WILLIAM JAMES BROWN
SHORT GAP, W.Va. - William James Brown, 89, of Short Gap, died Monday, June 23, 1997, at Memorial Hospital.
Born Oct. 8, 1907, in Morgantown, he was the son of the late Emory C. and Sarah Catherine (Trader) Brown. He also was preceded in death by his wife, Opal (Gibson) Brown.
Mr. Brown was a retired mechanic for Boeing Aircraft.
Surviving are two daughters, Barbara Hoffer, Philadelphia, Pa., and Rebecca Compton, Athens, Pa.; a son, James Brown; 11 grandchildren; and 23 great-grandchildren.
At the request of Mr. Brown, his remains will be cremated. There will be no visitation and no services.
Merritt-Adams Funeral Home, 404 Decatur St., Cumberland, is in charge of the arrangements.
ALBERT L. "AL" BROWNING, SR.
WILEY FORD, W.Va. - Albert L. "Al" Browning, Sr., 76, of Wiley Ford, went to be with the Lord, Saturday, Nov. 15, 1997, at Sacred Heart Hospital, Cumberland.
Born Oct. 5, 1921, in Flintstone, he was the son of the late Walker and Mary O. (Garland) Browning.
Mr. Browning was a former employee of the South Cumberland Planing Mill, and retired from the Cumberland Concrete Corporation, Cumberland.
He was a member of the Wiley Ford Church of the Brethren and a former member of the Wiley Ford Volunteer Fire Company.
Surviving are his wife of 54 years, Mary V. (Carlile) Browning; five sons, Albert L. "Butch" Browning, Jr. and wife, Rae, Fort Ashby, W.Va., Richard W. Browning and wife, Brenda, Carpendale, W.Va., Randy L. Browning, Wiley Ford, Frank W. Campbell and wife, Linda, Splendora, Texas, and Ralph L. Campbell and wife Stacy, Wiley Ford; numerous foster children; two sisters, Hazel Bobo, Cumberland, and Nora Hiett and husband, Charles, Short Gap; ten grandchildren, Tanya Browning Smith and husband, Robbie, Albert L. "Butch" Browning III, Michael Shane Browning and wife, Wendi, Troy A. Browning and wife, Stacey, Reed B. Browning, Shawn Browning, Nathan Browning, Seth Campbell, Travis Campbell, and Brent Campbell; and seven great-grandchildren.
Friends will be received at Scarpelli Funeral Home, 108 Virginia Avenue, Cumberland, Sunday from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. and Monday from 3 to 5 and 7 to 9 p.m.
Services will be conducted at the Wiley Ford Church of the Brethren, Tuesday at 1 p.m. with the Rev. Paul Dietz and the Rev. Benny Brakeall officiating.
Friends will be received one hour prior to the service at the church.
Interment will be in Rest Lawn Memorial Gardens, LaVale.
Pallbearers will be grandchildren.
GEORGIA E. BROWNING
CUMBERLAND - Georgia Elizabeth Browning, 85, of 408 Broadway Street, Cumberland, died Thursday, July 24, 1997, at her home.
Born June 23, 1912, in Connellsville, Pa., she was the daughter of the late Harry McLaughlin and the late Pauline (Lemke) McLaughlin.
She also was preceded in death by a brother, Harry McLaughlin; and two sisters, Wanda Davis and Harriet Cerat.
Mrs. Browning was a retired nursing assistant at Sacred Heart Hospital.
She was a member of the St. Patrick's Catholic Church.
Surviving are two daughters, Beverly Ann Browning, Cumberland, and Mary Joyce Stitcher and husband James K., Severna Park; one brother, Charles McLaughlin, Phoenix, Ariz.; four sisters, Jane DeWolfe, Sebring, Fla., Evelyn Vaters, Pinellas, Fla., Dorothy Myers, Connellsville, Pa., and Dolores Fricano, Scottsdale, Pa.; three grandsons, James Brian Stitcher, David Frederick Stitcher and Craig Steven Stitcher and wife Jennifer, all of Crofton; and one great-granddaughter, Alexis Stitcher, Crofton.
Friends will be received at the Merritt-Adams Funeral Home, 404 Decatur St., Cumberland, on Sunday from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m.
Services will be conducted at the funeral home on Monday at 11 a.m. with the Rev. Thomas R. Bevan officiating.
Interment will be in the St. Patrick's Catholic Cemetery.
Contributions may be made to the St. Patrick's Catholic Church.

