ROBERT G. FEDALER

CUMBERLAND - Robert Gene Fedaler, 44, of Cumberland, died Tuesday, April 15, 1997, at his residence.

Born June 19, 1952, in Sacramento, Calif., he was the son of Freda Jones, Sacramento. He also was preceded in death by his stepfather and one half sister, Lee Ann Jones.

Mr. Fedaler moved to the Cumberland area in 1987. He was a retired sheet metal worker and former member of the Sheet Metal Union in California. He was Methodist by faith. He greatly enjoyed music and going to the movies. He was an avid fisherman and woodworker, and an active member of Archway Station, Inc. He loved Dancer and Cleo, his two pet cockatiels.

With Archway, he served always as an advocate, but also volunteered as a member of their board of directors and the membership governing council. He was a graduate and an active member of the Maryland Leadership, Empowerment, and Advocacy Program, or LEAP.

He was often in contact with government officials regarding services and funding for local mental health programs. He was a current member of the Allegany County Chapter of On Our Own, and the Consumer Advisory Board.

Surviving, in addition to his mother, are two half sisters, Linda and Jennifer; two half brothers, LaRoy and Michael; and several nieces and nephews. Also surviving are very dear friends, Dave Horn, and Carla and Pam Robertson. He will be missed by friends David Brode, Lou Ann Townsend, Lee Baker, Vicky Dye, and many others.

Mr. Fedaler donated his body to medical science. A memorial service will be conducted at the Scarpelli Funeral Home, 108 Virginia Ave., Cumberland, Monday at 10 a.m. with the Rev. Stan G. Cardwell officating.

HUBERT J. FEENEY

CUMBERLAND - Hubert J. "Mick" Feeney, 76, of Cumberland, died Thursday, Aug. 21, 1997, at Memorial Hospital.

Born March 14, 1921, in Cumberland, he was the son of the late Patrick L. and Bertha C. (Laing) Feeney. He also was preceded in death by one sister, Catherine F. Stump; two brothers, William L. Feeney and James P. Feeney.

Mr. Feeney was retired from PPG Industries, Cumberland. He was a U.S. Navy veteran of World War II. He was a member of St. Mary's Catholic Church, where he was a former usher and lector. He was president of St. Mary's Home School Association. He was a referee for high school and college football in the Allegany County area for many years. He was a member of Knights of Columbus Fourth Degree.

Surviving are his wife, Elizabeth (Fulbright) Feeney; three sons, Timothy Feeney, Mesa, Ariz., Terrance P. Feeney Sr. and wife Louise, Prescott, Ariz., and William J. Feeney and wife Louise, Cumberland; one daughter, S. Catherine Lindner and husband William, Columbia; two brothers, F. Gerard Feeney, South Bend, Ind., and Peter A. Feeney, Cumberland; one sister, Patricia J. Norton, Paw Paw, W.Va.; and four grandchildren, Terrance P. Feeney Jr., Christopher M. Feeney, Douglas R. Feeney, all of Phoenix, Ariz., and Sarah E. Feeney, Cumberland.

Friends will be received at the Scarpelli Funeral Home, 108 Virginia Ave., Cumberland, on Saturday from 7 to 9 p.m. and on Sunday from 3 to 5 and 7 to 9 p.m.

Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at St. Mary's Catholic Church on Monday at 10 a.m. with Father Milton A. Hipsley as celebrant.

Interment will be in St. Mary's Cemetery.

The family requests expressions of sympathy be made to St. Mary's Church Organ Fund.

A Christian wake service will be held at the funeral home on Sunday at 3:30 p.m.

HOY W. FERGUSON

RIDGELEY, W.Va. - Hoy W. "Bud" Ferguson, 63, of Ridgeley, died Wednesday, Dec. 3, 1997, at Sacred Heart Hospital, Cumberland.

Born March 17, 1934, in Kerens, he was the son of the late Harry H. and Goldie L. (Arbogast) Ferguson.

Mr. Ferguson was retired from the Kelly-Springfield Tire Company. He was a Baptist by faith, and he was a U.S. Army veteran.

Surviving are his wife, Ann M. (Deffenbaugh) Ferguson; three daughters, Diane M. Robinette and husband Greg, Debra M. DeVore and Bruce Snyder, and Tammy L. Miltenberger and husband Jeff, all of Ridgeley; one brother, Harvey H. Ferguson and wife Patty, Marianna, Pa.; two sisters, Virginia M. Deffenbaugh and husband Jack, Munhall, Pa., and Betty R. Heckel and husband Melvin, Elkins; four grandchildren, Shawn and Chad Robinette, and Davie and Autumn Miltenberger; two special friends, Dave Miller and Ron Whitacre; and several nieces and nephews.

Friends will be received at the Scarpelli Funeral Home, 108 Virginia Ave., Cumberland, on Friday from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m.

Services will be conducted at the funeral home on Saturday at 1 p.m. with the Rev. Benny R. Brakeall officiating.

Interment will be in Restlawn Memorial Gardens, LaVale.

