MARY E. BURKETT
STOYSTOWN, Pa. - Mary E. Burkett, 82, of Berlin, formerly of Stoystown R.D. 2, (Wilbur), died Dec. 21, 1997, in Brothersvalley Township at the residence of her former daughter-in-law, JoAnn Burkett.
She was born Feb. 16, 1915, in Fairhope, Pa., she was the daughter of John and Lottie F. (Purdue) Redhead. She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, John C.; sisters, Florence Long, Elma Smith, and Dorothy Huff; and brothers George and Melvin Redhead.
She is survived by sons Richard and Don, both of Wilbur; granddaughter, Barbara, married to Phil Hautz; great-granddaughters, Brittany and Victoria Hautz, all of Stoystown. She was the sister of Hazel Reckley, and Arthur and John Redhead, all of Cumberland.
She was retired from the Somerset Pajama Factory. She attended the Otterbein United Methodist Church, Wilbur.
Family will receive friends from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. Tuesday at Deaner Funeral Home, Stoystown, Pa., where services will be held at 11 a.m. Wednesday with the Rev. Robert G. Doyle officiating. Interment will be in Otterbein Cemetery.

WILLIAM V. BURKETT
CANTON, Ohio - William V. Burkett, 65, of Canton, formerly of Frostburg, died Sunday, May 11, 1997, at his home following an extended illness.
Born Sept. 4, 1931, in Frostburg, Md., he was the son of the late William Carl and Ethel (Long) Burkett.
He also was preceded in death by three brothers.
Mr. Burkett had been a resident of Canton since 1941. He was a retired employee of Aultman Hospital, retiring in 1993 after 20 years of service. He attended St. Joseph's Catholic Church. Mr. Burkett was a U.S. Army veteran having served in the Korean Conflict.
Surviving are his wife, Margaret A. (Hotchkiss) Burkett, to whom he was married for 41 years; two daughters, Carla A. Gram and husband Jeffrey, Canton, and Rose M. Rennie and husband Kenneth, Carrollton; two sisters, Ruth Alexander, Canton, and Shirley Piccari, Canton; and three grandchildren, Donald, Alan, and Alex.
Friends will be received at the Reed Funeral Home, 705 Raff Road SW, Canton, on Tuesday from 7 to 9 p.m.
Services will be conducted at the funeral home on Wednesday at 1 p.m. with Father Frank A. Carfagna officiating.
Interment will be in Sunset Hills.
REV. ALBERT R. BURKHARDT
BALTIMORE - Rev. Albert Ray Burkhardt, 69, of Baltimore, founding pastor of Christ Lutheran Church, LaVale, died Sunday, Aug. 31, 1997, of brain cancer at his home.
From 1963 to 1973, Rev. Burkhardt was the mission developer and first pastor of Christ Lutheran Church, Vocke Road, LaVale. He also served as chaplain of the LaVale Volunteer Fire Company.
During his 41 years in the ministry, Rev. Burkhardt served five other Lutheran churches, Luther Place Memorial Church, Washington, D.C., Trinity Lutheran Church, Baltimore, Zion Lutheran Church, Middletown, First Lutheran Church, Ellicott City and Reformation Lutheran Church, Baltimore. He retired in 1993 from the Delaware-Maryland Synod of the Evangelical Lutheran Church in America.
From 1984 to 1987, Rev. Burkhardt was the Secretary of the Maryland Synod, an appointed position with responsibilities for Lutheran churches throughout the state, Delaware and the District of Columbia.
Rev. Burkhardt was born in 1928 in Baltimore. He graduated from Baltimore City College in 1946; received his bachelor's degree from Gettsburg College in 1949 and graduated three years later from the Lutheran Theological Seminary in Gettysburg.
He is survived by his wife of 45 years, the former Eleanor Weibley; two sons, Mark Burkhardt, Hoffman Estates, Ill., and Brent Burkhardt, Baltimore; and three grandchildren.
Friends will be received at the Mitchell-Wiedefeld Funeral Home, 6500 York Road, Baltimore, on Wednesday from 3 to 5 and 7 to 9 p.m.
Services will be held for Rev. Burkhardt at Reformation Lutheran Church, 6200 Lock Raven Boulevard, Baltimore, on Thursday at 11 a.m. with the Rev. Mark Huffman and Bishop George Mocko officiating. The family will receive friends for one hour prior to the service.

VIOLET D. BURKHART
RIDGELEY, W.Va. - Violet D. Burkhart, 81, formerly of Ridgeley, died Sunday, Sept. 21, 1997, at the Westminster Nursing and Convalescent Center, Westminster.