KEYSER, W.Va. - Mary Lou (Haggerty) Browning, 68, of 500 Carskadon Lane, Keyser, died Friday, May 2, 1997, at the Potomac Valley Hospital, Keyser.
Born Sept. 18, 1928, at Keyser, she was the daughter of the late Bessie M. Browning and the adopted daughter of the late Frederick and Hallie Haggerty.
Mrs. Browning was Presbyterian by faith.
Surviving are three sons, Thomas L. Browning, Lacey, Wash. Daniel F. Browning and wife Theresa, Nitro, and Michael D. Browning and wife, Penny, Poinciana, Fla.; one daughter, Diana L. Barbera and husband Ernie, Fountain; five grandchildren, Craig Browning, Lacey, Wash., Angelina Browning, Nitro, Shaina Browning, Poinciana, Fla., Nunzio E. Barbera III, Fountain, and Joseph ``Peppy'' Barbera, Fountain.
Friends will be received at the Rotruck-Smith Funeral Home, Keyser, on Monday from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m.
There will be no funeral services.
Interment will be in Queens Point Cemetery, Keyser.

LAKEWORTH, Fla. - Jean Bray Broz, 63, of Lakeworth, formerly of Blaine, W.Va., died Thursday, July 17, 1997, at Lakeworth.
Born in Shaw, W.Va. she was a daughter of Ina (Simon) Bray, Blaine, and the late George Bray.
She also was preceded in death by five brothers, Paul, Larry, Jimmy, Ellsworth "Bing," and Martin.
In addition to her mother, she is survived by her husband, John Broz; seven children; and nine grandchildren; two sisters, Wanda Grimes, Philadelphia, Pa., and Christina Hilbert, Buffalo, N.Y.; two brothers, Ronald Bray, Haines, Fla., and Kenneth Bray, Gulfport, Fla. Funeral services and interment was held in Lakeworth, Fla.
GLADYS V. BRUCE
HERMITAGE, Tenn. - Gladys Virginia Bruce, 85, of McKendree Manor, Hermitage, formerly of Cumberland, Md., died Monday, Feb. 24, 1997, at McKendree Manor.
Born in Westernport, Md., she was the daughter of William Fatkin and Ida Pearl (Ross) Fatkin.
Mrs. Bruce lived in Cumberland, Md., until 1966, when she moved to Tennessee.
Services will be at the Bass Funeral Home, Gordonsville, on Thursday, Feb. 27, 1997, at 2 p.m.
FRANCES M. BRUMAGE
KEYSER, W.Va. - Frances M. Brumage, 73, of HC 84, Box 35, Keyser, died Saturday, April 5, 1997, at the Potomac Valley Hospital, Keyser.
Born May 2, 1923, at Green Mountain, she was a daughter of the late William and Myrtle (Barrick) Green. She also was preceded in death by her husband, Donald C. Brumage, on Feb. 23, 1992; and two sons, Kenneth Brumage and Lawrence ``Buck'' Brumage Sr.
Mrs. Brumage was a member of the Harvest Time Pentecostal Church, Keyser.
Surviving are three daughters, Betty Jean Braithwaite and husband Donnie, Sandy Whetzel and husband Larry, and Beverly Jordan and husband Keith, all of Keyser; one son, Donald Mongold and wife Judy, Charleston; one sister, Virginia Shumaker, Keyser; 13 grandchildren; and 11 great-grandchildren.
Friends will be received at the Rotruck-Smith Funeral Home, Keyser, on Monday from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m.
Services will be conducted in the funeral home chapel on Tuesday at 11 a.m. with the Rev. David Shoemaker officiating.

JOHN L. BRUNK
CANTON, Ohio - John L. Brunk, 77, of 4003 30th St., NE, Canton, formerly of Cumberland, Md., died Thursday, April 17, 1997, in Canton.
Born Feb. 20, 1920, in Keyser, W.Va., he was the son of the late Welby Brunk and the late Mae (Fianagan) Brunk. He also was preceded in death by his wife, Ruthelda (Sears) Brunk; and a brother, Roy Brunk.
Mr. Brunk was a retired employee of LTV. He was a member of Moose Lodge 233 and the LTV Retirees Club.
Surviving are a son, Craig Brunk and wife Phyllis, Canton; four grandchildren, Christinia Brunk, Amanda Brunk, Tiffany Brunk and Michael Brunk, all of Canton; a sister, Susan Gloyd, Barberton; two brothers-in-law, Arthur L. Sears, Everett, Pa., and Harold Sears, Cumberland; a sister-in-law, Rita Frisk, Woodbridge, Va.; and several nieces and nephews.
