Clara L. Guyer
Clara L. Guyer, 76, formerly of Mercersburg Road, Greencastle, Pa., died Tuesday, Jan. 19, 1999, at Western Maryland Hospital Center in Hagerstown.
Born Jan. 11, 1923, in Webster's Mills, Pa., she was the daughter of the late Daniel F. and Mary Seville Barnhart.
She was preceded in death by her husband, James N. Guyer, in 1957.
She was a homemaker.
She was of the Protestant faith.
She is survived by one daughter, Mary Strohl of Dallas, Pa.; five sons, L. Gene Barnhart of Hustontown, Pa., L. Fred Guyer of Aberdeen, Md., Roger Gordon of Fort Loudon, Pa., James Guyer Jr. and John Guyer, both of Hagerstown; 22 grandchildren; and 21 great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by one son; one sister; and one brother.
Services will be Friday at 11 a.m. at Lininger-Fries Funeral Home, 47 N. Park Ave., in Mercersburg, Pa. The Rev. Christian Elliott will officiate. Burial will be in Mount Olivet United Brethren Church Cemetery, Fort McCord Road, Chambersburg, Pa.
The viewing will be Thursday from 7 to 9 p.m. at the funeral home.
Betty L. Wingerd
Betty Larue Wingerd, 74, of 560 Salem Ave., Hagerstown, died Monday, Jan. 18, 1999, at her home.
Born Sept. 25, 1924, in Hagerstown, she was the daughter of the late Frank A. Cleland and Mae Lewis Cleland Fouke.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Roy B. Wingerd, in 1996.
She was a graduate of Hagerstown High School.
She was employed by Montgomery Ward, retiring in 1988.
She was a member of First Christian Church.
She was a member of AARP.
She is survived by a daughter, Patti J. Wingerd of Martinsburg, W.Va.; a sister, Jane Rogers of Hagerstown; and a brother, Robert W. Cleland of Myrtle Beach, S.C.
She was preceded in death by a daughter, Patricia May Wingerd; and a son, William Rhea Wingerd.
Services will be Thursday at 1 p.m. at Minnich Funeral Home, 415 E. Wilson Blvd., Hagerstown. The Rev. Fred M. Harris and the Rev. Robert L. Regenold will officiate. Burial will be in Cedar Lawn Memorial Park.
The family will receive friends today from 7 to 9 p.m. at the funeral home.
Albert C. Griffin
SMITHSBURG - Albert Charles Griffin, 96, of Smithsburg, died Monday, Jan. 18, 1999, at Washington County Hospital.
Born March 4, 1902, near Houston, he was the son of the late Samuel and Mary Barton Griffin.
His wife of 72 years, Hilah Griffin, preceded him in death.
He graduated from Southwestern Junior College in Keene, Texas; and Union College in Lincoln, Neb.
He worked as a minister in Wyoming, Kansas, Kentucky, Tennessee, Georgia and Texas.
He is survived by one daughter, Josephine Benton of Smithsburg; two grandsons, Roy Benton and David Benton; five great-grandsons; nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by 10 brothers and sisters.
A memorial service will be held Saturday at 11 a.m. at Williamsport Seventh-day Adventist Church, 16421 Lappans Road, Williamsport. Pastor Charles Griffin will officiate.
Burial will be in George Washington cemetery in Adelphi, Md., at the convenience of the family.
The family will meet friends following the Saturday service at the church.
In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to Williamsport Seventh-day Adventist Church Worthy Student Fund.

Robert F. Gardner
FORT WAYNE, Ind. - Robert F. Gardner, 66, of Fort Wayne, died Monday, Jan. 18, 1999, in Fort Wayne.
Born Oct. 4, 1932, in Trego, Md., he was the son of the late Robert and Mary Daugherty Gardner.
He retired in 1989 from AT&T after 29 years as a technician.
He was a member of AT&T Pioneers of America.
He is survived by his wife, Bonnie Gardner; one daughter, Rebecca Gardner of Maryland; one son, Robert A. Gardner of Vancouver, Wash.; one stepdaughter, Amy S. Grieser of Fort Wayne; and one grandson.
He was preceded in death by one grandson.
Funeral services will be Friday at 2 p.m. at D.O. McComb & Sons Pine Valley Park Funeral Home, 1320 E. Dupont Road, Fort Wayne.
The family will receive friends Friday at 1 p.m. at the funeral home.

FAIRPLAY - Carl Andrew Horchner, 61, formerly of 17922 Lappans Road, died Sunday, Jan. 17, 1999, at Washington County Hospital, Hagerstown.
Born June 3, 1937, in Hagerstown, he was the son of the late Carl William and Frances Elizabeth Rowe Horchner.
He retired from Mack Trucks.
He served in the U.S. Marine Corps.
He was of the Protestant faith.
He is survived by his wife, Patricia Ann Brechbill Horchner; one daughter, Cheryl Horchner of Washington, D.C.; one son, Paul Horchner of Hagerstown; four brothers, Larry Horchner of St. James, Md., Charles Horchner of Williamsport, Raymond Horchner of Hagerstown, and Francis Horchner of Halfway.
Funeral services will be held Thursday at 2 p.m. in Albert L. Leaf Memorial Chapel of Osborne Funeral Home, 425 S. Conococheague St., Williamsport. The Rev. Brian H. Moore will officiate. Burial will be in Greenlawn Memorial Park, Williamsport.

Mildred M. Hebb
WILLIAMSPORT - Mildred Mae Hebb, 88, of 16505 Virginia Ave., and formerly of 224 Hebb Road, Hagerstown, died Sunday, Jan. 17, 1999, at Homewood Retirement Center, Williamsport.
Born Jan. 28, 1910, in Tilghmanton, she was the daughter of the late Otha James and Elva Irene Moats Davis.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Howard William Hebb, in 1985.
She was a homemaker.
She was a former member of St. James Brethren Church and had attended St. Paul's Lutheran Church in Funkstown.
She was a member of Funkstown Homemakers Club.
She is survived by one daughter, Peggy Arvella Mills of Hagerstown; one brother, Carroll J. Davis of Tilghmanton; two grandchildren; three nieces and one nephew.
She was preceded in death by one daughter, Isabelle Mae Wachtell; and one sister, Lillian Baker.
Funeral services will be Wednesday at 10:30 a.m. in the chapel of Bast Funeral Home, 7606 Old National Pike, Boonsboro. The Rev. Darrell Layman will officiate. Burial will be in Manor Cemetery, Tilghmanton.
