Mary E. Purdum-Smith
LANSDOWNE, Md. - Mary E. Purdum-Smith of Lansdowne, died Sunday, Jan. 17, 1999.
She was preceded in death by her first husband, Albert D. Purdum; and by her second husband, Vincent J. Smith.
She is survived by two daughters, Ruth H. Brown, and Patricia D. Kittel of Hagerstown; three sons, Vincent J. Smith Jr., Edward C. Smith and Bernard J. Smith, one sister, Dorothy Boyd of Michigan; 17 grandchildren; and 17 great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by one son, Albert C. Smith.
Services will be held Thursday at 11 a.m. at Sterling-Ashton-Schwab Funeral Home, 736 Edmondson Ave., Catonsville, Md. Burial will be in Meadowridge Memorial Park.
The family will receive friends Tuesday and Wednesday from 3 to 5 p.m. and 7 to 9 p.m. at the funeral home.
Memorial contributions may be made to Lansdowne Volunteer Fire Department Ambulance Fund.
Irma E. Campbell
Irma Ella Campbell, 80, of 18420 Woodside Drive, Hagerstown, died Saturday, Jan. 16, 1999, at Washington County Hospital.
Funeral services will be held Tuesday at 1 p.m. at Minnich Funeral Home. The Rev. Louis L. Emerick will officiate. Burial will be in Cedar Lawn Memorial Park.
The family will receive friends today from 7 to 9 p.m. at the funeral home.
James R. Cody
MIDDLETOWN, Md. - James Robert Cody, 72, of 9011 Hollow Road, died Saturday, Jan. 16, 1999, at his home.
Born July 20, 1926, in Great Falls, S.C., he was the son of the late William Franklin and Arimey Wilson Cody.
He was a retired self-employed carpenter.
He was a veteran of the Navy, serving in World War II in the European Theater.
He was a member of Old Primitive Baptist Church in Virginia.
He was active for a long time in veterans' affairs and was commander at Middletown VFW Post from 1989 to 1996.
He was a member of Hagerstown VFW Post 1936, Valley Memorial Post 9 AMVETS, Middletown.
He is survived by his wife, Helen Loretta Rose Cody, one daughter, Vanessa Orrison of Middletown; one son, James Gregory Cody of Boonsboro; four grandchildren; and one nephew.
He was preceded in death by two sisters, Mona Atwell and Margaret Harkey; and four brothers, Bill Cody, Newell Cody, Clarence Cody and Grover Cody.
Funeral services will be held Tuesday at 11 a.m. at Donald B. Thompson Funeral Home, 31 E. Main St., Middletown. The Rev. Tracy Wiser will officiate. Burial will be in Pleasant View Church of the Brethren, Burkittsville, Md.
The family will receive friends today from 7 to 9 p.m. at the funeral home. Friends may visit from 10 a.m. to 9 p.m.
Dale W. Stevens Sr.
SHARPSBURG - Dale Wayne "Cheyenne" Stevens Sr., 66, of 207 S. Church Street, died Saturday, Jan. 16, 1999, at his home.
Born Sept. 23, 1932, in Tilghmanton, Md., he was the son of the late Earl C. and Thelma L. Rohrer Stevens.
He retired from Moller Pipe Organ after 32 years.
He served in the Army during the Korean War.
He was of the Protestant faith.
He was a member of Antietam Post 236, American Legion, Sharpsburg.
He is survived by his former wife, Frances M. Tennant of Shepherdstown, W.Va.; three daughters, Teresa Y. Keebaugh and Dawn R. Snyder, both of Shepherdstown, and April E. Hilliard of Falling Waters, W.Va.; two sons, Dale W. Stevens Jr. of Hagerstown and Gregory L. Stevens of Shepherdstown; two sisters, Betty J. Hines of Hagerstown and Rosalind Baker of Middletown, Md.; one brother, Robert E. Stevens of Boonsboro; and two grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by one daughter, Karen Sue Stevens; one sister, Audrey L. Shepley; and one grandson.
