Donald G. Ruse
WILLIAMSPORT - Donald G. Ruse, 88, of 154 N. Artizan St., and formerly of 924 St. Clair St., Hagerstown, died Tuesday, Feb. 16, 1999, at Williamsport Retirement Village, Williamsport.
Born Feb. 7, 1911, in Baltimore, he was the son of the late George Donald and Bertha Mae Gordon Ruse.
He was employed by Herman R. Ewell Milk Hauling, retiring in 1976.
He was of the Brethren faith and attended Mountain View Baptist Church.
He is survived by his wife of 53 years, Anna M. Ruse; three daughters, Louella M. Rowland of Clear Spring, Patricia J. Brookman of Covington, Va., and Beverly A. Henson of Williamsport; a son, Donald W. Ruse of Williamsport; a brother, William H. Bennett of Catonsville, Md.; 20 grandchildren; 28 great-grandchildren; and a great-great-grandson.
He was preceded in death by a daughter, Nancy Cook.
Services were held Friday at Andrew K. Coffman Funeral Home, 40 E. Antietam St., Hagerstown. The Rev. John C. Hoffman will officiated. Burial was in Broadfording Cemetery.

Virgie E. DeWitt
Virgie Eleanor DeWitt, 88, a resident of Walnut Towers, 12 Walnut St., Hagerstown, died Thursday, Feb. 18, 1999, at Washington County Hospital.
Born March 2, 1910, in Ellerton, Md., she was the daughter of the late Romer Luther and Annie Caroline Delauder Shank.
She was preceded in death by her first husband, Clifford Henry Derr, in 1948; and her second husband, Herbert Franklin DeWitt, in 1979.
She was formerly employed at Holiday Inn in Frederick, Md., and Nalley's Nursing Home in Boonsboro.
She was a member of Grossnickle Church of the Brethren near Ellerton.
She is survived by a daughter, Geraldine Mae Starliper of Boonsboro; a son, Richard Lee Derr Sr. of Hagerstown; a sister, Irene G. Schroyer of Hagerstown; a brother, Ralph Shank of Rohrersville; 10 grandchildren; 20 great-grandchildren; and 12 great-great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by two daughters, Charlotte Derr and Beverly Ann Derr; three sons, Edward Derr, Mervil Derr and Junior Derr; two sisters, six brothers; and a granddaughter.
Services will be Monday at 10:30 a.m. in the chapel of Bast Funeral Home, 7606 Old National Pike, Boonsboro. Burial will be in Boonsboro Cemetery.
The family will receive friends Sunday from 7 to 9 p.m. at the funeral home.
Edward J. Pearman Jr.
Edward James Pearman Jr., 85, of 10917 Bower Ave., Hagerstown, died Friday, Feb. 19, 1999, at Washington County Hospital.
Born July 4, 1913, in Baltimore, he was the son of the late Edward James and Carrie Bogaret Pearman Sr.
He retired from Potomac Edison Co. after 40 years of service.
He was a member of Williamsport United Methodist Church, Williamsport.
He was a member of BPOE 378, and Eagles Inc. of Waynesboro, Pa.
He is survived by his wife, Hazel Everhart Pearman; a son, Norman Pearman of Hagerstown; a sister, Evelyn Kline of Hagerstown; two granddaughters; and two great-grandsons.
He was preceded in death by three brothers, Elwood Pearman, Wilbur Pearman and Melvin Pearman; and a grandson, Norman Pearman Jr.
Services will be Monday at 9:30 a.m. at Minnich Funeral Home, 415 E. Wilson Blvd., Hagerstown. The Rev. Richard A. Kroll will officiate. Burial will be in Rest Haven Cemetery, Hagerstown.
The family will receive friends Sunday from 7 to 9 p.m. at the funeral home.

Harold L. Flowers
HANCOCK - Harold Lee Flowers, 62, of Rice Road, died Thursday, Feb. 18, 1999, at Washington County Hospital.
Born Feb. 21, 1936, in Hancock, he was the son of the late Carl J. Flowers and Margaret Roman Flowers Mann.
A plumber, he was employed with Local 37, Hagerstown.
He was a member of Mount Olivet Presbyterian Church, Hancock.
He is survived by two daughters, Beverly Powell of Hancock and Bonnie Jo Ashkettle of Warfordsburg, Pa.; two sons, Randy Flowers and Thomas Flowers, both of Hancock; two sisters, Delores Lucas of Warfordsburg and Shelvy McCusker of Hancock; four brothers, Homer Flowers, Carl Flowers and Belvie Mann, all of Hancock, and Larry Mann of Great Cacapon, W.Va.; nine grandchildren; seven great-grandchildren; and nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his stepfather, Espy A. Mann; and a brother, Donald Mann.
Services will be Monday at 11 a.m. at Mount Olivet Presbyterian Church. The Rev. Phillip Unger will officiate. Burial will be in the church cemetery.
The family will receive friends Sunday from 7 to 9 p.m. at Grove Funeral Home, 141 W. Main St., Hancock; and Monday one hour prior to the services at the church. The funeral home will be open Sunday from 2 to 9 p.m.

Frederick Klein
Frederick Klein, 77, of 18922 Dover Drive, Hagerstown, died Friday, Feb. 19, 1999, at Washington County Hospital.
Born March 20, 1921, in Cumberland, Md., he was the son of the late Russell Howard and Anna Ruehl Klein.
He was a 1939 graduate of Allegheny High School, Cumberland; and a 1948 graduate of Shepherd College, Shepherdstown, W.Va.
He was a scientist for the Army at Fort Detrick, Md., for 30 years, and later at Frederick Cancer Research Center, where he was prominent in the mammalian cell production area in the development and production of interferon and related biological modifier drugs. After retiring in 1984, he consulted for large-scale mammalian cell production drugs (biological response modifiers) and monoclonal antibody production and advised in the design of biotech facilities and equipment.
He served in the U.S. Army Air Corps during World War II.
He was a member of Church of the Holy Trinity, Hagerstown.
He was a member of Waynesboro Country Club and Morris Frock Post 42 American Legion.
He is survived by his wife of 57 years, Doris Robinson Klein; a son, Frederick Klein Jr. of Clarksburg, Md.; a granddaughter, Teri King of Gaithersburg, Md.; a grandson, Patrick Klein of Myrtle Beach, S.C.; and two great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by a brother, Henry Klein.
Services will be Monday at 11 a.m. at Church of the Holy Trinity, 17805 Oak Ridge Drive, Hagerstown. The Rev. David Schlicher will officiate. Burial will be in Cedar Lawn Memorial Park, Hagerstown.

Robert P. Shank
Robert Palmer Shank, 74, of 11008 Pin Oak Terrace, Hagerstown, died Thursday, Feb. 18, 1999, at Washington County Hospital.
Born Aug. 26, 1924, in Hagerstown, he was the son of the late Paul R. and Olif Palmer Shank.
He served in the U.S. Army.
He was a former member of St. Mark's Lutheran Church.
He was a member of BPO Elks 378, Hagerstown Lodge 217 AF&AM, Ali Ghan Temple, Telephone Pioneers, Washington County Sports Hall of Fame and AARP. He was a life member of American Legion Morris Frock Post 42.
He is survived by his wife, Mildred D. Shank; a sister, Madalyn Shank Keller of Hagerstown; and nieces and nephews.
Memorial services will be Tuesday at 10 a.m. at Minnich Funeral Home, 415 E. Wilson Blvd., Hagerstown. The Rev. Thomas L. Perry will officiate. Burial will be at the convenience of the family.
The family will receive friends Tuesday from 9:30 to 10 a.m. prior to the services at the funeral home.
