Vivian W. Sanner
WILLIAMSPORT - Vivian W. Sanner, 82, of 16705 Edward Doub Road, died Thursday, Jan. 7, 1999, at University of Maryland Hospital, Baltimore.
Born Jan. 27, 1916, in Beaver Falls, Pa., she was the daughter of the late John and Martha Wolfe.
She was preceded in death by her first husband, Alfred Zaffaroni, in 1956; and by her second husband, George R. Sanner, in 1969.
She was a graduate of Providence Hospital Sisters of Charity Nursing School.
A veteran of World War II, she served in the U.S. Army as a nurse aboard the USS Shamrock.
She was a member of Hagerstown Bible Church, was a deaconess and president of Women's Missionary Circle.
She was treasurer of Ladies Fellowship Organization; Ladies Bible Class; and a volunteer at Grace Academy. She bowled with Homemakers Bowling League.
She is survived by a daughter, Sherry M. Zaffaroni of Williamsport; a stepson, Donald A. Zaffaroni of Darlington, Pa.; two sisters, Emma Lee Cooper of Warren, Ohio, and Martha Reddinger of Erie, Pa.; a brother, Stewart Wolfe of Hermitage, Pa.; and three grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by a son, Thomas L. Zaffaroni.
Services will be Monday at 1:30 p.m. at Hagerstown Bible Church. The Rev. Dale R. Carver will officiate. Burial will be in Rose Hill Cemetery, Hagerstown.
Visitation will be Sunday from 7 to 9 p.m. at Douglas A. Fiery Funeral Home, 1331 Eastern Blvd. North, Hagerstown.

Margaret L. Hoffman
FREDERICK, Md. - Margaret Louise Hoffman, 78, of 7930 Yellow Springs Road, died Wednesday, Jan. 6, 1999, at Frederick Memorial Hospital.
Born Jan. 2, 1921, in Middletown, Md., she was the daughter of the late Ralph Henry and Nellie Lapole Bowlus.
She retired in 1976 from American Optical Co. in Frederick after 18 years.
She was a Lutheran.
She is survived by her husband of 42 years, Grayson H. Hoffman; a daughter, Nancy J. Ohler of Frederick; five sisters, Geraldine Markley of Alexandria, Va., Marlene Banks, Jean Stull and Joan Gladhill, all of Frederick, and Gwendolyn Bowlus of Middletown; two granddaughters; and two great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by a sister, Janet Bowlus; and a brother, Curtis Bowlus.
Services will be Saturday at 11 a.m. at Donald B. Thompson Funeral Home, 31 E. Main St., Middletown. The Rev. Donald L. Turley, pastor of Zion Lutheran Church in Middletown, will officiate. Burial will be in Lutheran Cemetery, Middletown.
The family will receive friends Friday from 7 to 9 p.m. at the funeral home, which will open at noon.

Donald L. Howlett
Donald Lee Howlett, 69, of 16111 Dundee Court, Hagerstown, died Wednesday, Jan. 6, 1999, at his home.
Born Jan. 8, 1929, in Hagerstown, he was the son of the late Jeffrey James Howlett and Mary Edna Guessford Howlett Hildebrand.
He was employed at Fort Ritchie, retiring after 15 years. He was previously employed at Purolator; Grand Union for 28 years; and Bill Cunningham Grocery Store.
He was a member of Hagerstown First Church of God.
He is survived by his wife, Louise Howlett; two daughters, Cynthia Diane Binkley of Edgewood, Md., and Laura Lee Pierson of Louisville, Ky.; a son, Matthew Howlett of Kentucky; five stepdaughters, Saundra Doyle and Cheryl Heimbuck, both of Boonsboro, Donna Ashbaugh and Rennie Carlson, both of West Virginia, and Tina Walling of Hagerstown; five stepsons, Donald Walling, Gregg Walling, Gary Walling, Enoch Walling and Cash Walling, all of Hagerstown; two sisters, Lois Joanne Houck and Carolyn Wilhelm, both of Hagerstown; a half brother, Edward Woodrow Guessford of Hagerstown; two grandchildren; and 16 step grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by a half brother, Frank D. Bussard.
Services will be Saturday at 1 p.m. at Hagerstown First Church of God, 1015 Rose Hill Ave., Hagerstown. The Rev. David Sword will officiate. Burial will be in Greenlawn Memorial Park, Williamsport.
The family will receive friends Friday from 7 to 9 p.m. at Minnich Funeral Home, 415 E. Wilson Blvd., Hagerstown.

Evelyn L. Shannon
Evelyn Louise Shannon, 64, of Hagerstown, died of cardiac arrest Monday, Jan. 4, 1999, at Washington County Hospital.
Born Oct. 8, 1934, in Thomas, W.Va., she was the daughter of the late Hobert and Florence Helmick Lipscomb.
She attended schools in Thomas.
She was a Baptist.
She is survived by her husband, John Clardon Shannon, whom she married
May 11, 1951; a daughter, Sheila Marker of Parsons, W.Va.; a son, John C. Shannon Jr. of Manassas, Va.; two sisters, Maxine Judy and Carol Helmick, both of Cleveland; a brother, Donald Lipscomb of Cleveland; a granddaughter; a grandson; and a great-grandson.
She was preceded in death by a daughter, Diane Karen Shannon; two sisters, Irene Higby and Viola Roll; and two brothers, Hobert Lipscomb and Willard Lipscomb.
Services will be Friday at 11 a.m. at Barb and Greenlief Funeral Home, 312 Main St., Parsons. The Rev. Theodore Higby will officiate. Burial will be in Parsons City Cemetery.
Friends will be received at the funeral home today from 2 to 4 p.m. and 6 to 8 p.m.
Ora M. Price
Ora Mary Price, 80, of 902 Pope Ave., who died on Monday, Jan. 4, 1999, was preceded in death by her husband, Howard Nelson Price, who died in 1972.
She was the daughter of the late Charles Henry and Matilda A. McKenzie Warne.
She is survived by three daughters, including Bonnie M. Rice of Hagerstown.
Miriam C. Wolf
SMITHSBURG - Miriam C. Wolf, 71, of Loy Wolfe Road, died Tuesday, Jan. 5, 1999, at Washington County Hospital.
Born Dec. 29, 1927, in Middletown, Md., she was the daughter of the late D. Ralph and Ruth E. Schildknecht Kepler.
She retired from Morgan and Keller Contractors and Myersville Bank, where she was a custodian, after 25 years.
She was a member of St. Mark's Lutheran Church in Wolfsville, the Ladies Bible Class and was active in church activities.
She is survived by her husband of 40 years, Cyrus E. Wolf; three sons, Dale Wolf of Wolfsville, Charlie Wolf and Darrell Wolf, both of Middletown; three sisters, Eva Leatherman of Middletown, Hazel Early of Wolfsville and Betty Swope of Boonsboro; one brother, Daniel Kepler of Middletown; and nine grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by one sister, Cleo Bowman.
Services will be Friday at 11 a.m. at St. Mark's Lutheran Church in Wolfsville. The Rev. David Howell will officiate. Burial will be in the adjoining church cemetery.