Pallbearers will be Dave Miller, Ron Whitacre, Shawn Robinette, Chad Robinette, Buck Arbogast, and Johnnie Deffenbaugh.

SPRING-MARIAH FERTIG

KEYSER, W.Va. - Spring-Mariah Grace Fertig, 16, of Route 1, Box 224-A, Keyser, died Friday, Aug. 29, 1997, as the result of injuries sustained in an automobile accident on Route 135 in Westernport.

Born on April 27, 1981, in Cumberland, she was the daughter of Gregory L. and Spring (Giles) Fertig of Keyser.

Miss Fertig was a Junior at Keyser High School. She was a member of the Keyser High School Band, serving as percussion captain, and was a member of the cross- country and basketball teams, Mu Alpha Theta, Student Council, and Junior Classical League.

Miss Fertig was a member of the Fountain United Brethren in Christ Church, Keyser. She was a Girl Scout for ten years and served as a counselor at Camp White Rock for three years.

Surviving in addition to her parents are one brother G.B. Fertig, at home; paternal grandfather, Wendell Fertig, Keyser; maternal grandparents, Robert and Roberta Giles, Pittsburgh, Pa., and Grace and Glen Brooks, New Martinsville, W.Va.; three uncles; one aunt; and several cousins.

Friends will be received at the Rotruck-Smith Funeral Home, Keyser, on Tuesday from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m.

Funeral services will be conducted at the Fountain United Brethren in Christ Church on Wednesday at 11 a.m. with the Rev. Michael Dean officiating.

The body will be taken to the church to lie in state one hour prior to the services.

NORMA L. FICKES

FINZEL - Norma Lee Fickes, 56, of 57 Sampson Rock Road, Finzel, died Sunday, Nov. 16, 1997, at Sacred Heart Hospital, Cumberland.

Born April 21, 1941, in Finzel, she was the daughter of Effie (Werner) Shockey, Finzel, and the late Roy Shockey.

Mrs. Fickes was a homemaker. She was a member of the Faith Independent Baptist Church, Frostburg.

Surviving, in addition to her mother, are her husband of 32 years, Herman Fickes; two sons, Billy J. Fickes, Grantsville, and Barry E. Fickes and wife Kimberly, LaVale; one brother, Rudy Shockey and wife Sandy; one sister, Bonnie Shockey, all of Finzel; two grandchildren, Jennifer Fickes and Christopher Fickes, both of Grantsville; and several nieces and nephews.

Friends will be received at the Durst Funeral Home, Frostburg, on Monday from 7 to 9 p.m. and on Tuesday from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m.

Services will be conducted at the Faith Independent Baptist Church, 301 Shaw St., Frostburg, on Wednesday at 11 a.m. with Pastor David Childs officiating.

Interment will be in Finzel Cemetery.

DELMAS G. FIKE

RAWLINGS - Delmas Gene Fike, 54, of Rawlings, died Tuesday, Feb. 18, 1997, at the Washington Hospital Center, Washington, D.C.

Born March 8, 1942, at Swallow Falls, he was the son of the late Harry D. and Ruby V. (Friend) Fike.

Mr. Fike graduated from Bruce High School in 1960 and joined the U.S. Navy as an enlisted man after high school. He went through the ranks to become a chief warrant officer, and entered the officer's program. He retired as a lieutenant in 1980 with 20 years of dedicated service. He served aboard the USS Intrepid, USS Cadamus, USS Mount Vernon, USS Nanahaula, and USS Belleau Wood, retiring from San Diego, Calif., to Rawlings. He served in Cuba, Vietnam, and the Iran Crisis.

Mr. Fike was an active member of Danville Church of the Brethren, Rawlings, having served on the church board, as board chairman, Sunday school teacher, and a dedicated servant of the Lord. In addition to his active church work, Mr. Fike enjoyed woodworking, fishing and the sports activities of his children and grandchildren. A devoted husband, father and grandfather, Mr. Fike will be greatly missed by his loved ones, his fellow church family, his neighbors and friends. Surviving are his wife of 35 years, Sandra Mae (VanMeter) Fike; two daughters, Sherri L. Ziler and husband Wayne, McCoole, Shelby S. Fike and fiance Mark Fost, Potomac Park; one son, Delmas Gene Fike Jr. and wife Kelly, Short Gap, W.Va.; three beloved grandchildren, David, Amanda and Lindsey Ziler; four brothers, Lloyd F. Fike and wife Clara, McCoole, Harry E. Fike and wife Sandy, Frostburg, Blair M. Fike and wife Karen, Newport News, Va., and Blaine M. Fike and wife Patty, Biloxi, Miss.; two sisters, Linda L. Keller and husband David, Orange Park, Fla., and Janice E. Martin and husband Howard, Keyser, W.Va.; and numerous nieces, nephews, great-nieces and great-nephews.

Friends will be received at the Scarpelli Funeral Home, Cresaptown, Thursday from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m.

Services will be conducted at the funeral home Friday at 2 p.m. with the Rev. Robert Nealis and Louise Nealis officiating.

