Bernard F. Taylor
MIDDLETOWN, Md. - Bernard Franklin "Snooky" Taylor, 81, of 4410 Old National Pike, died Thursday, Jan. 28, 1999, at Vindabona Nursing Home in Braddock Heights, Md.
Born March 26, 1917, in Middletown, he was the son of the late Rosy A. and Mary Ellen Easterday Taylor.
He was a retired animal laboratory technician at the National Institutes of Health in Bethesda, Md.
He was a member of Zion Lutheran Church in Middletown, and a member of the men's Bible class.
He was an honorary member of Catoctin Fish and Game Association.
He is survived by his wife of 59 years, Myrie Wiles Taylor; a daughter, Jean Taylor Reichert of Mount Airy, Md.; a son, Bruce F. Taylor of Middletown; four grandchildren; and a great-grandson.
Services will be Saturday at 11 a.m. at Zion Lutheran Church in Middletown. The Rev. Donald L. Turley will officiate. Burial will be in Lutheran Cemetery, Middletown.
Friends may call today from 10 a.m. to 9 p.m. at Donald B. Thompson Funeral Home, 31 E. Main St., Middletown. The family will receive friends today from 7 to 9 p.m. Visitation also will be Saturday one hour prior to the service at the church.

George K. Poffenberger
SMITHSBURG - George Kenneth Poffenberger, 83, of East Water Street, died Wednesday, Jan. 27, 1999, at Washington County Hospital.
Born April 22, 1915, in Beaver Creek, he was the son of the late George F. and Elizabeth E. Routzahn Poffenberger.
He was a 1933 graduate of Boonsboro High School.
He farmed in the Waynesboro, Pa., area at Wayne Heights and Welty Mill.
He was employed by Chewsville Cooperative Association in Smithsburg for 21 years, retiring in 1997.
He was a member of St. Matthews Lutheran Church, Beaver Creek.
He was a member of Sunshine Leisure Club, Smithsburg; a life member of South Mountain Rod and Gun Club, Smithsburg; F.O.E. Aerie 1758, Waynesboro; VFW Post 695, Waynesboro; and Eagle's Club Inc., Waynesboro.
He is survived by his wife of 61 years, Catherine V. South Poffenberger; a foster son, Harold K. South of Waynesboro; a sister, Florence Higman of Smithsburg; a brother, Charles Poffenberger of Beaver Creek; nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by two sisters, Mary Scott and Nellie Poffenberger; and two brothers, Roger Poffenberger and Paul Poffenberger.
Services will be Sunday at 2 p.m. at Davis Funeral Home, Smithsburg. Pastor Jaye Bartle will officiate. Burial will be in Smithsburg Cemetery.
The family will receive friends Saturday from 7 to 9 p.m. at the funeral home.
Ellner A. Menke
Ellner A. Cornell Menke, 80, of 13121 Fountainhead Road, died Thursday, Jan. 28, 1999, at her home.
Born Dec. 27, 1918, in Washington, D.C., she was the daughter of the late Walter Aden and Beulah McDaniel Cornell.
She was a graduate of Mount Rainier High School in Mount Rainier, Md., and a 1939 graduate of the University of Maryland.
She had been employed in the credit office of S. Kanns and Sons Department Store in Washington, D.C.
She was a member of St. John's Episcopal Church.
She was a former member of P.E.O. Sisterhood, the Women's Club and Northwood Club Inc.
She is survived by her husband, Fred H. Menke Sr.; one daughter, Marilyn M. Engel of Keezletown, Va.; four sons, Fred H. Menke Jr. of Woodbridge, Va., Robert A. Menke of Alexandria, Va., James G. Menke of Vienna, Va., and John G. Menke of Morganville, N.J.; one sister, Norma C. Day of Frederick, Md.; one brother, Walter A. Cornell Jr. of Boca Raton, Fla.; and eight grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by one brother, George Cornell.
Services will be Saturday at 11 a.m. at Andrew K Coffman Funeral Home, 40 E. Antietam St., Hagerstown. The Rev. Kenneth J. Dorsch and the Rev. Victor I. Zuck will officiate. Burial will be in Fort Lincoln cemetery in Brentwood, Md., Monday at 11 a.m.

