ELI JAMES BRUNO

KEYSER, W.Va. - Eli James Bruno, infant son of John E. Bruno, Jr., and Denise L. (Williamson) Bruno of Route 2, Box 20-A, Keyser, died at birth on Monday, Oct. 20, 1997 at the Memorial Hospital, Cumberland, Md.

Surviving, in addition to his parents, are: two brothers, John David Bruno and Scott E. Bruno, both at home; maternal grandparents, the Rev. James and Edna Williamson; and paternal grandparents, John and Wanda Bruno, all of Keyser.

Private graveside services will be conducted at the Potomac Memorial Gardens with the Rev. Daniel Garlitz officiating.

Interment will follow.

The Rotruck-Smith Funeral Home, Keyser, is in charge of arrangements.

NAOMI W. BRUNSON

LAVALE - Naomi W. Brunson, 89, of Robin Hood Drive, LaVale, formerly of Deep Creek Lake, died Wednesday, Nov. 19, 1997, at the Goodwill Mennonite Home, Grantsville.

Born May 7, 1908, in Baltimore, she was the daughter of the late John and Margaret E. (Neidert) Wade.

She also was preceded in death by her husband, George A. Brunson in 1988.

Mrs. Brunson was a Methodist by faith.

She is survived by three daughters, Vilma Mae Grimes, Lone Oak, Texas, E. Jeannine Gosnell, Oakland, and Charlotte Penn Lutz, LaVale; one sister, Erma Crane, Romney, W.Va.; 14 grandchildren; 28 great-grandchildren; and five great-great-grandchildren.

Friends will be received at the Stewart Funeral Home, Oakland, on Thursday from 7 to 9 p.m.

Services will be held at the funeral home on Friday, Nov. 21, 1997, at 2 p.m. with the Rev. Gail Hixon officiating.

Interment will be in Garrett County Memorial Gardens.

ANNA E. BRUST

FROSTBURG - Anna E. McLuckie Brust, 78, of Egle Nursing Home, Lonaconing, formerly of 120 Pine St., Frostburg, died Sunday, Oct. 5, 1997 at Egle Nursing Home.

Born March 20, 1919 in Cumberland she was the daughter of the late Earnest McLuckie and the late Dora (Malcolm) McLuckie.

She also was preceded in death by her husband, A. Trago Brust, in 1986; and a step-son, Richard Brust, in 1975.

Mrs. Brust was a retired teacher having taught at Beall High School and Fort Hill High School.

She was a member of the Centre Street United Methodist Church, Cumberland.

She was a graduate of Barton High School and Western Maryland College, and she was a member of the Retired Teachers Association.

Surviving are a stepson, Robert Brust and wife, Terri, of Frederick; six step-grandchildren, Michael Brust, Steven Brust, Stephanie Throup, Chris Brust, Robert Pusey, and Nathan Pusey; and a special friend, Helen Filer, Frostburg.

Friends will be received at the Boal Funeral Home, Lonaconing, on Tuesday from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m.

Services will be conducted at the funeral home on Wednesday at 11 a.m. with the Rev. Lloyd McCanna and the Rev. Steven Shussett officiating.

Interment will be in Sunset Memorial Park, near Cumberland.

HELEN M. BUCHHOLTZ

CUMBERLAND - Helen M. Buchholtz, 80, of the Allegany County Nursing Home, formerly of 713 Fayette St., Cumberland, died Tuesday, Jan. 7, 1997, at Memorial Hospital.

Born in McKeesport, Pa., to Herman and Fannie Miller on June 30, 1916, Helen was raised in Cumberland by her mother and stepfather, George Kemp, former Allegany County Sheriff.

Mrs. Buchholtz graduated from Allegany High School in 1934 and the Memorial Hospital School of Nursing in 1937.

Helen was an active nurse at Memorial Hospital until her retirement in 1973.

A life-long Christian and a lover of music, Helen was a member of the Centre Street United Methodist Church where she sang in the choir.

She also sang several leading roles in musicals at the Maryland Theater.

Helen was a resident of the Allegany County Nursing Home for the past three years.

She was preceded in death by her husband, William H. Buchholtz, a local businessman and several-term member of the Cumberland City Council during the 1950s.

Surviving are one daughter, Nancy Buchholtz; one son, Bill Buchholtz and his wife Peach; two granddaughters, Kim Kustelski and Susan McMillan; one great-granddaughter, Gina McMillan, all of San Antonio, Texas; and a distant cousin and very close personal friend, Emma Jean Smith, Cumberland.

Burial service is scheduled at the St. Peter and Paul Cemetery, Fayette Street, Cumberland, on Friday at 11 a.m.

RETHA J. BUCKLEY

ROMNEY, W.Va. - Retha Jean Buckley, 56, of Romney, died Tuesday, April 1, 1997, at Memorial Hospital, Cumberland, Md.

Born June 2, 1940, in Cumberland, she was the daughter of Martha S. Martin, Romney.

She also was preceded in death by her husband, Olen M. Buckley, on July 8, 1984.

Mrs. Buckley was president of Buckley's Distributing Co., Romney.

She was a member of VFW Auxiliary Post 1101, Romney; American Legion Auxiliary Post 91, Romney; and the Women of the Moose, Romney.

Surviving in addition to her mother are two sons, Gregg S. Buckley, Hobson, Mont., and Gary W. Buckley and wife Kim, Romney; one daughter, Brenda J. McBride and husband Mike, Romney; and one grandson, Matthew W. McBride.

At the request of the deceased, her body was cremated. There will be no visitation or funeral service.

Memorials may take the form of donations to the Hampshire County Helping Hands. The Shaffer Funeral Home, Romney, is in charge of the arrangements.

