Mabel N. Smith
GAPLAND - Mabel Naomi Smith, 82, of 3200 Gapland Road, and a resident of Reeders Memorial Home, Boonsboro, died Sunday Jan. 10, 1999, at Washington County Hospital.
Born March 15, 1916, in Yarrowsburg, Md., she was the daughter of the late Charles Ashby and Rosa Mae Main Coulter.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Albertus Fred "Bert" Smith, in 1996.
She was a homemaker.
She was a member of Brownsville Church of the Brethren.
She is survived by one daughter, Nora L. Webber Hutzell of Boonsboro; one sister, Anna Mae Kelbaugh of Knoxville, one grandson; three step-grandchildren and five step-great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by one sister, Dollie Swisher; and three brothers, Mark Coulter, Mason Coulter and Melvin Coulter.
Funeral services will be Wednesday at 2 p.m. at Brownsville Church of the Brethren. The Rev. R. Thomas Fralin Jr. will officiate. Burial will be in Old Brownsville Cemetery.
There will be no viewing; however, the family will receive friends Tuesday from 7 to 9 p.m. at Bast Funeral Home, 7606 Old National Pike, Boonsboro; and Wednesday one hour prior to the service at the church.

Helen A. Mason
Helen Agnes Mason, 83, formerly of 40 West Side Ave., Hagerstown, died Sunday, Jan. 10, 1999, at Avalon Manor Nursing Home.
Born April 19, 1915, in Hagerstown, she was the daughter of the late William Logan and Agnes Conner Mowen.
Her husband, William Russell Mason, died in 1972.
She was a member of St. Mark's Lutheran Church.
She is survived by two sons, Kenneth L. Mason of Hagerstown and Edwin R. Mason of Winchester, Va.; two sisters, Edna Pryor of Hagerstown, and Jane Neikirk of Savannah, Ga.; one grandson; one great-grandson.
Services and burial will be held at the convenience of the family.
There will be no viewing.

Melvin W. Bittinger
HANCOCK - Melvin William Bittinger, 62, of Baptist Road, died Saturday, Jan. 9, 1999, at his home.
Born Dec. 13, 1936, in Lonaconing, Md., he was the son of Raymond W. Bittinger and the late Stella Marie Cutter Bittinger.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Donna Marie Ash Bittinger, who died in 1985.
He was retired from Western Maryland Regional Laboratory, Hancock, in 1986 as assistant regional materials engineer.
He was a member of Hancock Church of God, Hancock.
He was a member of Loyal Order of Moose Lodge 1483, Berkeley Springs, W.Va.
In addition to his father, he is survived by one daughter, Donna L. Powell of Berkeley Springs; one son, Melvin E. Bittinger of Deal Island, Md.; three brothers, Raymond W. Bittinger, Jr., of Cumberland, Md., John C. Bittinger and Paul D. Bittinger, both of Hancock; and a number of nieces and nephews, great-nieces and nephews and one aunt.
He was preceded in death by one granddaughter.
Funeral services will be held Wednesday at 11 a.m. at Grove Funeral Home, 141 W. Main St., Hancock. Burial will be in Rest Lawn Memorial Gardens, LaVale, Md.
The family will receive friends Tuesday evening from 7 to 9 at the funeral home.
Mildred M. Bitner
CLEAR SPRING - Mildred Marie Bitner, 69, of Shady Bower Lane, died Sunday, Jan. 10, 1999, at Washington County Hospital.
Born Jan. 4, 1930, in Clear Spring, she was the daughter of the late William A. and Grace Faith Carbaugh.
She was employed with Days Inn and had been a waitress for Prospect Street Diner and Howard Johnson's.
She is survived by one son, Franklin D. Keefer of Clear Spring, two sisters, Bonnie McKenzie of Hagerstown, and Sylvia Hasenbuhler of Fairplay; two grandchildren; two great-grandchildren, and several nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by two brothers, Perry Carbaugh and Donald Carbaugh.
Funeral services will be held on Wednesday at 10:30 a.m. at Donald Edwin Thompson Funeral Home, Inc., 13607 National Pike, Clear Spring. The Rev. Robert Robinson will officiate. Burial will be in Blairsvalley Cemetery.
The family will receive friends Tuesday evening from 7 to 9 at the funeral home.

Willadean Miller
Willadean "Belle" Miller, 66, of 46 Fairground Avenue, died Saturday, Jan. 9, 1999, at Washington County Hospital.
Born April 16, 1932, in West Virginia, she was the daughter of the late John T. Crouse and Eva Puffinberger Crouse Pease.
She was a member of Bethel Assembly of God.
She is survived by her husband of 48 years, Charles F. Miller; one daughter, Beverly Ann Siecker of Hagerstown; one son, Charles Thomas Miller of Hagerstown; seven sisters, Madeline Offord of Martinsburg, Susie Semler and Elsie Long, both of Hagerstown, Ruby Boden of Hancock, Marie Mahoney of Inwood, W.Va., Kathy Householder of Hedgesville, W.Va., and Darlene Maupin of Williamsport; one brother, Wilson Crouse of Winchester, Va.; five grandchildren and several nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her step-father, John Roy Pease; one sister, Genevieve Crouse; and three brothers, Bud Crouse, Harry Crouse and John T. Crouse.
Funeral services will be held Tuesday at 11 a.m. at Minnich Funeral Home, 415 East Wilson Blvd., Hagerstown. The Rev. Terry B. Broadway and the Rev. Arvel J. Barrett will officiate. Burial will be in Cedar Lawn Memorial Park.
The family will receive friends on Tuesday one hour prior to the services at the funeral home.
Ruth R. Taylor
Ruth Randall Taylor, 79, of 13925 Sunrise Drive, died Saturday, Jan. 9, 1999, at Coffman Nursing Home, Hagerstown.
Born Oct. 16, 1919, in Mount Rainer, Md., she was the daughter of the late George Anderson and Maude Anna Borman Randall.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Raymond Bernard Randall, who died in 1985.
She was retired as personnel manager for U.S. Department of Health, Education and Welfare in 1972.
She was of the Catholic faith.
She was a member of National Association of Retired Federal Employees and Calvert Memorial Hospital Auxiliary, Prince Frederick, Md.
She is survived by one sister, Mary R. Biondi of Hagerstown; one nephew; and a number of great-nieces and nephews.
Funeral services will be held Tuesday at 10:30 a.m. in Leaf Memorial Chapel of the Osborne Funeral Home, 425 S. Conococheague St., Williamsport. The Rev. Jack Fullen will officiate. Burial will be in Greenlawn Memorial Park, Williamsport.
The family will receive friends this evening from 6 to 8 at the funeral home. For the convenience of family and friends the funeral home will be open today after 1 p.m.