Twila M. Shade
SHARPSBURG - Twila M. Shade, 83, of Sharpsburg, died Thursday, Jan. 28, 1999, at her home.
Born Oct. 19, 1915, in Grant County, W.Va., she was the daughter of the late Roy and Gracie Judy Groves.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Paul Benjamin Shade.
She was a 1936 graduate of Shepherd College.
She taught school at Pilgrims Rest School in Grant County, W.Va.; and had been employed at Fairchild Aircraft.
She was a member of Trinity Baptist Church in Martinsburg, W.Va., and was a member of the Womens Auxiliary.
She was a member of Heart to Heart at Sharpsburg Bible Church.
She is survived by two sons, Paul Benjamin Shade II and David Mark Shade, both of Sharpsburg; a sister, Kathleen Myrtle Kile of Cabins, W.Va.; a brother, Earl Ashton Groves of Petersburg, W.Va.; a granddaughter; and three great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by a sister, Mernie Irene Kile.
Services will be Sunday at 1:30 p.m. at Trinity Baptist Church, Route 45 East of Martinsburg. The Rev. Robert Oertly will officiate. Burial will be in Pleasant View Memory Gardens.

Kenneth L. Adams
Kenneth L. Adams, 93, of 219 Potomac Heights, Hagerstown, died Tuesday, Jan. 26, 1999, at Ravenwood Nursing Care Center in Hagerstown.
Born Sept. 24, 1905, in White Hall, Washington County, he was the son of the late Stanley R. and A. Blanche Suman Adams.
He retired in 1998 as chairman of the board of Steffey & Findlay Inc. He had been treasurer; and then president from 1960 until his semi-retirement in 1980.
He was a member of First Christian Church, was a trustee and elder. He sang in the choir for 70 years, taught the Young Men's Sunday School Class, was Sunday school superintendent and a member and former chairman of the Official Board.
He was a member and past president of Washington County Hospital board, and chairman of the building committee. He had been a member of the board of directors of Hagerstown Trust Co.
He was a member and past president of Hagerstown Lions Club, and received the Melvin Jones Fellowship Award for Distinguished Service. He was a member of Hagerstown Chapter of American Red Cross, and was chairman of the budget and finance committee. He was charter president and member of Service Corps of Retired Executives, Hagerstown Chapter. He had been a board member of the YMCA, and chaired committees. He was a member and board member of Hagerstown Chamber of Commerce; he was the treasurer of Washington County Council of Churches, and chairman of Budget and Finance from 1965 to 1994; had served on the committee of United Way; from 1988 to 1992 he was a member of Greater Hagerstown Committee; Fountain Head Country Club; Friendship Lodge 84 A.F.&A.M., Ithiel Chapter 27 R.A.M., Palestine Council 16 R.S.M., St. Bernard Commandery 9 K.T., Queen Esther Chapter 3 O.E.S., and Ali Ghan Shrine Temple of Cumberland, Md.
He is survived by his wife, Margaree Miller Adams; two daughters, Alice M.A. Wright of Belle Meade, N.J., and Carolyn A. Ridenour of Gaithersburg, Md.; one son, Philip K. Adams of Hagerstown; one sister, Elizabeth F. Beyard of Hagerstown; one granddaughter; three grandsons; three great-grandchildren, and two nephews.
Services will be Friday at 1 p.m. at First Christian Church, 1345 Potomac Ave., Hagerstown. The Rev. Fred M. Harris and the Rev. Robert L. Regenold will officiate. Burial will be in Rest Haven Cemetery.
Visitation will be at Gerald N. Minnich Funeral Home, 305 N. Potomac St., Hagerstown, today from 6:30 to 8:30 p.m.

Geneva E. Flohr
Geneva E. Flohr, 81, of 14316 Barkdoll Road, died Wednesday, Jan. 27, 1999, at Washington County Hospital.
Born June 22, 1917, in Emmitsburg, Md., she was the daughter of the late Harry R. and Alice B. Eyler Harbaugh.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Howard T. Flohr, in 1968.
She was a 1960 graduate of Chambersburg School of Nursing, Chambersburg, Pa.
She was employed at Waynesboro (Pa.) Hospital as a licensed practical nurse. She then worked as a private duty nurse.
She was a member of Ringgold Church of Christ.
She is survived by one daughter with whom she lived, Nina J. Staley, of Ringgold; one son, Richard E. Flohr of Falling Waters, W.Va.; three sisters, Mary Ann Warren of Greenstone, Pa., and Betty Patterson and Jean Mowbray, both of Hagerstown; one brother, Carroll Harbaugh of Walkersville, Md.; seven grandchildren; 12 great-grandchildren; and nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by an infant daughter, Constance Flohr; two sisters, Viola Hardman and Dorothy Dickey; three brothers, Lawrence Harbaugh, Wilmer Harbaugh and Francis Harbaugh; and two grandchildren.
Services will be Friday at 2 p.m. at Calvary Assembly of God Church, 116 Snider Ave., Waynesboro. The Rev. Walter A. Stuart and the Rev. Bryan Bailey will officiate. Burial will be in Oaklawn Memorial Garden, Gettysburg, Pa.