Born Oct. 6, 1915, in Pennsylvania, she was the daughter of the late Harry and Sarah (Bishop) Deneen.
She also was preceded in death by her husband, Charles Wesley Burkhart, Sr., and his son, Charles Wesley Burkhart, Jr.
Mrs. Burkhart was retired from the Celanese Corporation with 35 years' service.
She had been a member of the Women of the Moose, Chapter 914.
Survivors include Mr. Burkhart's children, Jean Marie Hawse, Westminster, and Wesley Howard Burkhart, Fullerton, Calif.; four grandchildren; and five great-grandchildren.
Friends will be received at the George-Upchurch Funeral Home on Thursday from noon until 2 p.m.
The funeral service will follow at 2 p.m. with the Rev. Benny Brakeall officiating.
Interment will be in Hillcrest Burial Park.
JACK L. BURNER
FROSTBURG - Jack L. Burner Sr., 63, of 221 W. First St., Frostburg, died Monday, June 16, 1997, at Sacred Heart Hospital.
Born March 26, 1934, in Klondike, he was the son of the late Alvin and Emma Burner, and the adopted son of William and Rose Cunningham.
He also was preceded in death by two sisters, Ethel Bruce and Evelyn Grecco; father-in-law, Hubert McKenzie; and sister-in-law, Catherine Twigg.
Jack was employed by Kelly Springfield Tire Co. for 35 years, and at Frostburg State University Dining Services for five years.
Well-known for his civic contributions in the community, Burner was honored while working for Kelly Springfield in 1979 with the National Spirit Award, and in 1988 Governor Schaefer awarded him with the Maryland's "Most Beautiful People Award." He also received the Community Service Award for the City of Frostburg in 1984.
Jack concerned himself with several community organizations including the Lions, the Elks, the Eagles, and the Jaycees where he chaired and worked on committees such as the eye donor program, Defensive Driver Program, Heart Fund Drive, Bicycle Safety, Flag Pole and Flag projects, Smoke Detectors for Aged Program, Drug Abuse Programs, and Community Sign Committee.
He initiated many projects and chaired projects like Band Uniforms Telethon, Clean Up Percy Cemetery, Lions Park, and B String Baseball. He served as president of the Twilight Baseball League; was a former basketball official, baseball umpire and soccer official; played baseball with Midland American Legion, Keysers Ridge, Klondike and Zihlman; and coached Klondike Church League Team for five years.
Burner will always be remembered for the many parades held in Frostburg, and for his years of work with the Frostburg Jaycees.
In another area of civic life, he was appointed to the Republican State Central Committee and then elected to a four-year term.
A kind man, loving husband and gentle father, Jack married Mary Agnes Burner, and together they raised three children: two sons, Jack L. Burner Jr., and Ronald W. Burner and wife Brenda; and one daughter, Cathy Marie and special friend Pat Logsdon and son Jonathan.
He also was a wonderful, fun-loving grandfather to Jackie III, Amy Lynn, and twins Matthew and Megan Burner, who will live on in their hearts forever.
He also is survived by one sister, Shirley Burner, Hagerstown.
Mr. Burner donated his body to medical science. A memorial service will be conducted Friday, June 20, at 4 p.m. at St. Michael's Church by Father Ed Hendricks.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made to the American Cancer Society.
FRANCIS C. BURNS
MIDLAND - Francis Cyril Burns, 72, of Midland, died Wednesday, March 19, 1997, at Sacred Heart Hospital, Cumberland.
Born April 6, 1924, in Midland, he was a son of the late Francis P. Burns and Loretta (Monahan) Burns.
He also was preceded in death by one sister, Mary Colleen Buckley.
Mr. Burns was a former employee of the State of Maryland Department of Highways, working on a survey crew for eight years. He retired from Kelly-Springfield Tire Co., where he worked from 1963 to 1987. He also served as bailiff at the Allegany County Court House for six years.
He was a member of St. Joseph's Catholic Church, Midland, and the Holy Name Society, and received the Archdiocesan Medal of Honor in 1993. He was a graduate of LaSalle High School; a U.S. Army veteran of World War II; and member of John Devlin Post 169 American Legion, Midland.
Surviving are his wife of 49 years, Rita (Bradley) Burns; daughter, Mary Rita McKinley and husband Bill, Midland; granddaughter, Molly, University of Maryland, Baltimore; grandson, Michael, at home; two nephews, Edmond Buckley and wife Melinda, Forest Park, Ill., and Francis Buckley and wife Holly, Ellicott City; and three great-nieces, Katie, Ailey and Maggie Buckley.