Funeral services will be held Wednesday at 2 p.m. in the chapel at Bast Funeral Home, 7606 Old National Pike, Boonsboro. The Rev. Ernest Witmer will officiate. Burial will be in Manor Cemetery, Tilghmanton.
Military honors will be by Morris Frock American Legion Post 42.
The family will receive friends Tuesday evening from 7 to 9 p.m. at the funeral home.

Eugene V. Main
Eugene Vinton Main, 67, of Avalon Manor, Hagerstown, died Saturday, Jan. 16, 1999, at Washington County Hospital.
Born March 24, 1931, in Hagerstown, he was the son of the late Clifton Odbert and Vesta Correne Ritenour Main.
He owned and operated his own floor tile business.
He served in the Army during the Korean War.
He was a member of Universal Church of God, Hagerstown.
He is survived by one daughter, Diana J. Eichelberger of Hedgesville, W.Va.; three sons, Curtis D. Main, Philip E. Main and Larry E. Main, all of Hagerstown; one brother, Gary L. Main of Hagerstown; two grandchildren; and one great-grandson.
Graveside services will be held Tuesday at 12 noon at Greenlawn Memorial Park, Williamsport. The Rev. Alvin A. Craig will officiate.
There will be no viewing.

Mary D. White
Mary Dorothy White, 86, of 1183 Luther Drive, Hagerstown, died Sunday, Jan. 17, 1999, at Washington County Hospital.
Born Aug. 8, 1912, in Annapolis, she was the daughter of the late William Grant and Cora Mechella Hunt Lucas.
Her husband, Harry D. White, died in 1994.
She was a member of Eastport United Methodist Church, Annapolis. She was a member of A.A.R.P.
She is survived by two sons, Marty White of Woodsboro, Md., and Harry White Jr. of Rochester, Mich.; six grandchildren; 16 great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by two sisters, Elsie Miller and Madeline Taylor; and three brothers, Alfred Lucas, William Lucas and George Lucas.
Funeral services will be held Wednesday at noon at Eastport United Methodist Church, 926 Baybridge Ave., Annapolis. The Rev. Carolyn S. Bray will officiate. Burial will be in Hillcrest Memorial Cemetery, Annapolis.
The family will receive friends Tuesday from 7 to 9 p.m. at Minnich Funeral Home, 415 East Wilson Blvd., Hagerstown, and at the church from 11 a.m. to noon.
Lino C. Sevilla
HANCOCK - Lino Calatrava Sevilla, 83, of Tollgate Ridge, died Friday, Jan. 15, 1999, at Washington County Hospital.
Born July 24, 1915, in Loon Province of Bohol, Philippines, he was the son of the late Alipio and Cecilia Calatrava Sevilla.
He was a retired professor of accounting, from the University of Bohol, Philippines.
He was a veteran of World War II, serving with the U.S. Army.
He was a member of Orange Baptist Church in Long Beach, Calif.
He was a member of Dagohoy Post 70 American Legion in the Philippines.
He was a member of World War II Veterans Memorial Fund.
He is survived by his wife of 61 years, Filomena G. Garnica Sevilla; three daughters, Lee Corbett of Hancock, and Ruby Cerna and Milagros Diano, both of the Philippines; three sons, William Sevilla of Seattle, and Jessie Sevilla and Joseph Sevilla, both of the Philippines; a brother, Fortunato Sevilla of the Philippines; 26 grandchildren; 13 great-grandchildren; and nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by a daughter; two sons; and two sisters.
Services will be Tuesday at 11 a.m. at Grove Funeral Home, 141 W. Main St., Hancock. The Rev. William Sevilla will officiate. Burial will be in Catalpa United Methodist Cemetery, Hancock, with military services by Tri-State Honor Guard.
The family will receive friends Monday from 7 to 9 p.m. at the funeral home, for the convenience of friends, the funeral home will be open Monday from 4 to 9 p.m.
