ALTA L. BROADWATER
GRANTSVILLE - Alta Lucretia Broadwater, 91, of 2262 Jennings Road, Grantsville, died Monday, Nov. 17, 1997, at the home of Dan and Anna Yoder, Accident.
Born May 26, 1906, at Bittinger, she was a daughter of the late Christian and Annie (Beitzel) Orendorf.
She also was preceded in death by her husband, Lee Broadwater.
Mrs. Broadwater was a member of Glade Mennonite Church, the Choir, and the Ladies Group.
She is survived by a step-daughter, Lena Broadwater, Bloomington; a sister, Mary Miller, Grantsville; one step-grandchild; and two step-great-grandchildren.
Friends will be received at the Newman Funeral Home, Grantsville, on Wednesday from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. Services will be conducted in the funeral home on Thursday at 1 p.m. with the Rev. Earl Yoder officiating. Interment will be in the Glade Cemetery.
CLIFTON J. BROADWATER
LONACONING - Clifton Jerome "Nary" Broadwater, 86, formerly of 3 Dudley St., Lonaconing, died Sunday, June 29, 1997, at the Egle Nursing Home, where he had been a patient for two years.
Born May 26, 1911, in Bond, he was the son of the late J. Nelson Broadwater and the late Virginia (Broadwater) Broadwater.
He also was preceded in death by his wife, Helen (Reiber) Dillon Broadwater, on March 10, 1993; and three sisters, Flossie L. Durst, Gertrude Broadwater and Ethel Stark; and two brothers, Elmer and Reuben.
Mr. Broadwater was employed in the spinning department of the Celanese Corp. for 44 years.
He was a U.S. Army veteran of World War II. He was a 1929 graduate of Barton High School.
He was a member of First United Methodist Church, Lonaconing, and the Methodist Adult Fellowship; Barton American Legion Post 189; and Barton and Lonaconing senior citizens.
Surviving are his stepdaughter, Sandra D. Grandstaff and husband Richard W., Lonaconing; granddaughter, Amy Sue Welch and husband Michael, Delaware, Ohio; great-grandchildren, Ryan, Audrey and Anna Welch; and numerous nieces and nephews.
Friends will be received at the Eichhorn-McKenzie Funeral Home, Lonaconing, on Monday from 7 to 9 p.m., and Tuesday from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m.
Services will be conducted at the funeral home on Wednesday at 2 p.m. with the Rev. Richard Mortimore officiating.
Interment will be in the Laurel Hill Cemetery, Moscow Mills.
Barton American Legion Post 189 will hold a memorial service at the funeral home on Monday at 7:15 p.m.

DON L. BROADWATER
FROSTBURG - Don Luke Broadwater Sr., 67, of Frostburg, died Thursday, April 17, 1997, at Sacred Heart Hospital.
Born Sept. 14, 1929, at Cumberland, he was the son of the late Raymond and Laura (Stephens) Broadwater.
Mr. Broadwater was a heavy equipment operator with Operating Engineers Local 37. He was of the Methodist faith. He was a U.S. Marine Corps veteran of the Korean conflict. He was also a 34 year member of American Legion Farrady Post 24, Frostburg, and the Mount Savage Veterans of Foreign Wars.
Surviving are his wife, Helen Virginia (Richards) Broadwater; two sons, Don Luke Broadwater Jr. and wife Judy, Frostburg, Robert Raymond Broadwater and wife Marlene, Mount Savage; two daughters, Carol Ann Wratchford and husband Richard, Cumberland, Alana Jean Hamilton and fiancee, John Michael, Frostburg; a brother, Wayne Broadwater and wife Lois, Manassas, Va.; four sisters, Melva Isella and husband, Carmen, Street, Rella Albright and daughter Ellen, Cumberland, Evelyn Ringler, Salisbury, Pa., and Norma Petenbrink and husband Ronald, Salisbury, Pa.; four grandchildren, Lori Zufall and husband Wes, Brenda Cannon and husband George, Robert Broadwater Jr., and Eric Broadwater; one step-granddaughter, Pamela Miller, one great-grandson, Brett Cannon and one step-great-grandson, Logan Wiland.
Friends will be received at the Newman Funeral Home, Grantsville, on Friday 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m.
Services will be conducted at the funeral home on Saturday at 2 p.m. with the Rev. Garry Kipe officiating.
Interment will be in the New Germany Methodist Cemetery.

JOSEPHINE BRODE
ECKHART - Josephine Brode, 90, of 10216 Parkersburg Road NW, Eckhart, died Saturday, June 14, 1997, at Sacred Heart Hospital.
Born April 14, 1907 in Towanda, Pa., she was the daughter of the late Jacob and Helen (Young) Laurie. She also was preceded in death by her husband, Raymond Brode Sr.; and five children, Mildred, Betty, Helen, William, and Raymond Jr.
Mrs. Brode was a retired seamstress for the Michael Berkowitz Shirt Factory.
Surviving are one son, Robert L. Brode and wife Mary; one daughter, Norma Baer and husband Harold (Grizz), all of Eckhart; two sisters, Elizabeth Festerman, Frostburg, and Margaret Villa, Eckhart; six grandchildren; nine great-grandchildren; and numerous nieces and nephews.
Friends will be received at the Durst Funeral Home, Frostburg, on Monday from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m.
Services will be conducted at the funeral home on Tuesday, June 17, 1997, at 11 a.m. officiated by R. William Brode, grandson, and Bishop Steve Whited.
Interment will be in Frostburg Memorial Park.
Pallbearers will be grandsons, Robert S. Brode, R. William Brode, Jack E. Brode, Wayne Brode, Raymond Brode III, and Dean Wiland.
MARTHA M. BROOKHART
OAKLAND - Martha M. "Pat" Brookhart, 93, of Oakland, died on Tuesday at her home.
Born Oct. 23, 1903, in Grantsville, she was a daughter of the late Ralph Engle and Etta (Layman) Engle.
Mrs. Brookhart was a retired schoolteacher and social worker. She was a member of St. Paul's United Methodist Church, a past member of the Oakland Civic Club, former Cub Scout den mother, and a former girl scout leader.
Surviving are her husband, Maurice S. Brookhart; one son, Maurice S. Brookhart, III, Chapel Hill, N.C.; and two grandchildren.
Friends may call at the Durst Funeral Home, Oakland, on Thursday from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. Services will be conducted at the funeral home on Friday at 11 a.m. with the Rev. Roger Harrison officiating.
Interment will be in Garrett County Memorial Gardens.

