday, Feb. 1, 1999, at the nursing home.
Born June 15, 1912, in Zullinger, Pa., he was the son of the late Clarence A. and Nancy M. Koons Barlup.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Eva Miller Barlup, in 1986.
He worked on the family farm and at shops in the Waynesboro, Pa., area. He and his wife then owned and operated a farm in Leitersburg. He worked as a security guard for Gruman Aerospace in Leesburg, Va., retiring in 1977. He farmed until 1996.
He was a member of St. Peters Beard Lutheran Church, Hagerstown, was a deacon, elder, church treasurer and was active in maintenance of the church and grounds.
He was a member of National AARP.
He is survived by one daughter, Donna Barlup Hill of Maugansville; one son, Richard A. Barlup of Leitersburg; one brother, Thomas M. Barlup of Zullinger; six grandchildren; eight great-grandchildren; and nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by one daughter, Virginia B. Woods; two sisters, Emma Tyminski and Lula Kahl; six brothers, C. Hubert Barlup, Wilmer Barlup, Herman Barlup, Richard Barlup, Mark Barlup and his twin brother, B. Ronald Barlup.
Services will be Friday at 1:30 p.m. at St. Peters Beard Lutheran Church, Hagerstown. The Rev. Carroll L. Boyer will officiate. Burial will be in Leitersburg Lutheran Cemetery.
The family will receive friends Thursday from 7 to 8 p.m. at Grove Funeral Home, 50 S. Broad St., Waynesboro.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to St. Peters Beard Lutheran Church, 21348 Old Forge Road, Hagerstown, MD 21742.
Reid K. Nicholson
Reid Kennedy Nicholson, 100, formerly of 11 N. Baltimore St., and a resident of Reeder's Memorial Home in Boonsboro, died Tuesday, Feb. 2, 1999, at the home.
Born June 9, 1898, in Baltimore, he was the son of Charles Kennedy and Elizabeth Virginia Eby Nicholson.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Sarah Elizabeth Shenton Nicholson, in 1990.
He was employed by Glenn L Martin Aircraft, retiring in 1961.
A veteran of the U.S. Army, he served in World War I.
He was of the Methodist faith.
He was a member of Antietam American Legion Post 236 of Sharpsburg.
He is survived by two daughters, Joyce Elizabeth Bentz of Sharpsburg and Bonnie Jane Dostal of Pensacola, Fla.; six grandchildren; eight great-grandchildren; and four great-great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by one granddaughter.
Graveside services will be today at 11 a.m. in Mount View Cemetery, Sharpsburg. The Rev. Darrell Layman will officiate.
There will be no viewing.

Donald M. Eigenbrode
Donald M. Eigenbrode, 82, of Moller Parkway, died Monday, Feb. 1, 1999, at Washington County Hospital.
Born Nov. 10, 1916, in Waynesboro, Pa., he was the son of the late Maurice L. and Alice Belle Naugle Eigenbrode.
He was a member of Elks Lodge 378 of Hagerstown, Eagles Club of Waynesboro and AARP.
He is survived by his wife, Jane L Shuff Eigenbrode; two sons, Maurice E. Eigenbrode of Great Meadows, N.J., and Ernest L. Eigenbrode of Bowie, Md.; four sisters, Miriam Pryor, Virginia Peiffer, June Cool and Mary Jane Etter, all of Waynesboro; one brother, John Eigenbrode of Waynesboro; four grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by one brother, George Eigenbrode.
Private graveside services will be at the convenience of the family in Rest Haven Cemetery.
There will be no viewing.
Arrangements are by Davis Funeral Home, Smithsburg.
Clarence Shoup
Clarence Shoup, 84, formerly of 406 McDowell Ave., Hagerstown, died Monday, Feb. 1, 1999, at Washington County Hospital.
Born Nov. 3, 1914, in Hagerstown, he was the son of the late Amos Shoup.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Margaret Josephine Shoup, in 1987.
He was retired from Pangborn Corp.
He was a member of St. Matthew's United Methodist Church.
He is survived by a son, Wayne A. Shoup of Hagerstown; a sister, Mary Sodergren of Hagerstown; a brother, Harry Shoup of Georgia; a granddaughter; and four great-grandchildren.
Memorial services will be Thursday at 7 p.m. at Minnich Funeral Home, 415 E. Wilson Blvd., Hagerstown. The Rev. Raymond Lytle will officiate.
Burial will be at the convenience of the family in Cedar Lawn Memorial Park.
There will be no viewing.
Marguerite M. Barr
Marguerite Marie "Ditty" Barr, 75, of 410 Mitchell Ave., Hagerstown, died Monday, Feb. 1, 1999, at her home.
Born Feb. 20, 1923, in Smithsburg, she was the daughter of the late Daniel and Goldie Pryor Wissinger.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Paul H. Barr Jr., in 1996. They were married
Nov. 2, 1946.
She was a member of First Christian Church; and Robinwood Church of God.
She is survived by a daughter, Pat Henson of Hagerstown; a son, Arnold Chris Barr Sr. of Hagerstown; a brother, Arnold Wissinger of Hagerstown; three grandchildren; and a close friend, Charles R. Hose of Hagerstown.
Services will be Thursday at 1 p.m. at Minnich Funeral Home, 415 E. Wilson Blvd., Hagerstown. Pastor Henry Marquiss will officiate. Burial will be in Rest Haven Cemetery.
The family will receive friends today from 7 to 9 p.m. at the funeral home.
Sylvester F. Hose Sr.
Sylvester Franklin Hose Sr., 79, of 26 S. Locust St., died Monday, Feb. 1, 1999, at his home.
Born Oct. 24, 1919, in Williamsport, he was the son of the late Earl Franklin and Hazel Irene Sharer Hose.
He worked at W.D. Byron Tannery in Williamsport for 44 years, retiring in 1982.
A veteran of the U.S. Navy, he served during World War II.
He was a member of Grace United Methodist Church.
He was a member of Hagerstown Suns Fan Club.
He is survived by his wife of 58 years, Jane Bowers Hose; five daughters, Catherine J. Tracy of Smithsburg, and Airy A. Shifflett, Vickie M. Kirk, Diane Schiano DiCola and Linda S. Smith, all of Hagerstown; five sons, S. Franklin Hose Jr. of Funkstown, Doug E. Hose Sr. of Williamsport, and Terry L. Hose Sr., Jerry L. Hose Sr. and Paul E. Hose, all of Hagerstown; two sisters, Stella Sacery of Waynesboro, Pa., and Henrietta Weller of Hancock; four brothers, Paul Hose of Clear Spring, Alvey Hose of Williamsport, Clyde Hose of Melbourne Beach, Fla., and Harry Hose of Halfway; 21 grandchildren; and 20 great-grandchildren.
Services will be Thursday at 1 p.m. at Grace United Methodist Church, Church and Winter streets. The Rev. Darryl Zoller will officiate. Burial will be in Rose Hill cemetery with military honors.
Visitation will be today from 7 to 9 p.m. at Gerald N. Minnich Funeral Home, 305 N. Potomac St., Hagerstown.
