Patricia A. Bishoff
Former Dundalk resident Patricia Anne Bishoff of Owings Mills, 61, died of cancer July 23 [2003] at an assisted living center in Finksburg.
She had been a longtime employee of Sears and had also worked at Douron Inc., an office supply business in Owings Mills.
She was a parishioner of Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Glyndon.
A gourmet cook, she liked watching TV shows about cooking. Before she became ill, she also enjoyed snow skiing.
She was devoted to her only grandson, Justin W. Bishoff, and enjoyed their long walks and conversations.
Also surviving are son Robert W. Bishoff Jr. of Westminster and brothers Wayne Wheeler of Ohio and Thomas Wheeler of Dundalk. She was predeceased by a sister.
Services were held July 25 at Duda-Ruck Funeral Home. Interment followed at Oak Lawn Cemetery.
Thomas C. Crowley
Thomas Coleman Crowley, a Charlesmont resident for 44 years, died at home July 23 [2003] after a yearlong battle with cancer. He was 75.
A U.S. Army veteran, he served in both Japan and Korea. He had earlier been a member of the U.S. Navy Reserves. He belonged to Wells-McComas VFW Post 2678 and was a member of an American Legion Post in Essex.
He worked for Continental Can Co. for 13 years, The News American for 22 years and for The Sun for eight years as a street salesman. He had been a member of Teamsters Union Local 355.
He is survived by his wife of 51 years, Catherine (nee Sullivan), eight children, Kathleen Kerntke, Ethel Barrick, Maureen Disney, Thomas, Robert, Mary and Henry Crowley and Erin Wiedermann, sisters Virginia Tich, Kathleen Henry and Mary Craven, 22 grandchildren and five great-grandchildren. He was predeceased by a brother, Sonny Crowley. A grandson, Justin Crowley, died in 2001.
Services were held July 28 at Duda-Ruck Funeral Home. Interment followed at Sacred Heart of Jesus Cemetery.
Anthony A. D'Avella Jr.
Lifelong Dundalk resident Anthony Americus D'Avella Jr., 40, died after a long illness July 23 [2003] at Johns Hopkins Bayview Medical Center.
Mr. D'Avella worked in the construction industry as a carpenter, painter and drywall installer. He enjoyed fishing and crabbing in his spare time.
He will be missed by his mother, Catherine D'Avella of Dundalk, sisters Sheila Scarboro, Catherine Kates and Tina D'Avella, all of Dundalk, and Denise Levitt of Pikesville, brother Bruce Altman of Dundalk, four nieces and seven nephews. He was predeceased by his father, Anthony A. D'Avella Sr.
Services were held July 25 at Duda-Ruck Funeral Home.
John P. Dove
Former Dundalk resident John P. Dove, 97, a retired structural mechanic with Martin-Marietta Co. who along with his wife co-owned Wise Cleaners for more than 34 years, died July 13 [2003] in New Bern, N.C., where he had been living with his son for the past 10 years.
Mr. Dove was born in Mayfield, Pa., on May 13, 1906. He joined the U.S. Army in 1928, serving in its last mounted cavalry unit, which was based in Fort Myer, Va. In March 1930, he rode with the 3rd Cavalry in the funeral cortege of President William Howard Taft.
Mr. Dove was a founding member of the Wise Avenue Volunteer Fire Company, serving more than 50 years as a firefighter and supporter. In North Carolina, he volunteered countless hours with the Neuse River Foundation, an organization dedicated to river protection.
He was an avid sports fan and played left field for the Fort Myer and Fort Holabird baseball teams.
Predeceased by his wife, Frances (nee Kowalski), he is survived by daughter Bernice Restivo of Pittsboro, N.C., son Richard Dove of New Bern, N.C., brother Frank Grzywacz of Mount Pocono, Pa., sisters Catherine Shumski of Elmwood, N.J., and Betty Morrow of Saddle River, N.J., four grandchildren and six great-grandchildren. He also was predeceased by brother Joseph Dove, sister Mary Tomaskovic and grandson Todd Dove.
Services were held July 19 at Duda-Ruck Funeral Home. Interment followed at St. Stanislaus Cemetery.
Lena G. Fackett
Lifelong Dundalk resident Lena Grace Fackett, 82, died of complications of heart surgery July 18 [2003] at Johns Hopkins Hospital.
Born to Italian immigrant parents Frank and Josephine Vitale, the former Lena Vitale worked in her family's Holabird Avenue grocery store from the time she was a young girl until the store closed in the early 1970s.
Interested in baking her whole life, she became an expert at an early age, when relatives shared recipes, skills and passion for making traditional Italian cookies, cakes and pies.
She was a lifelong parishioner of St. Rita Church.
In addition to her husband of 57 years, Frank J. Fackett Sr., she is survived by two sons, Frank J. Fackett Jr. of Huntington Beach, Calif., and Stephen Fackett of Bird River Beach, sisters Mary Matczuk and Marie Tumminello, three grandchildren and two great-grandchildren. A sister, Frances Gigliotti, and a brother, Joseph Vitale, predeceased her.
Services were held July 22 at Duda-Ruck Funeral Home. Interment followed at Holy Redeemer Cemetery.
Betty J. Hall
Berkshire resident Betty J. Hall, 73, died after a short illness June 18 [2003] at Greater Baltimore Medical Center.
Mrs. Hall worked as an operator for C&P Telephone from the late 1940s to the late 1960s. She went back to work at C&P for a few years in the early 1970s.
Born May 19, 1930, in Asheville, N.C., the former Betty Jean Gregg married Jack D. Hall in 1949. They lived on Liberty Parkway before moving to Berkshire in the mid-1950s.
She liked to read and enjoyed traveling with her husband on golfing vacations, visiting relatives in Tennessee and North Carolina and spending time with her only grandchild, Brandy Woofter.
Predeceased in 2000 by her husband of 51 years, she also is survived by daughter Jackie Woofter, brother Ron Gregg and sisters Barbara Tipton and Sandy Carver. A sister, Rebecca Hall, also predeceased her.
The Rev. Bob Stevens conducted services June 23 at Connelly Funeral home and at the chapel of Holly Hill Memorial Gardens, where she was buried next to her husband.

