Edwin C. Palmer
SHARPSBURG - Edwin C. Palmer, 89, of 115 E. Chapline St., died Friday, Feb. 12, 1999, at his home.
Born Sept. 3, 1909, in Middletown, Md., he was the son of the late James Otis and Nellie Rice Palmer.
He was preceded in death by his wife, B. Adele Mongan Palmer, in 1957.
He was employed by Fairchild Aircraft for 25 years, retiring in 1972.
He was a Protestant.
He was a member of Ali Ghan Shrine Temple, Cumberland, Md.; AF&AM Mediary Lodge 140, Williamsport; National Rifle Association; and Board of Commission on Aging. He was a former Sharpsburg mayor for eight years, Town Council member for four years and a past member of Washington County Sanitary Commission.
He was preceded in death by sisters and brothers.
Graveside services will be Monday at 10 a.m. at Mountain View Cemetery, Sharpsburg. The Rev. Richard Hembrock will officiate.
There will be no viewing.
Arrangements are by Osborne Funeral Home, Williamsport.
Hazel C. Garnand
SMITHSBURG - Hazel C. Garnand, 86, of Blue Mountain Estates, also of Pondsville, Md., died Friday, Feb. 12, 1999, at Washington County Hospital.
Born Dec. 14, 1912, in Reed, Md., she was the daughter of the late Walter and Margaret Myers Shank.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Oscar Earl Garnand, in 1965.
She was a member of Black Rock Bible Church, Hagerstown.
She is survived by a daughter, Shirley I. Monninger of Smithsburg; a son, Ralph E. Garnand of Hagerstown; a sister, Helen Long of Hagerstown; six grandchildren; and seven great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by a son, Gerald Eugene Garnand.
Services will be Monday at 2 p.m. at Davis Funeral Home, 12525 Bradbury Ave., Smithsburg. The Revs. Dwight Morgan, Paul Heefner and Keith Fuller will officiate. Burial will be in Mount Lena Cemetery.
The family will receive friends Sunday from 7 to 9 p.m. at the funeral home.

James H. Rippeon
MYERSVILLE, Md. - James H. Rippeon, 72, of 3633-A Brethren Church Road, died Friday, Feb. 12, 1999, at Washington County Hospital.
Born Nov. 5, 1926, in Frederick, Md., he was the son of the late Lester Harrison and Annie Crum Rippeon.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Ethel May Rippeon.
He was employed by Peoples Drug Store until his retirement; and then was employed by Software Services Inc.
He attended Harmony Church of the Brethren, Myersville.
He is survived by four children, James R. Rippeon and Kenneth L. Rippeon, both of Myersville, Cindy L. Welty of North Carolina and Robert L. Rippeon of Boonsboro; two sisters, Eleanor G. Hargett of Frederick and Ada I. Jessee of Big Pool, Md.; two brothers, Donald L. Rippeon of Frederick and Gene A. Rippeon of Big Pool; nine grandchildren; two great-grandchildren; and his companion, Geraldine Krouse.
He was preceded in death by two sisters, Charlotte Simpson and Frances Wiles; and three brothers, Lester Z. Rippeon, Grayson L. Rippeon and Murray H. Rippeon.
Services will be Monday at 11 a.m. at Donald B. Thompson Funeral Home, 31 E. Main St., Middletown. The Rev. Tracy Wiser, pastor of Harmony Church of the Brethren, will officiate. Burial will be in Mount Olivet Cemetery, Frederick.

Virginia D. Jarcy
GAPLAND, Md. - Virginia Dawn Jarcy, 55, of 3522 Rohrersville Road, died Friday, Feb. 12, 1999, at Frederick Health Care Center, Frederick, Md.
Born Oct. 10, 1943, in Philadelphia, she was the daughter of the late Bob Weidler and Edna Smith Weidler Webber.
She was the manager of Buckeystown Antiques, Buckeystown, Md.
She is survived by her husband, Edward Joseph Jarcy, whom she married
in 1961; four sons, Edward B. Jarcy of Frederick, William R. Jarcy, Michael R. Jarcy and Richard T. Jarcy, all of Boonsboro; a brother, Bernard Weidler of Lanham, Md.; and seven grandchildren.
Graveside services will be Monday at 10:30 a.m. at Boonsboro Cemetery.
The family will receive friends Sunday from 7 to 9 p.m. at Bast Funeral Home, 7606 Old National Pike, Boonsboro.
Richard H. Gruber
WILLIAMSPORT - Richard Henry Gruber, 79, of Edward Doub Road, died Saturday, Feb. 13, 1999, at Washington County Hospital.
Born in Williamsport, he was the son of the late Richard H. and Grace E. Clopper Gruber.
He was a 1939 graduate of Williamsport High School.
He worked as a pipe and steam fitter for Mack Trucks until retiring in 1978. He was vice president of Gruber Building, Cleaning and Restoration Inc. for the past 30 years.
He served with the U.S. Army for two years.
He was a member of Zion Evangelical Lutheran Church in Williamsport.
He was a member of Medairy Lodge 140 AF & AM in Williamsport; and Local Union at Mack Trucks.
He is survived by his wife of 59 years, Adaline Elizabeth Weller Gruber; a son, Richard R. "Dick" Gruber of Williamsport; a granddaughter, Kelly L. Gruber of Wilmington, N.C.; and a grandson, Richard R. Gruber of Fort Collins, Colo.
He was preceded in death by a brother, Leon Gruber.
Services will be Tuesday at 11 a.m. at Osborne Funeral Home, 425 S. Conococheague St., Williamsport. The Rev. W. Gregory Martin will officiate. Burial will be in Greenlawn Memorial Park, Williamsport.
The viewing will be Monday from 7 to 9 p.m. at the funeral home; for the convenience of family and friends, the funeral home will be open Monday after 9 a.m. Masonic services will be conducted Monday by members of Medairy Lodge 140 at 7 p.m. at the funeral home.

Gloria L. Wolford
Gloria Lorraine Wolford, 77, of 16244 Mt. Tabor Road, Hagerstown, died Friday, Feb. 12, 1999, at her home.
Born Aug. 9, 1921, in Hagerstown, she was the daughter of the late Frank A. and Mary Delauter Mullenix.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Frederick Rich Wolford, who died in 1965.
She is survived by four daughters, Phyllis Layhue, Patricia Sipes, Audrey Wolford, and Mary Llewellyn, all of Hagerstown; four sons, Frederick T. Wolford, Robert Wolford, Walter Wolford, and Frank Wolford, all of Hagerstown; four sisters, Mildred Toms, Beatrice Myers, Valeri Eccard, all of Hagerstown, and Nadine Bercaw of Smithsburg; two brothers, Harold Mullenix, and Nervin Mullenix, both of Hagerstown; 21 grandchildren and nine great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by two sisters, Louise Monn, and Genevieve Mullenix; and two brothers, Darren Mullenix and Freddy Mullenix.
Funeral services will be held Tuesday at 1 p.m. at Minnich Funeral Home, 415 East Wilson Boulevard, Hagerstown. The Rev. Alvin Shafer will officiate. Burial will be in Broadfording Memorial Gardens.
The family will receive friends this evening from 7 to 9 at the funeral home.
