John C. Sidler
MOUNT AIRY, Md. - John Carl Sidler, 52, of Buffalo Road, Mount Airy, died Friday, Feb. 19, 1999, at his home.
Born July 6, 1946, in LaPlata, Md., he was the son of Dorothy Jean Manuel Roser of York, Pa., and the late George William Sidler.
He was a self-employed farmer and home improvement contractor in the Mount Airy area. He was also a part-time paid fireman at Lisbon Fire Department, Lisbon, Md., for 15 years.
He served with the Army in Vietnam.
He was a life member of VFW Post 10076 of Mount Airy, a 15-year member of Mount Airy Volunteer Fire Department, receiving many awards including the Chief's Award, Rescue-Ambulance Recognition Award, First Place Ambulance Response Award and Outstanding Bingo Chairperson.
He is survived his wife of 34 years, Sharon L. Norwood Sidler; one daughter, Jennifer Peffley of Mount Airy; one sister, Georgia Carrol Kronenberg of Maui, Hawaii; one brother, George Thomas Sidler of Pennsylvania; two grandchildren, and numerous nieces and nephews.
Funeral services will be held Wednesday at 11 a.m. at Stauffer Funeral Home, 8 East Ridgeville Blvd., Mount Airy. The Rev. George A. Grimm will officiate. Burial will be in Pine Grove Cemetery, Mount Airy.
The family will receive friends Tuesday from 2 to 4 p.m. and from 7 to 9 p.m. at the funeral home.
Memorial services will be conducted by Mount Airy and Lisbon volunteer fire departments Tuesday evening at 7:30 at the funeral home.

Hilda V. Stenger
BOONSBORO - Hilda V. Stenger, 91, of Fahrney-Keedy Home in Boonsboro, and formerly of 10823 Grindstone Hill Road, Greencastle, Pa., died Monday, Feb. 22, 1999, in the home.
Born Aug. 2, 1907, in Antrim Township, Pa., she was the daughter of the late Franklin and Lulu B. Kauffman Stine.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Chester A. "Chet" Stenger, in 1988.
She attended Waynesboro Business School.
She was a homemaker.
She attended Ebenezer "Guitners" United Brethren Church near Greencastle.
She is survived by one daughter, Doris Coffman of Palosverdes Estates, Calif.; two sons, Wayne E. Stenger of Greencastle, and Dean F. Stenger of Hagerstown; one sister, Anna Belle Fries of Mercersburg, Pa.; one brother, Charles Stine of Greencastle; seven grandchildren, and nine great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by one son, Max A. Stenger; and one sister, Lucille Reeder.
Funeral services will be held Thursday at 11 a.m. at Harold M. Zimmerman and Son Funeral Home, 45 S. Carlisle St., Greencastle. The Rev. Louis L. Emerick will officiate. Burial will be in Cedar Hill Cemetery, Greencastle.
The family will receive friends Wednesday from 7 to 9 p.m. at the funeral home.
Ruth E. Main
Ruth Esther Main, 86, of 617 Chestnut St., Hagerstown, died Monday, Feb. 22, 1999, in Hagerstown.
Born Oct. 26, 1912, in Frederick, Md., she was the daughter of the late George Elmer and Virginia Schley Brengle.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Millard M. Main, in 1977.
She is survived by one daughter, Ruth Weller of Hagerstown; two sons, Michael Main and Stoyan L. Russell, both of Hagerstown; five grandchildren, and 10 great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by one grandson.
A memorial service will be held Saturday at 7 p.m. at Minnich Funeral Home, 415 E. Wilson Blvd., Hagerstown.
There will be no viewing.
Ruth Mulligan
Ruth Mulligan, 84, of 440 George St., died Monday, Feb. 22, 1999, at Washington County Hospital.
Born March 12, 1914, in Peidmont, W.Va., she was the daughter of the late Charles and Dosha Caldwell Holton.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Charles E. Mulligan.
She was of the Pentecostal faith.
She is survived by one daughter, Patsy Dennis of Hagerstown; three grandchildren; one great-granddaughter; and nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by six sisters, Ella Saintmiers, Mamie Grove, Mildred Koontz, Margie Alexander, Audrey Vance, and Meda Vance; and four brothers, William Vance, Leonard Vance, Raymond Holton, and Edward Holton.
Funeral services and burial will be at the convenience of the family.
There will be no viewing.

Lester E. Fauble
FREDERICK, Md. - Lester Edward Fauble, 81, of 5820 Genesis Lane, Frederick, died Monday, Feb. 22, 1999, at Frederick Healthcare Center.
Born May 15, 1917, in Lovettsville, Va., he was the son of the late Arthur Elmer and Elva M. Danner Fauble.
He retired from B&O Railroad as a track foreman.
He was a member of Grossnickle Church of the Brethren, Myersville, Md.
He was a member of Brotherhood Maintenance Way.
A veteran of the U.S. Army, he served during World War II.
He is survived by his wife, Frances Sowers Fauble; two daughters, Anna Mae Buhrman and Laureda McIntyre, both of Smithsburg; two sons, Harry S. Fauble of Winchester, Va., and Arthur E. Fauble of Walkersville, Md.; three sisters, Virginia Twenty of Frederick, Dorothy Wenner of Knoxville, Md., and Helen Kesner of Middletown, Md.; seven grandchildren, and six great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by one sister, Mary E. Hough; and four brothers, George W. Fauble, Norman E. Fauble, Charles W. Fauble and Richard D. Fauble.
Funeral services will be Thursday at 11 a.m. at Grossnickle Church of the Brethren, Myersville. The Revs. James Flora, David Dawson and Ron Ellis will officiate. Burial will be in Pleasant View Church of the Brethren Cemetery, Burkittsville, Md.
Friends may call any time Wednesday at Donald B. Thompson Funeral Home, 31 E. Main St., Middletown, where the family will receive friends from 7 to 9 p.m.; and on Thursday from 10 a.m. at the church.

Linsley P. Babcock
BOONSBORO - Linsley Paul Babcock, 82, of Reeders Memorial Home, 141 S. Main St., and formerly of North Port, Fla., and Skaneateles, N.Y., died Sunday, Feb. 21, 1999, at Washington County Hospital, Hagerstown.
Born Aug. 4, 1916, in Prattsburg, N.Y., he was the son of the late Walter Horace and Florence Waldo Babcock.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Merthel Kelley Babcock, in 1997.
He was a graduate of Franklin Academy and Prattsburg High School in New York.
He retired in 1972 as owner and operator of Babcock's Furniture Co. in Skaneateles.
A veteran of the U.S. Army Air Corps, he served during World War II in the European Theatre.
He was a member of St. Andrew's Presbyterian Church, Williamsport, and a former member of St. Paul's Presbyterian Church in North Port.
He was a member of Corning Painted Post Lodge 168 AF & AM, Corning, N.Y.
He is survived by three sons, Duane P. Babcock of Keedysville, Walter L. Babcock of Fredericksburg, Va., and Allen K. Babcock of Newark, Del.; two sisters, Celia Wood of Bozeman, Mont., and Anna Adams of Chicago; two brothers, Robert Babcock and Charles Babcock, both of Prattsburg.
A memorial service will be held Saturday at 1 p.m. at St. Andrew's Presbyterian Church, Williamsport. The Rev. Mark Sandell will officiate. Burial will be in Florida at the convenience of the family.
There will be no viewing or visitation.