CHARLES E. BROOKLEY
FROSTBURG - Charles Edward Brookley, 65, of Frostburg, died Monday, Feb. 17, 1997, at Memorial Hospital, Cumberland.
Born on March 31, 1931, in LaVale, he was the son of the late Conrad E. and Ethel D. (Timbrook) Brookley. He also was preceded in death by a sister, Eunice Reb.
Mr. Brookley was a graduate of a very close Fort Hill High School class of 1949, a graduate of the University of Maryland in 1953, and an officer in the U.S. Air Force. He served during the Korean conflict. He was an active member of the Nemacolin Chapter of Trout Unlimited. He retired as owner of Thermogage, Inc.
Surviving are his wife, Mary Lou (Sanner) Brookley; a son, Craig L. Brookley, Frostburg; and a sister, Patricia J. Richards, Carlos.
Friends will be received in the Hafer Chapel of the Hills Mortuary, 1302 National Highway, LaVale, on Thursday from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m.
Funeral services will be conducted in the funeral home chapel on Friday at 11 a.m. with the Rev. Daren L. Ritchey officiating.
Interment will follow in Hillcrest Burial Park.
CHARLES M. BROOKS SR.
CUMBERLAND- Charles Mower Brooks Sr., 61, of 12822 Bedford Road NE, Cumberland, died Tuesday, Feb. 18, 1997, at the University of Pittsburgh Medical Center, Pittsburgh.
Born July 7, 1935, in Cumberland, he was the son of the late Clifton H. and Irene O. (Mower) Brooks. He also was preceded in death by a brother, Ray Brooks.
Mr. Brooks retired from Local 1024, Carpenters Union. He was a member of Potomac Lodge 100 AF&AM; Cumberland Scottish Rite Bodies; Ali Ghan Temple; Hagerstown Shrine; Ali Ghan Motor Corps, of which he was past president; Tall Cedars; Member of Directors Staff; Cumberland Elks Lodge 63; Frostburg Moose Lodge 348; Westernport American Legion Victory Post 155; and Melvin United Methodist Church, where he was instrumental in the building fund. He built the concession stands at Greenway Stadium. He was past president of the Fort Hill Band Parents, and the Parents Association, Inc.
Surviving are his wife, Virginia "Ginny" (Shapley) Brooks; one daughter, Tamela "Tammy" Chucci, Cresaptown; two sons, Charles M. Brooks Jr. and wife Jill, Cumberland Valley, Pa., and Glenn A. Brooks and wife Monica, Cumberland; stepmother, Annie Brooks, Baltimore; six grandchildren, Chad and Logan Brooks, Corey, Michael and Kristin Chucci, and Shelai ``Nikki'' Clark; three brothers, Clifton, William and Michael Brooks, all of Baltimore; two stepsisters, Janice Burhaus, Baltimore, and Barbara Lawer, Bel Air; a very special sister-in-law and brother-in-law, Ralph and Marilyn Wratchford, Cumberland; and many nieces and nephews. Friends will be received at the Merritt-Adams Funeral Home, 404 Decatur St., Cumberland, on Thursday from 7 to 9 p.m. and Friday from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m.
Funeral services will be at the Melvin United Methodist Church on Saturday at 11 a.m. with the Rev. F. Richard Leslie officiating.
Interment will be in Sunset Cemetery.
Pallbearers will be members of the Shrine Motor Corps, Edward Nave, Gary Pyles, Raymond Long, William Bowden, Gilbert Rice, William "Jim" Nave, Ronald Grabenstein, and Richard Walls.
A service will be held by Potomac Lodge 100 AF&AM at the funeral home on Friday at 7:30 p.m.

CHARLOTTE F. BROOKS
LUKE - Charlotte F. Brooks, 83, formerly of Luke, died Sunday, Aug. 24, 1997, at Moran Manor Nursing Home, Westernport.
Born Jan. 16, 1914, in Lonaconing, she was the daughter of the late Hubert Worgan and Isabella (Nelson) Worgan. She also was preceded in death by three sisters and five brothers.
She was a former member of the Trinity United Methodist Church, Piedmont, W.Va.
She had worked for Westvaco and the U.S. Postal Service, Luke.
Surviving is one sister, Mrs. Isabella N. Villano, Piedmont; and several nieces and nephews.
Friends will be received at the Fredlock Funeral Home, Piedmont, on Tuesday from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m.
Services will be held at the funeral home on Wednesday at 1 p.m. with the Rev. S.D. Sawyers officiating.
Interment will be in Philos Cemetery, Westernport.