WILLIAM R. BURK

CUMBERLAND - William Richard Burk, 78, of 801 Braddock Road, Cumberland, went to be with the Lord, Tuesday, July 15, 1997, at Memorial Hospital as a result of prostate cancer.

Born July 23, 1918, in Luke, he was the son of the late Conrad Richard Burk and the late Mary M. (Sweitzer) Burk Staley.

Mr. Burk formally worked in the Research and Development of Staple Yarn. In the construction industry, he worked for Defense Plants, Inc., War Emergency Pipeline (big and little inch pipelines from Corpus Christi, Texas, to Linden, N.J., from 1940 to 1945, which was tied into Texas oil fields as far west as Midland and Odessa).

In the aircraft industry, he worked from 1945 to 1960, for Fairchild Aircraft, Hagerstown, as a planning and scheduling engineer, staff manager and assistant to the chief engineer.

In the construction industry, Mr. Burk worked for S.J. Groves, Roanoke River, in the construction of Lower Pump and Storage Dam at Holtwood, Va., C.J. Langenfelder and Son, Baltimore, as a field office manager for the Baltimore Beltway and North Point Boulevard, US Steel in Morrisville and Pittsburgh, Pa., as a project coordinator for the Kennedy Highway-Newport Interchange, Three Mile Island Nuclear Power Plant and the Big Walker Tunnel in Wythville, Va.

He was a member of the First Presbyterian Church.

Surviving are his wife Dottie (Raley) Bruck Runion Burk, Cumberland; two sons, Michael Burk and wife Tamera, Woodbine, Ga., and Richard Burk and wife Margie, Selma, Ala.; one daughter, Molly "Burk" Hartung and husband Fred, LaVale; one stepson, Billy Burton Bruck and wife Shella, Ellerslie; five grandchildren; three step grandchildren; five great-grandchildren; and five step great-grandchildren.

Friends will be received at the Merritt-Adams Funeral Home, 404 Decatur Street, Cumberland, on Thursday from 2 to 4 and 7 to 8 p.m.

A service will be conducted at the funeral home on Thursday at 8 p.m. with the Rev. Adam Grim officiating.

By request of Mr. Burk, his body will be cremated the following day.

In lieu of flowers, contributions may be sent to the Memorial Hospital Hospice Unit, 600 Memorial Ave., Cumberland, MD 21502, c/o Linda Valentine or to the Western Maryland Health System Home Care, Virginia Avenue, Cumberland, c/o Janice Lindner.

HELEN E. BURKETT

CUMBERLAND - Helen Elizabeth Burkett, 84, of the Cumberland Arms Apartments, 229 Baltimore Avenue, Cumberland, died Monday, July 21, 1997, at her apartment.

Born December 10, 1912, in Pittsburgh, Pa., she was the daughter of the late Addison and Sarah Bertha Eyler.

She also was preceded in death by her husband, Charles Frederick Burkett.

Mrs. Burkett was a former employee of Lazarus, Inc.

She was a member of Kingsley United Methodist Church.

Surviving are a niece, Sarah B. Heavner, Cumberland; a sister, Mary Beall, Cumberland; several nieces and nephews; and several great-nieces and great-nephews.

Friends will be received at the Merritt-Adams Funeral Home, 404 Decatur Street, Cumberland, on Wednesday from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m.

Services will be conducted at the funeral home on Thursday at 9:30 a.m. with the Rev. Richard Jewell officiating.

Interment will be in Sunset Memorial Park.

Pallbearers will be Scott Heavner, Robert Heavner, Roger Heavner, Floyd Stafford, Norman Gillum, and Merle Chaney.

IRVIN W. BURKETT

CORRIGANVILLE - Irvin W. Burkett, 87, of Corriganville, died Friday, April 18, 1997, at his residence.

Born January 5, 1910, at Ellerslie, he was a son of the late Howard W. and Esther E. (Pogue) Burkett.

He was the last surviving member of his immediate family.

Mr. Burkett retired as a truck driver and construction worker for Baughman's Construction Co.

He was a member of the Teamster's Union and had previously worked at the Celanese Corp. in Cumberland.

He was a lifetime member of St. John's United Church of Christ, Corriganville, where he had served as an elder for the past 27 years. He was a 44 year life member of Corriganville Volunteer Fire Department.

Surviving are his wife of 65 years, Leola (McKenzie) Burkett; four daughters, Lou Ann Shircliffe and husband Bill, Universal City, Texas, Jean Boor, Corriganville, Connie Martin and husband Dennis, LaVale, and Susan Aldridge and husband Charles, Corriganville; three sons, Robert Burkett and wife Mary Louise, Corriganville, William Burkett and wife Carole, Mount Savage, and Terry Burkett and wife Judy, Mount Savage; 20 grandchildren; and 17 great-grandchildren.

Irvin will be remembered as a loving husband, and a devoted father and grandfather. He was the strength and the love of all his children. Our children, his grandchildren, will remember him as the most remarkable, loving and giving man they have ever known. His grandsons enjoyed his many hunting and fishing stories, and he inspired them to become the kind of good men they all have become. His granddaughters loved his smile and they knew he would have done anything to make their life the best. He was our father, and all of our families adored him.

Friends will be received at the Harvey H. Zeigler Funeral Home, Hyndman, on Saturday from 7 to 9 p.m., on Sunday from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m., and at the church for one hour prior to the service.

Services will be conducted at St. John's United Church of Christ on Monday at 11 a.m. with the Rev. Ruth S. Kershner officiating.

Interment will be in Restlawn Memorial Gardens.

Grandsons will serve as pallbearers; David, Jim and Tom Shircliffe, John and Jeff Boor, Randy Aldridge, Dennis Martin, and Timothy, Jason, Mickey and Bill Burkett.

Honorary pallbearers will be Bruce and Terry Lee Burkett.