Charles H. Ludwig
Longtime Dundalk resident Charles H. Ludwig, 88, died July 24 [2003] at a retirement home in Frederick.
Mr. Ludwig worked at Bethlehem Steel for 38 years.
He is survived by his wife of almost 67 years, Hazel (nee Jorgensen), sons Douglas and Thomas Ludwig, daughter Sally Ludwig, brother Henry Ludwig, eight grandchildren and nine great-grandchildren.
Services were private.
Ellis D. Mosel
North Point Road resident Ellis Duane "Jim" Mosel, 72, a retired Baltimore County toll collector, died June 21 [2003] at Franklin Square Hospital.
Mr. Mosel worked for a time for Arcrods, Inc., and for 20 years as a carpet installer before he became a toll collector and maintenance worker at the old Dundalk Avenue bridge across Bear Creek.
He loved taking hunting, fishing and card-playing vacations with his friends in West Virginia.
Born, raised and eduated in Saxton, Pa., he lived in Edgemere for 55 years.
Predeceased by his wife, the former Regina Blevins, he is survived by daughter Donna Jean Mosel, his 90-year-old mother, Mildred E. Mosel (nee Negley) of Edgemere, brothers Jack M. and Wallace "Mack" Mosel, sisters Shirley Steele, Beverly Amos and Donna Stern and one grandson. He also leaves behind four stepchildren, 13 stepgrandchildren, 13 stepgreat-grandchildren
and companion Ethel Lantieri. A sister, Janet Heffner, died in 1966.
The Rev. Robert Peters of Jones Creek Christian Church conducted services June 26 at Connelly Funeral Home. Interment followed at Meadowridge Memorial Park.
Rosemarie Piniecki
Colgate homemaker Rosemarie Piniecki, 67, died at home July 21 [2003] after a long illness.
The former Rosemarie DiMaio grew up in Highlandtown and graduated from Our Lady of Pompei High School.
Years ago, she enjoyed making ceramics in her basement studio. More recently, she liked reading and watching cooking shows on television. She was extremely devoted to her only grandson, Mich-ael W. Piniecki.
She also leaves behind her husband of 39 years, William J. Piniecki, son Michael A. Piniecki, sister Patricia Dillon and brothers Norbert and Weido DiMaio.
A Mass of Christian Burial was celebrated July 25 at Our Lady of Pompei Catholic Church. Interment followed at Garrison Forest Veterans Cemetery.
Viola R. Rose
Oakwood Road resident Viola R. Rose, 83, died July 25 [2003] at Johns Hopkins Bayview Medical Center.
Born Viola R. Rozell and raised in Rib Lake, Wisc., she moved to Virginia when she was a young girl, studied nursing in Newport News, Va., working as a registered nurse at Riverside Hospital there.
She married Robert F. Rose on Jan. 7, 1946, in Elkton, Md., and moved with him to Baltimore the next day. They became Gray Manor residents in 1952.
An active member of First Lutheran Church of Gray Manor, she belonged to its Church Circle and Bible study groups.
In addition to her husband of 57 years, she is survived by daughter Roberta R. Stepp, son Ronald E. Rose, brothers Earl and William Rozell, sister Beulah Lewis and three grandchildren.
She was predeceased in 1966 by a son, James S. Rose.
Services were held July 28 at First Lutheran Church of Gray Manor. Interment followed at Meadowridge Memorial Gardens.

Mildred T. Sawyer
Longtime Watersedge resident Mildred T. Sawyer died June 22 [2003] at age 92.
Born March 4, 1911, in Asheville, N.C., the former Mildred Teague was the last surviving member of a family of eight children.
Mrs. Sawyer was extremely proud of having worked for many years as a medical secretary at Johns Hopkins University and in that capacity worked for a time for the noted pediatric cardiologist Alex Haller.
She was a member of Dundalk United Meth-odist Church for more than 50 years and participated in many church activities. She also was a longtime member of the Dizzy Pleasure Club.
She was an excellent cook and an avid gardener and was especially fond of growing roses. She devoted her life to the needs of family, always placing them foremost in her thoughts.
Preceded in death by two husbands, James P. Sawyer and Bennie C. Funderburke, she will be missed by children James P. Sawyer III of Asheville, N.C., Eugene T. Sawyer of Camp Hill, Pa., and Nancy C. Robertson of Hanover, Pa., seven grandchildren and 15 great-grandchildren. She considered Christopher Stritch of Watersedge her adopted grandson and was grateful for the devotion and many kindnesses he showed her over the years. Mrs. Sawyer also leaves behind many more family members and friends.
Services on June 25 at Connelly Funeral Home were followed by interment at Gardens of Faith Cemetery.

Carl T. Springer
Retired steelworker Carl T. Springer, 80, died July 14 [2003] at his son-in-law's home in Cecil County.
A native Pennsylvanian, Mr. Springer and his wife, the former Helen E. Morgan, had been married for almost 61 years when she died July 12.
A Bethlehem Steel retiree, he served in the U.S. Army during World War II and was a member of Charles Evering VFW Post 6506. He also belonged to Loyal Order of Moose.
In addition to his wife, he was predeceased by a daughter, Sandra Lee Noullet.
He is survived by son-in-law George C. Noullet, sister Harriet Gumotto of New York and many other family members.
According to his wishes, his body was donated to the Anatomy Board of Maryland for medical research.