A memorial service will be held by the McCoole VFW at the funeral home on Thursday at 7:30 p.m.

Interment will be in Sunset Memorial Park, Cumberland. Military honors will be accorded by the McCoole VFW Post 6775 at the gravesite.

Pallbearers will be nephews Andy VanMeter, Jason VanMeter, Sean Ellifritz, Richard Martin, David Kenner, and Matt James.

Contributions may be made to the Danville Church of the Brethren, 20510 McMullen Highway SW, Rawlings, MD 21557.

The family of Delmas Gene Fike finds peace and comfort in knowing that our precious ``D.G.'' has made his home with the Lord.

FRANK T. FIKE

PIEDMONT, W.Va. - Frank T. Fike, 70, of 2 Woodlawn Avenue, Piedmont, died Saturday, June 14, 1997, at Sacred Heart Hospital, Cumberland.

Born Nov. 30, 1926, in Piedmont, he was the son of the late Samuel K. and Rhoda (Merrill) Fike. He also was preceded in death by a sister, Helen DeWitt; and a brother, Ralph Fike.

Mr. Fike retired from Westvaco Corporation as a Calendar Room operator with 41 years of service. He was a member of the Westernport Church of the Brethren.

He was a veteran of World War II, enlisting voluntarily and serving with the U.S. Marines, 3rd Marine Division in Artillery. When the Korean conflict broke out, he was a member of the Active Reserves, Company D, Cumberland. He and his entire company were called up and he was one of the first eight that left with Company D, 1st Battalion, from San Diego, Calif., for Korea. He served in Korea and was one of the survivors of the Chosin Reservoir, being designated the "Chosin Few."

Mr. Fike was a life member of Kelly Mansfield Post No. 52 American Legion. He served as first vice commander of the Kelly Mansfied Post for many years, and was responsible for the flags that are placed on the streets of Piedmont. This had been his project because Frank was a patriotic man who loved his country.

He was a life member of Queens Point VFW No. 6775, McCoole; a life member of the Disabled American Veterans; and a member of Luke Local U.P.I.U. No. 676.

He also was the former mayor serving two terms in 1967 and 1969, prior to being mayor he served as a councilman for the town of Piedmont.

Surviving are his wife, Jessie (Channell) Fike; one son, Bob Fike and wife Leslie, Piedmont; one daughter, Beverly Kitzmiller and husband Lewis, Barton; one brother, Paul Fike and wife Betty, Arlington, Va.; one sister, Ruth Gift and husband Jim, Westernport; three grandchildren, Brant Kitzmiller and wife Ellen, Cresaptown, Lewis Kitzmiller II, and Ashley Kitzmiller, both of Barton; and one great-grandchild, Abby Lynn.

Friends will be received at the Boal Funeral Home, Westernport, on Monday from 7 to 9 p.m. and on Tuesday from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. Queens Point VFW will hold a memorial service at the funeral home on Monday at 7:30 p.m.

Services will be held at the Westernport Church of the Brethren on Wednesday at 1 p.m. with the Rev. Ervin Huston and the Rev. Jack Pease officiating. The body will be taken to the church one hour prior to the service.

Interment will be in Philos Cemetery, Westernport, where full military rites will be accorded at the graveside by various veterans organizations.

Pallbearers will be Brant Kitzmiller, Lewis Kitzmiller II, Jarold Wilson, James Gift, Kenny Ross, and Bernard Fazenbaker. Honorary pallbearer will be William Hood.

Anyone wishing to make a donation in Frank's memory to services which he supported, Rescue Squad, Fire Company, etc., may pick up a memorial card at the funeral home.

WILLIAM W. FIKE, SR.

OAKLAND - William W. Fike Sr., 66, of Fingerboard Road, Oakland, died Tuesday, July 22, 1997, at his residence.

Born May 27, 1931, in Vindex, he was the son of the late Walter G. and Nora F. (Knox) Fike. He also was preceded in death by his first wife, Sadie K. (Paugh) Fike, in 1989.

Mr. Fike retired in 1993 from Wood Products where he worked for 34 years. He also enjoyed woodworking as a hobby.

Surviving are his wife, Martha A. Fike; one daughter, Vivian K. Nazelrod, Reedsville, W.Va.; two stepdaughters, Cynthia Fike, Cumberland, and Lorrie Burns, Loch Lynn; three sons, William W. Fike Jr., Russell E. Fike, and Orlando V. Fike, all of Oakland; two stepsons, Melvin Fike and Tim Fike, both of Serville, Tenn; three sisters, Beulah Beeman, Oakland, Violet Helmick, Gormania, W.Va., and Janet Friend, Oakland; three brothers, Elmer E. Fike, Oakland, Harold L. Fike, Mountain Lake Park, and Dennis H. Fike, Oakland; nine grandchildren and two great-grandchildren.

Friends will be received at the Stewart Funeral Home, 32 S. Second St., Oakland, on Thursday from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m.

Services will be held at the funeral home on Friday at 2 p.m. with the Rev. Joseph Phillips officiating.

Interment will be in Garrett County Memorial Gardens.
