Sarah L. Levi
Sarah Lorraine Levi, 82, of Julia Manor Health Care Center, 333 Mill St., Hagerstown, died Wednesday, Feb. 10, 1999, at the health care center.
Born July 12, 1916, in Hagerstown, she was the daughter of the late Mildred Levi.
She attended North Street School.
She worked in food service; and as a housekeeper.
She was a member of Second Christian Church.
She was a member of Senior Citizen Club.
She is survived by a foster son, Steven of Hagerstown; two sisters, Alice and Cora, both of Hagerstown; three children, Theo, Traci and Maurice, all of Hagerstown; nieces; nephews.
She was preceded in death by a sister and three brothers.
Services will be Monday at 11 a.m. at Second Christian Church, Hagerstown. The Rev. RoseAnn Duckett will officiate. Burial will be in Cedar Lawn Cemetery.
The viewing will be Monday at 10 a.m. at the church.
Arrangements are by Watson Funeral Home, 24 W. Bethel St., Hagerstown.
Charles W. Hammond
WILLIAMSPORT - Charles Walter "Chalk" Hammond, 94, of Milestone Garden Apartments, died Wednesday, Feb. 10, 1999, at Washington County Hospital.
Born Oct. 15, 1904, in Taneytown, Md., he was the son of the late Christian Albert and Molly Jane Marmaduke Hammond.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Margaret Grace Hammond, in 1981.
He had been a farmer and truck driver.
He was a member of St. James Brethren Church.
He was a previous member of Masonic Eureka Lodge 105 of Sharpsburg. He was a member of Medairy Lodge 140 AF & AM of Williamsport; Fraternal Order of Eagles 694; Fairplay Ruritan Club; and AARP. He was a charter and life member of Potomac Fish and Game Club.
He is survived by a granddaughter, Mary A. Warner of Chambersburg, Pa.; two grandsons, Jan D. Hammond and Hal D. Hammond, both of Hagerstown; nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by a son, Jean W. Hammond in 1983; three sisters; and eight brothers.
Services will be Monday at 11 a.m. at Minnich Funeral Home, 415 E. Wilson Blvd., Hagerstown. The Rev. Brian H. Moore will officiate. Burial will be in Rose Hill Cemetery.
The family will receive friends Sunday from 7 to 9 p.m. at the funeral home, where members of Medairy Lodge 140 AF & AM will conduct a memorial service at 7 p.m.

Myrtis J. Powell
Myrtis J. Powell, 77, of 13524 Herman Myers Road, Hagerstown, died Wednesday, Feb. 10, 1999, at Western Maryland Hospital Center.
Born Oct. 15, 1921, in Orlando, N.C., she was the daughter of the late Robert J. and Allevia Rawls Powell.
She was employed by Sears Roebuck and Company for 25 years, retiring in 1978.
She was of the Baptist faith.
She is survived by her husband of 59 years, Hudson R. Powell; two sons, Robert R. Powell of Clear Spring and Carroll E. Powell of Hagerstown; a sister, Sybil Woods of Woodland, N.C.; a brother, Randolph Powell of Woodland; five grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by a daughter, Wanda Powell; two sisters, Julia Howard and Vidia Bradley; and three brothers, Cecil Powell, Russell Powell and Arthur Powell.
Services will be Saturday at 11 a.m. at Andrew K. Coffman Funeral Home, 40 E. Antietam St., Hagerstown. The Rev. Ernest W. Thompson will officiate. Burial will be in Rest Haven Cemetery.
The family will receive friends today from 7 to 9 p.m. at the funeral home.

Daisy V. Turner
Daisy Virginia Turner, 62, of 210 East Ave., Hagerstown, died Wednesday, Feb. 10, 1999, at Washington County Hospital.
Born April 22, 1936, in Hagerstown, she was the daughter of the late Eldridge Jack and Margaret Elizabeth Shoemaker Gaynor.
She attended Hagerstown Church of God.
She was a member of AARP.
She is survived by her husband of 33 years, Calvin E. Turner; a daughter, Kelly E. Nave of Hagerstown; two sons, Mark L. Beachley of Port Charlotte, Fla., and Brian K. Beachley of Hagerstown; a sister, Shirley L. Dofflemyer of Big Pool; three grandchildren; a great-grandson; nieces and nephews.
Services will be Saturday at 11 a.m. in the chapel of Douglas A. Fiery Funeral Home, 1331 Eastern Blvd. North, Hagerstown. The Rev. Carroll L. Boyer will officiate. Burial will be in Rose Hill Cemetery, Hagerstown.

Carlton E. Metcalfe Sr.
Carlton Eugene Metcalfe Sr., 35, of 348 S. Locust St., Hagerstown, died Tuesday, Feb. 9, 1999, at his home.
Born April 16, 1963, in Baltimore, he was the son of the late Floyd Peterson and the late Charlotte J. Kegarise Mellott.
He was employed by Stanley Kegarise Quality Roofing.
He is survived by a son, Carlton E. Metcalfe Jr. of Hagerstown; a sister, Carolyn Campbell of Waycross, Ga.; stepfather, Marvin Mellott of Hagerstown; two nephews; aunts and uncles.
Services will be Monday at 1 p.m. at Minnich Funeral Home, 415 E. Wilson Blvd., Hagerstown. The Rev. Louis L. Emerick will officiate. Burial will be in Rose Hill Cemetery.

James A. Nokes
KNOXVILLE, Md. - James Arthur Nokes, 86, of 2215 Kaetzel Road, died Wednesday, Feb. 10, 1999, at Jefferson Memorial Hospital in Ranson, W.Va.
Born Aug. 8, 1912, in Yarrowsburg, Md., he was the son of the late Arthur and Nellie Younkins Nokes.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Dorothy Etta Nokes, in 1992.
He was a retired flagman for the B&O Railroad in Brunswick, Md.
He was a member of Brownsville Church of the Brethren.
He is survived by a daughter, Sylvia D. Mullenix of Knoxville; a son, James L. Nokes of Knoxville; a sister, Margie Danner of Knoxville; six grandchildren; and eight great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by a son, Vincent Perry Nokes.
Services will be Sunday at 2:30 p.m. at Brownsville Church of the Brethren. The Rev. R. Thomas Fralin Jr. will officiate. Burial will be in Old Brownsville Cemetery.