Friends will be received at the Eichhorn-McKenzie Funeral Home, Lonaconing, on Thursday from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m.
Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at St. Joseph's Catholic Church, Midland, on Friday at 10 a.m. with Father Ed Hedricks as celebrant.
A Christian Wake Service will be conducted at the funeral home on Thursday at 7:30 p.m. by Sr. Joan Maenner, O.S.F., Pastoral Life Director at St. Joseph's Church.
Interment will be in St. Joseph's Cemetery, Midland.

FRANCIS O. BURNS
MONTICELLO, Ind. - Francis O. ``Red'' Burns, 76, of 611 Washington St., Monticello, died Friday, April 4, 1997, at his residence.
He was the father of Mrs. Ronald (Beverly A.) McMurray, of Cumberland, Md. Also surviving are five other children; two brothers; four sisters; 16 grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren. Visitation will be held at the Voorhis-Draper Funeral Home, 202 S. Illinois St., Monticello, on Sunday from 4 to 8 p.m. Rosary service will be at 8 p.m.
The funeral will be held at Our Lady of the Lakes Catholic Church on Monday, April 7, 1997, at 10:30 a.m. with the Rev. James Goodrum, the Rev. Robert Fosselman and the Rev. Richard Puetz officiating.
Burial will be in the Riverview IOOF Cemetery, Monticello.
ROBERT C. BURTON SR.
FROSTBURG - Robert Clinton Burton Sr., 72, of 323 E. Main St., Frostburg, died Thursday, March 6, 1997, at Sacred Heart Hospital, Cumberland.
Born Jan. 8, 1925, in Portsmouth, Va., he was the son of the late George W. and Ruth (Vannah) Burton.
Mr. Burton was an economics professor at Frostburg State University, where he taught since 1976. He was a U.S. Army veteran of World War II. He received both his bachelor's and master's degrees from the Virginia Polytechnical Institute and his Ph.D. from the University of Virginia. His teaching career started at Old Dominion University of Virginia. He then taught at the University of Richmond and the Norfolk Division of William and Mary. He then taught at the Tidewater Community College, where he became Dean of Instruction and Student Services. At Frostburg State University he served as Chairman of the Economics Department for 11 years, and formerly served as Service Director of the Center for Economic Education of Western Maryland.
Surviving are his wife of 44 years, Sarah (Gordner) Burton; two sons, Robert C. Burton Jr. and wife Jean, Phoenix, Ariz., and Richard V. Burton and wife Susan, Portsmouth; one daughter, Marcia Anne Burton, Washington, D.C.; one brother, George T. Burton, Snyder, Texas; three sisters, Barbara Florie, Jacksonville, N.C., Stella B. Williamson, Chesapeake, Va., and Elizabeth A. Dail, Portsmouth; two grandchildren, Rebecca Elaine Burton and Emily Brook Burton, both of Phoenix; and numerous nieces and nephews.
Friends will be received at the Durst Funeral Home, Frostburg, on Friday from 1 to 4 p.m.
Funeral services will be held at the Riverdale United Methodist Church, New Bern, N.C., on Sunday, March 9, at 2 p.m., with the Rev. Neil Slater officiating. Arrangements will be under the direction of the Cotton Funeral Home, New Bern.
Interment will be in the Conner Family Cemetery, New Bern.
A memorial service will be held at Frostburg State University, Cook Chapel, on Tuesday, March 11, at 10 a.m.

DOROTHY M. BUXENSTEIN
CUMBERLAND - Dorothy M. Buxenstein, 80, of Cumberland, died Tuesday, Oct. 28, 1997, at Memorial Hospital.
Born April 14, 1917, in Baltimore, she was the daughter of the late Charles and Anna (Klima) Hartman. She also was preceded in death by her husband, Charles T. Buxenstein, 1971; one sister, Albina Amanda Bradley; one daughter, Dorothy M. Dury; one niece, Lillian Anders; and a son-in-law, Loring A. Smith Jr.
Mrs. Buxenstein was a homemaker. She was of the Protestant faith.
Surviving are three sons, August R. Robinson and wife Wilma, Augusta, W.Va., Charles E. Robinson, Easton, and Ralph N. Buxenstein and wife Linda, Rawlings; two daughters, Irene H. Frazier and husband Leroy, Falling Waters, W.Va., and Constance J.C. Smith, Hopewell, Va.; numerous grandchildren; numerous great-grandchildren; two great-great-grandchildren; one step-granddaughter; and two step-great-grandchildren.
Friends wil be received at the Scarpelli Funeral Home, 108 Virginia Ave., Cumberland, on Wednesday from 3 to 5 and 7 to 9 p.m.
