Esther M. Martin
Esther Marie Martin, 74, of 14624 Greencastle Pike, died Monday, Feb. 1, 1999, at her home.
Born July 2, 1924, in Altenwald, Quincy Township, Pa., she was the daughter of Edna B. West Stoops of Waynesboro, Pa., and the late Merle E. Stoops.
She graduated from Quincy High School.
She was a school bus driver for Washington County schools for 20 years. She previously worked as an office clerk at Waynesboro Knitting Mill.
She was a member of Hollowell Brethren in Christ Church in Waynesboro, was a Sunday school teacher in the primary and secondary departments and sang in the senior choir. She and her husband served as a deacon couple for 39 years.
She was a member of National AARP.
In addition to her mother, she is survived by her husband of 52 years, Ezra B. Martin; two daughters, Ruth E. Reiff and Lois M. Snodderly, both of Hagerstown; and four grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by one brother, Edwin L. Stoops, in 1997.
Memorial services will be Saturday at 2 p.m. at Hollowell Brethren in Christ Church, 14807 Hollowell Church Road, Waynesboro. The Rev. James M. Sollenberger, the Rev. Eber Dourte and Pastor Lee E. Nunemaker Jr. will officiate. Private burial services will be in Green Hill cemetery in Waynesboro at the convenience of the family.
The family will receive friends Saturday following the memorial service at the church.
There will be no public viewing.

Robert E. Davis
CLEAR SPRING - Robert Eugene "Bud" Davis, 63, of 14353 National Pike, died Tuesday, Feb. 2, 1999, at the University of Maryland Hospital in Baltimore.
Born Sept. 17, 1935, in Funkstown, he was the son of the late Frank Davis and Dorothy Wolford Davis Lucas.
He was a 1953 graduate of Merrill Dobbins High School in Philadelphia.
He was employed as a quality assurance supervisor for Mack Trucks in Hagerstown for 37 years.
He was treasurer of Mack Management Club; a member of RJD Hunting Club; Men's Thursday Night Classic Bowling League; and Friday Flying Feathers Bowling League, all in Hagerstown.
He was a veteran of the U.S. Army Signal Corps.
He was a member of St. Peter's Lutheran Church, Clear Spring.
He is survived by his wife, Dixie L. Wilhide Davis, whom he married
Aug. 30, 1957; two sons, Christopher L. Davis of Williamsport and Dr. Terry L. Davis of Waynesboro, Pa.; two sisters, Louise Dawson of Hagerstown and Kathy Navas of Glenolden, Pa.; two brothers, James Bailey of Hagerstown and Jon Davis of Phoenix; and two grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by a brother, Kenneth Lee Davis.
Services will be Friday at 11 a.m. in the chapel of Bast Funeral Home, 7606 Old National Pike, Boonsboro. The Rev. Mark Sandell and the Rev. Andrew Carr will officiate. Burial will be in Fairview Cemetery, Keedysville.
The family will receive friends today from 7 to 9 p.m. at the funeral home.

Birtrand P. Miskell Sr.
FREDERICK, Md. - Birtrand Penrose "Bart" Miskell Sr., 73, of Frederick, died Monday, Feb. 1, 1999, at Frederick Health Care Center.
Born Oct. 23, 1925, in Lucketts, Va., he was the son of the late Fairfax M. and Genieve Maggie Stallings Miskell.
He worked for B&O Railroad for 44 years as a flagman and conductor, retiring in 1988.
He was a member of Brotherhood of Railroad Trainmen and United Transportation Union, and was local chairman for 32 years. He was secretary of Maryland Legislature, Board of the Brotherhood of the United Transportation Union. He was a member of B&O Veterans.
He was a member of Fraternal Order of Moose Lodge 371, Frederick; Fraternal Order of Eagles, Aerie 1136 of Brunswick, Md.; and Fervency Post 200 Masonic Lodge A.F.&A.M., Point of Rocks, Md.
He was a member of Calvary United Methodist Church, Frederick.
He is survived by his wife of 53 years, Marian Ann Wenner Miskell; two daughters, Wanda Lee Smith of Monkton, Md., and Carol Ann Smith of North Potomac, Md.; one son, Birtrand P. Miskell Jr. of Frederick; four sisters, Anna Eigenbrode of Denton, Md., Dora Athey of Frederick, Virginia Campbell of Charles Town, W.Va., and Mary Madeline Pearl of Brunswick; three brothers, Jesse L. Miskell of Dargan, Richard F. Miskell of Hampstead, Md., and William Miskell of Damascus, Md.; five grandchildren; nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by a sister, Emma Catherine Mohr; and two brothers, Luther M. Miskell and Charles Miskell.
Services will be Saturday at 11 a.m. at Stauffer Funeral Home, 1621 Opossumtown Pike, Frederick. The Rev. Gaye S. Smith will officiate. Burial will be in Mount Olivet Cemetery, Frederick.
The family will receive friends at the funeral home today and Friday from 2 to 4 p.m. and 7 to 9 p.m.

