Cornelia M. Gray
Cornelia M. Gray, 90, formerly of 421 Sumans Ave., Hagerstown, died Monday, Feb. 15, 1999, at Washington County Hospital in Hagerstown.
Born Jan. 13, 1909, in Middletown, Va., she was the daughter of the late Russel and Ada Anchor Butler.
She was preceded in death by her husband, James Gray, in 1972.
She was employed as a domestic servant and a hotel maid.
She was a member of the Zion Baptist Church.
She is survived by one niece, Catherine Williams of Winchester, Va.; and one nephew, Pookie Butler of Winchester.
Funeral services will be Wednesday at 7 p.m. at Gerald N. Minnich Funeral Home, 305 N. Potomac St., Hagerstown. The Rev. Haru Carter Jr. will officiate. Burial will be in Greenlawn Memorial Park, Williamsport.
Visitation will be Wednesday at 6 p.m. at the funeral home.
Edward H. Levy Sr.
WILLIAMSPORT - Edward Harold Levy Sr., 78, of 3 Oaktree Lane, Apartment G, Milestone Garden Apartments, and formerly of 20 E. Sunset Ave., died Monday, Feb. 15, 1999, at his home.
Born March 5, 1920, in Brooklyn, N.Y., he was the son of the late Maurice and Clara O. Mason Levy.
He was employed as a sergeant officer for the Maryland Motor Vehicle Administration, retiring in 1986.
He served in the U.S. Army.
He was a member of Williamsport United Methodist Church.
He was a member of AARP and Potomac Post 202 American Legion in Williamsport.
He is survived by his wife, Emmy Montes Levy of Williamsport; a daughter, Linda E. Hoffman of Halfway; two sons, Edward H. Levy Jr. of Woodbridge, Va., and John E. Levy of Hagerstown; two sisters, Helen Harrison of Florida and Mariam Cesarri of New York; eight grandchildren; and eight great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by a granddaughter.
Services will be today at 6:30 p.m. in Albert L. Leaf Memorial Chapel of Osborne Funeral Home, 425 S. Conococheague St., Williamsport. The Rev. Richard A. Kroll will officiate. Burial will be in Greenlawn Memorial Park, Williamsport, at the convenience of the family.
The family will receive friends at the funeral home after the service until 9 p.m. The funeral home will be open after 9 a.m.
Virginia L. Kendall
SABILLASVILLE, Md. - Virginia L. Kendall, 82, of Quirauk School Road, died Tuesday, Feb. 16, 1999, at Clearview Nursing Home.
Born Feb. 3, 1917, in Lucketts, Va., she was the daughter of the late Theodore S. and Lola Mae Smith Forrest.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Clyde J. Kendall, in 1989.
She was a member of Mount Pleasant Church of God.
She was a member of AARP.
She is survived by two sons, George L. Kendall of Hagerstown and Gary L. Kendall of Sabillasville; a sister, Helen Green of Pen Mar, Md.; twin brothers, Theodore Thomas Forrest and Thomas Theodore Forrest, both of Sabillasville; four grandchildren; 11 great-grandchildren; three stepchildren; three foster children; five step grandchildren; five foster grandchildren; and a foster great-great-grandchild.
Private services will be held at the convenience of the family at Mount Bethel Cemetery, Foxville, Md.
Arrangements are by Davis Funeral Home, Smithsburg.
Charles W. Hammond
WILLIAMSPORT - Charles Walter Chalk Hammond, 94, of Milestone Garden Apartments, who died Wednesday, Feb. 10, 1999, is survived by two great-grandsons.Ralph E. Mullendore
SILVER SPRING, Md. - Ralph E. Mullendore, 88, of Silver Spring, died Thursday, Feb. 11, 1999.
Born Sept. 2, 1910, near Hagerstown, he was the son of the late Harry and Atha Mullendore.
He graduated in 1933 from the University of Maryland at College Park with a degree in chemical engineering. He was a charter member of the Maryland Alpha Chapter of Phi Delta Theta fraternity.
He worked for the Census Bureau in Suitland, Md., where he was a member of the team working on the nation's first computer, UNIVAC I. He worked for the bureau as a computer diagnostician and troubleshooter, retiring in 1984 after 33 years.
He served in the U.S. Marine Corps and then as a Navy officer, attaining the rank of commander. During World War II, he developed and patented an azimuth finder, a navigational aid used aboard Navy vessels.
He was a ham radio operator under the call sign K3CWK.
He is survived by his wife of 62 years, Louise Cusick Mullendore; two children, Patricia Baczkiewicz and Gregory Mullendore; two sisters, Audrey Grove and Betty Hechmer; and two grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by an infant sister, Minnie Louise Mullendore.
Memorial services will held at a later date at Arlington National Cemetery.

June P. Hawbaker
June Phiana Hawbaker, 81, of 225 W. Franklin St., Hagerstown, died Tuesday, Feb. 16, 1999, at Washington County Hospital.
Born Aug. 24, 1917, in Hagerstown, she was the daughter of the late Samuel M. and C. Freta Young Shaffer.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Kenneth L. Hawbaker, in 1986.
She was a member of Christ's Reformed Church.
She was a member of Ladies of the Moose and AMVETS Post 10.
She is survived by a daughter, Kimberly Burnett of Hagerstown; two sons, Joseph Edward Martin and Albinas Young, both of Hagerstown; three stepdaughters, Mary Brindle of Smithsburg and Catherine Baker and Brenda Thomas, both of Hagerstown; four stepsons, Kenneth L. Hawbaker of Blue Ridge Summit, Pa., William Hawbaker of Pinesburg, and Leon Towns and Harry Hawbaker, both of Hagerstown; two sisters, Constance Gluck and Shirley Jones, both of Hagerstown; a brother, Samuel Shaffer of Greencastle, Pa.; grandchildren; great-grandchildren; great-great-grandchildren; nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by a son, Ernest Young.
Services will be Friday at 1 p.m. at Minnich Funeral Home, 415 E. Wilson Blvd., Hagerstown. The Rev. Don R. Stevenson will officiate. Burial will be in Cedar Lawn Memorial Park.
The family will receive friends Thursday from 2 to 4 p.m. and 7 to 9 p.m. at the funeral home.
Bryan R. Bailey
Minister Bryan R. Bailey, 57, of 1535 Iris Court, Hagerstown, died Monday, Feb. 15, 1999, at Washington County Hospital.
Born Sept. 18, 1941, in Paw Paw, W.Va., he was the son of Emily J. Parrill Myers of Paw Paw and the late Leonard Bailey.
He was minister of Church of Christ at Hagerstown.
In addition to his mother, he is survived by his wife, Linda L. Bailey; two daughters, Teresa K. Foster of Ringgold and Leah M. Bailey of Smithsburg; a sister, Lorraine Twigg of Berkeley Springs, W.Va.; three brothers, Bernard Bailey of Largent, W.Va., Dale Bailey of Martinsburg, W.Va., and Preston Bailey of Gouverneur, N.Y.; a stepson, James Haney of Greencastle, Pa.; two stepsisters, Delores Smith of Hagerstown and Carolyn Ritter of Waynesboro, Pa.; three grandsons; and a step granddaughter.
He was preceded in death by a son, Larry Bailey.
Services will be Friday at 2 p.m. at Church of Christ at Hagerstown. Minister Rob Slone and Elders Tom Altizer and Dan Franklin will officiate. Burial will be in Ringgold Cemetery.

There will be no viewing.
