Reed W. Johnson Jr.
CLEAR SPRING - Reed W. Johnson Jr., 68, of National Pike, died Friday, Jan. 1, 1999, at Western Maryland Hospital Center in Hagerstown.
Born Sept. 18, 1930, in MIllstone, Md., he was the son of the late Reed W. and Virginia Plesant Gordon Johnson Sr.
He retired July 1, 1991 from Mack Trucks in Hagerstown after 29 1/2 years of service.
He served with the U.S. Army from 1948 through 1979. He was a Viet Nam veteran, and retired Dec. 15, 1979 from the U.S. Army's 357th Transportation Company in Greencastle, Pa. as Sergeant First Class.
He attended Mountain View Baptist Church in Hagerstown.
He was a member of American Legion Post 42, VFW Post 1936, and UAW Local 171, all of Hagerstown; and 357th Transportation Company of Greencastle.
He is survived by his wife, Mary M. Hull Johnson, whom he married
June 13, 1957; four sons, Matthew Reed Johnson and Mark Wayne Johnson, both at home, Luke Daniel Johnson of Hagerstown and John G. "J.J." Johnson of Clear Spring; three sisters, Phyllis Pittman of Needmore, Pa., Estalene Bain of Hagerstown and Karen Zimmerman of Arlington, Texas; two brothers, David L. Johnson of Clear Spring and James Johnson of Florida; and six grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by a sister, Leona Divelbliss.
Services will be Monday at 11 a.m. at Damascus Christian Church, Big Cove Tannery, Pa. The Rev. William Clark and the Rev. Charles Barney will officiate. Burial will be in the adjoining Damascus cemetery with military graveside honors conducted by American Legion Post 42 of Hagerstown.
The family will receive friends today from 7 to 9 p.m. at Grove Funeral Home, 141 W. Main St., Hancock; and Monday one hour prior to the services at the church. For the convenience of friends, the funeral home will be open today from 2 to 9 p.m.
Marilyn M. Needy
NORTH FORT MYERS, Fla. - Marilyn Mae Needy, 76, of 206 Days Lane, died Saturday, Jan. 2, 1999, at Hope Hospice House, Lee County, Fla.
Born in Frederick County, Md., she was the daughter of the late Paul Foster and Hilda Mae Wastler Fleagle.
She was a 1940 graduate of Hagerstown High School and a 1941 graduate of Hagerstown Business College.
She was a teacher at Hagerstown Business College/Maryland Medical Secretary School; as well as, an executive secretary at Boeing in Philadelphia.
She was a long-time member of St. Paul's EUB Church in Hagerstown, where she was a Sunday School teacher. Upon retiring to Fort Myers in 1979, she was a member of First United Methodist Church of North Fort Myers, where she was a member of Mary Martha Ladies Circle and for numerous years served as president of United Methodist Women of the Church.
She was a long-time member of Praise Choir; and from time to time, she also sang with Village Singers of Lazy Days Mobile Home Park.
She is survived by her husband, C. Edward Needy Jr. of North Fort Myers; a daughter, Lynne M. Needy-Weltzin of Elko, Nev.; two sons, Lawrence R. Needy and Kenneth L. Needy, both of Hagerstown; five grandchildren; seven great-grandchildren; three nieces and nephews; and cousins.
She was preceded in death by a brother, Paul Foster Fleagle Jr.
Memorial services will be held at a later date at First United Methodist Church, North Fort Myers.

Frederick E. Beachley
CHEVY CHASE, Md. - Frederick Edwin Beachley, 90, a retired attorney and former representative to the Maryland House of Delegates, died of a stroke Thursday, Dec. 31, 1998, at a nursing home in Chevy Chase.
He was born in Hagerstown.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Mary E. Beachley, in 1991.
He graduated from the University of Virginia in 1930 and the University of Maryland Law School in 1932.
From 1935 to 1941, he represented Washington County as a Democrat in the Maryland House of Delegates. At that time, he was the youngest member ever elected to that body. He stayed in Annapolis and worked for the Taxation Department of the Maryland state government in the early 1940s, moving to Washington, D.C., in the mid-1940s to work at the Retirement Division of the U.S. Civil Service Commission. He moved to Bethesda, Md., in 1949, and practiced law part-time until the late 1970s. For the last four years, he resided at H.C.R. Manor Care of Chevy Chase.
He was a lifelong member of Elks Lodge 378 in Hagerstown.
He is survived by his daughter, Judy Hubbard Saul of Washington, D.C.; and two grandsons, Andrew Lewis Hubbard of New York City and Jesse Hanson Hubbard of Washington, D.C.
Services will be today at 1 p.m. at DeVol Funeral Home, 2222 Wisconsin Ave., N.W., Washington, D.C. Burial will be Monday at noon in Rest Haven Cemetery, Hagerstown.
Camelia C. Bricker
Camelia Celesta "Dolly" Bricker, of 13016 Salem Avenue, died Wednesday, Dec. 30, 1998 at Frederick Memorial Hospital, Frederick, Md.
Born in Trego, Md., she was the daughter of the late Orion Theodore and Maxie Myrtle Arnold Byrd.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Lloyd Calvin Bricker, who died in 1973.
She retired from the Department of Social Services in 1981, after 18 years of service.
She was a member of Maryland Classified Employees Association.
She is survived by one son, Thomas Orion of Frederick; two stepdaughters, Leona Miller and Louise Horst, both of Greencastle, Pa.; one stepson, M. Edgar Bricker of Greencastle; three grandchildren; four great-grandchildren, nine step-grandchildren and ten great-step-grandchildren.
Funeral services will be held at the convenience of the family. Burial will be in Rest Haven Cemetery, Hagerstown. The Rev. Roger K. Myers will officiate.
There will be no viewing.

Evelyn G. Royer
BOONSBORO - Evelyn Grace Sprenkle Royer, 84, a resident of Reeder's Memorial Home, formerly of 12030 Christy Ave., Smithsburg, died Thursday, Dec. 31, 1998 at Washington County Hospital.
Born April 17, 1914 in Roadside, Washington Township near Waynesboro, Pa., she was the daughter of the late Merle H. and Blanche J. Miner Sprenkle.
She was preceded in death in 1995, by her husband, Donald O. "Don" Royer Sr., whom she married
Nov. 23, 1934.
She was a waitress at the former White Swan, and then at the Eagle's Club, Inc., both in Waynesboro.
She was a member of Christ United Methodist Church, Waynesboro.
She is survived by one daughter, Norma J. King of Walkersville, Md.; three sons, Donald O. Royer, Jr. of Hagerstown, Paul Eugene Royer of Buckeystown, Md., and Richard S. Royer of Bend, Ore.; two sisters, Martha Hartman, and Emma Feaster, both of Waynesboro; one brother, Richard Sprenkle of Waynesboro; nine grandchildren; seven great-grandchildren; and a number of nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by one brother, Merle H. Sprenkle, Jr.
Funeral services will be held Wednesday at 11 a.m. at Grove Funeral Home, 50 S. Broad St., Waynesboro. The Rev. Jay E. Zimmerman will officiate. Burial will be in Green Hill Cemetery, Waynesboro.
The family will receive friends Tuesday evening from 7 to 8 at the funeral home.