Edward J. Biegun
Edward John Biegun, 67, of 1349-B Salem Ave., Hagerstown, died Sunday, Jan. 31, 1999, at his home.
Born April 26, 1931, in Shamokin, Pa., he was the son of the late Walter Edward and Anna Cecelia Liszrusha Biegun.
He was a graduate of Coal Township (Pa.) High School.
He joined the U.S. Navy in 1948 and left active duty in 1968 as an E-6. He was discharged from the U.S. Navy in 1978. He served on the USS Midway, USS Bon Homme Richard and USS Franklin D. Roosevelt. He trained recruits at the U.S. Naval Training Center in San Diego from 1965-1968.
He was employed by Marriott Corp. in Arlington, Va., and Richmond, Va., and previously with Asbury Methodist Village, Gaithersburg, Md., and Homewood Retirement Center, Frederick, Md.
He was a member of St. Joseph Catholic Church, Halfway.
He was a member of Mount Airy American Legion Post 191, served as commander of the color guard and was a founding member.
He is survived by his wife, Wendy A. Biegun; three daughters, Deborah Boone of Mount Airy, Kelly Hemphill and Tracy Penrod, both of Phoenix; two sons, retired Senior Master Sgt. Michael Biegun of Goldsboro, N.C., and Air Force Capt. Christopher Biegun, of San Pedro, Calif.; two sisters, Jean Kapushinski of Lewes, Del., and Patty Drumheiser of Coal Township; one brother, Al Biegun of Buford, N.C.; 11 grandchildren; and one great-granddaughter.
He was preceded in death by a daughter, Robyn Biegun.
A memorial Mass will be celebrated Saturday, Feb. 20, at 11 a.m. at St. Joseph Catholic Church, Hagerstown, with the Rev. Christopher P. Moore and Timothy D. Enright, as celebrants. Burial will be at sea from a U.S. Navy ship.
There will be no viewing.

Margaret E. Fling
BRUNSWICK, Md. - Margaret Elizabeth "Cubby" Fling, 79, of 510 Brunswick St., died Wednesday, Feb. 3, 1999, at her home.
Born Oct. 18, 1919, in Frederick, Md., she was the daughter of the late Jerome J. and Virgil Welty Hoffman Sr.
She was a retired employee of GEICO Insurance Co.
She was of the Protestant faith.
She is survived by a daughter, Sharon L. Capino of Knoxville, Md.; two sons, Larry K. Paxson of Brunswick and William H. Myers Jr. of Frederick; eight grandchildren; and seven great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by two sisters, Ruth E. Cornelius and Charlotte H. Scarff; and a brother, Jerome J. Hoffman Jr.
Services will be Monday at 11 a.m. at John T. Williams Funeral Home, 100 Petersville Road, Brunswick. The Rev. Carter Carr will officiate. Burial will be in Park Heights Cemetery, Brunswick.
The family will receive friends Saturday and Sunday from 7 to 9 p.m. at the funeral home, which will be open Sunday from 9 a.m.
Mildred E. Rutherford
GRASSY CREEK, N.C. - Mildred Ellen Wagg Rutherford, 57, of Grassy Creek, died Wednesday, Feb. 3, 1999, at Forsyth Medical Center in Winston-Salem, N.C.
Born April 1, 1941, in Kent, Md., she was the daughter of James Edward and Dora Alice Blevins Wagg.
She was a homemaker.
She is survived by her husband, Larry Rutherford; three daughters, Deborah Ebersole of Big Cove Tannery, Pa., Karen Pittman of Berkeley Springs, W.Va., and Brenda Turner of Hancock; a sister, Dorothy Hyatts of Maryland; and six grandsons.
She was preceded in death by a brother, William F. Wagg.
A memorial service will be held today at 7 p.m. at Shiloh Missionary Baptist Church in Grassy Creek. The Rev. Warner Eller will officiate.
The family will receive friends today at 6 p.m. at the church.
